Alianmama-I live in Citrus Heights, about 6 or so miles from Roseville, very close to Fair Oaks. My ds is 7, currently Waldorf schooled, but very soon to be home schooled. I know there are a lot of local mamas around, keep posting!

I'm a little further- Rancho Cordova, but maybe the three of us can plan to meet at a park soon? (somewhere in between all of us)

Hi, I'm new to this area and to this discussion board...this is my very first posting (I hope I'm doing it right!). I just moved to Nevada City and am trying to meet other moms in the area. I have an 11-month old who LOVES playing with other kids. Any other mommas with little ones in these Nevada City/Grass Valley parts?

Hi! I work in Penn Valley, a 10 minute drive from Nevada City. My boys are 9 & 15, so not little enough to play with yours. But I am a Mothering mama! So feel free to chat w/me!

We are thinking of moving somewhere near there-Auburn maybe....Any thoughts? My kids are 8, 5, and 2 1/2; the oldest is homeschooled, the middle goes to PS; the youngest bf's, has food allergies, and sleeps in my bed; I am pagan; dh drives race cars; we both want land and trees near water and not too far from grocery/shopping; farmer's markets, natural food stores, and healthcare providers that are pro alternative care are a must. Will we fit anywhere??? I'm so tired of being the only earth-conscious AP parent I know, but when we lived in Santa Cruz, my dh was the one who didn't fit with his love for cars-anything old, loud, or meant for racing.
Anyway, we are searching for the right place for us to settle where we can hopefully build our own house and live comfortably and feel at home both at home and in the community. That shouldn't be too much to ask, KWIM?
Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated!

The Auburn, Colfax, Grass Valley/Nevada City areas are all good places for what you are describing you want. GV & NC are possibly less good as far as racing, but otherwise there's a funky mixture of tree-hugger hippy nature-lovers & car/truck-lovin' hicks, so your dh will find his place.
Good luck!

Thank you! I think we will at least look into it some more and see what we think. I'm not sure if I could stand being more than 30 minutes from the ocean though....Well, I guess I can't have everything.

I now have, in addition to my boys 9 & 15, two little girls, 2 & 3. My sister's babes; she's very ill and unable to parent them right now, so I'm picking them up this weekend. Boy am I out of practice with little one's! And girls! Wow!
I live in Gold Run, which is about 15 minutes up I80 past Colfax. My life is crazy hectic but would love to get together w/Mothering mom's here & there.

sounds good! I teach full time in the Grass Valley area, but some days when I don't have a meeting I leave a bit early to have some fun kid time...Normally I don't leave until 4 or later, don't get kids 'till 4:40 or 5 or 5:30 (oh it sucks being single mama having to work, I tell ya). Some days I can leave before 3 & get home around 3:30 or 4...could meet in Colfax for a walk & meal, or other ideas? Drive another 15 min & there's my mountain home...

Hello! Hello!
It's been soooo long since I've been here (or online for more than 5 minutes at a time) and what do I find but Mothering Mamas in my neck of the woods! :banana
Ok, so to introduce myself a bit.... I use to be a reg. before the boards went down (a while ago) then things just got lots more busy and I just kinda quit coming except when I just couldn't get to sleep in the middle of the night and then I just mostly read(lurked :) ) I have a DD that just turned 3 this month and we live in Sheridan, 'bout 7 miles out of Lincoln on 65.
We're currently in a playgroup that meets every Mon. Would love to hook up with some more Mothering Moms in the area.

I woul love to get together. Things are busy with Thanksgiving. Maybe after? Where does your play group meet? Would they be interested in another kid? DS just gave up and fell asleep. Going to go to bed before he wakes up. I hope dh and ds#1 aren't hogging the bed. :)

Sorry for not responding sooner. It has been busy. It's nice to have a moment to just sit. :)
I was thinking that maybe after the first of the year would be a good time to meet up. Right now it's crazy out there.
My DD's a calling. She just woke up and she's wanting to nurse. :)

Hi Sarah! I am on this thread too--I've been told that there is crunchiness there . I've visited and did like what I saw but it's hard to tell from a short visit what the people are like, you know? It was very pretty in many places and if you don't mind a little driving, it's only like 30 miles (I think that's about right-correct me if I'm wrong) from Sacramento which has probably any kind of store, function, group, gathering you could want.

This looks like an old thread, but I thought I'd reply and see if there is any fresh interest. I'm Whitney and we live in the Newcastle/Auburn area. Our girls go one of the local Montessori schools and our youngest is 15 months old. Any Auburn area mama's looking for a get together? Maybe at one of the ARD parks?

