I just figured I'd ask if there was an understanding pediatrician in Suffolk County somewhere. We've decided not to vaccinate anymore. Our ped. has been very good about our delaying/ refusing vaxes but he has no "bedside manner" at all. There are some other things about him and his office that I'm not thrilled with. Am I asking too much? I don't know. Please let me know if such a creature exists on this island we call long:D Jeannine

Jeannine,
I wish I had an answer for you, because we are still looking for a pediatrician. If I find anyone, I'll let you know.

Dear Celestial,
Thank you so much for the name. I'll call him tomorrow. I don't mind using a family practitioner. Growing up, we all went to one. And when Jared was born, we went to a nurse practitioner, who specialized in family medicine.
Thanks, and have a wonderful holiday season!

Hi,
I hope you've found a great PED already. In case you haven't here is another: Alexander Tocher in Miller Place. While I am unsure as to his stance on vaxing (I used to be a full vaxer, but a LAZY delaying one!) he was ok when I would miss them for quite a long time. He is extremely encouraging and supportive of natural parenting. I was so sad when we moved away and I *still* miss him after 5 years.

HI -- we use Dr. Lee Kurfist in Huntington. I am very pleased with him... we have delayed my child's vaccinations, and he is fine with that. He's also fine with not vaccinating at all.
Hope that helps.
Smiles,
Brenda :-)

I'm a little late coming to this thread, but I have to throw my 2 cents in.
I saw Kate Whiteman @ Stony Brook Family Practice (Family Medicine?) in East Setauket. She's wonderful regarding parents choice, advocates that you actively participate in your child's health care decsions... Even asked me about weaning (her own child) when I had my consult visit with her when I was preggo with Gabriel.
It was such a wonderful change to find a dr that actually talked TO ME, rather than down to me re: my choices for myself and my childrens' health.
It's a family practice so it's one stop shopping for the whole family :)

Hello
I appreciate the previously posted info on pediatricians and will consider them.
Does anyone know of a pediatrician in Suffolk, NY that is attachment parenting friendly? We have a pediatrician...but I feel she has more of the the typical American detachment-parenting approach.
Thanks much!
Mary
