My husband and I decided to move to Jacksonville from Philadelphia but are in that catch-22. My job is transportable anywhere in the country because I work at home; he would need to find a job and we would need to find an apartment. But obviously most places want you to live down there before they give you a job and most apartments want you to hve a job down there first.
What can we do? Where do we start? Is staying at an Extended Stay-type place our only option? :bag:
Thanks mamas

You could possibly get an apartment while you're still in Philly (assuming that you can do some travelling ahead of time). That way you can put your husband's income down for proof of income. You may also be able to show proof of income through a bank statement if you have some money saved up.
I know that some people get a job before hand. They travel to go to interviews and when a job is secured, they move. Not all jobs require you to start immediately.
If you make a regular income through your home-based business, you may qualify for an apartment with your income only.
Just a few thoughts for you. I would also try and contact a few apartment complexes in Jacksonville or a real estate agency who also does rental property.
When we moved to Oregon from MN last year we basically just took off. We had a few options in mind (neither turned out to be great), but I so wish we had had an apartment set up ahead of time. If we move again, I'll make sure we have enough money saved up to afford going to our destination before moving there, to set things up.
Good luck.

This is really late to be responding to. But if anyone else is in this situation, just have some extra money saved up. Usually if you can pay a couple of months rent in advanced, the don't give a fig about whether or not your employeed at that exact moment. It's like good faith money or something. It's worked for us at many apartments in many spots in the country. Good luck. :)