I see that nobody has posted here in awhile, but I thought I'd give it a try incase some of you still subscribe.
We live in Rocklin, and are TTC our first. DH is definately more mainistream, but fairly openminded about a natural birth. I would like a homebirth, but would also be interested in any progressive alternative doctors in the area incase we end up needing to have a hospital birth, etc.
So di any of you have suggestions for midwives or doctors in the Roseville, Rocklin, Auburn area? Even Sac isn't too far to go is the person is good and open to family bed, selective vac, etc.
Thanks!
Hi,
My name is Desiree and I have 6 kids, ages 2-17. I'm new here and also live in Rocklin. I'm a doula and have had 6 homebirths. I'm in a study group right now run by a midwife named Kaleem. She and the other midwife Marlene are in Citrus Heights. I haven't known her for very long, but is someone I would consider if I were looking for a midwife. I'd be glad to help you in your journey, especially since we live in the same town. You can e-mail me at sk8termum@yahoo.com if you want.
I'm also wondering if there's anyone else in this area that would like to get to know each other. It's hard finding people with alternative ideas.

Hi,everyone! I live in Citrus Heights right now but we just had our offer accepted on a house in Foresthill which is 17 miles past Auburn. As a matter of fact, I'm on my way out the door to sign the paperwork! :) I'd love to get to know some of you that are in the foothills. I'll be leaving all my awesome friends and family behind and I'm already feeling kinda lonely about it. :(

Hi there! I am in the Folsom area and had the MWs mentioned above (Kaleem and Marlene) at my last homebirth. They were FANTASTIC and I cannot recommend them enough.
I'd love to find some other mommies in the area to get together for playgroups ( I have a 2 year old and a 5 month old - both boys)

Hoping to bump this up, and find some NorCal contacts, I'm moving to Auburn in June and I'm due to deliver a healthy baby girl about a month after. Friends and playdate partners (although she'll be little for a while, I might need a playdate to unwind!) are most welcome. Love this community, glad I found it before I moved and before baby was born!

Hi,
I've had my 3 boys with Marlene and Kaleem. Always looking for new friends. I live in Lincoln. Email me any time

Mommy to 3 super cute boys - 7 years, 5 years and 6 mo.
We will be visiting family in Roseville and in Cool from July 20th to August 1st. DH will be working part of the time in Rocklin, and will also be gone guiding rafting trips on the South Fork, so I will be looking for some company for myself and my 3 kiddos: DD almost 6, DS 1 1/2, DS 4 months. I will have transportation part of the time, but sometimes DH will need to take our van to work. Anyone in those areas want to get together?

We should meet up sometime! I'm in Lincoln too. Marlene and Kaleem just left my house about an hour ago for my one week pp visit. Small world.... Maybe we could meet at one of the parks around here one day. My oldest is the same age (well, almost) as your middle son. PM me if you're interested! :)

It's funny you're on here because I was just thinking of you the other day! I'm cloth diapering my new baby and always think of that time at the mall when you told us you used CD's for Sebastain. Anyway...pm me!

Bumping this... I'm in desperate need of toddlers for my 20 mth old DS to play with. We live with my parents and the house isn't big, but they're in the country and I am more than willing to have people over, as long as it's not a big crowd. Anyone interested in Thursday mornings??? I'll pm a bunch of those in the Auburn area as well. We are on Dry Creek Rd...
DS is incredibly talkative and loves to be near other kids but rarely gets the chance. DH is a student and SAHD while I am currently working part-time, trying to pick up another job or full-time work to help us earn money while we live with my parents.
So, anyone interested? I'm ready to start this next Thursday, even if I can only find one other mom to do it. If interested, answere here or please pm me.

Hey guys! I'm new to this forum, and am happy it was recommended to me. I like outside Lake of the Pines (Auburn) in the Ranchos, and have been living up here for more than four years now. I'm due with my first in January 2008. Any other pregs out there? Would love to chat with some locals!
We're doing the hospital birth, but hoping for as little intervention as possible. We're still researching the vax thing, though probably leaning towards anti-vax. No circ for our li'l boy. And we're vegetarian. Holy moly! :flipped

hi, I have 3 boys who are 3, 5, and 7. We learn at home and use a charter school in Grass Valley called Twin Ridges. I work at home as a cloth diaper, carrier, and wool clothing making mama. My Passions are birth support ( if anyone needs a doula) and Blessing Ways. I live in Cool about 15 min from Auburn and we all should plan a big gathering sometime.
We have a great group of women who get together now and then and support one another http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ROMP_families/
You should all join in and then we can get something cooking.
I am also looking for birth stories for my website if you are interested in talking with me.

In regards to the La Leche League meeting in Auburn, it actually meets on Thursdays and because of the holidays, it will be this Thursday instead of next week. It's a wonderful group and new members are always welcome. We do still meet at the church.
Also, I'm still looking for toddlers and their mamas to come to my house for a play-date/mama meet. Email me at winchesterruger@yahoo.com if you're interested and I'll invite you to our ap playgroup yahoo group that has only like five members so far. DS needs some little buddies!!!

Hi everyone- I am very excited to be moving to Nevada county within the next 2 weeks! We have always wanted to live there, and now we're finally getting to guts to just get up and move (from the Sacramento area). My membership is pending at the Monkey Business Yahoo group, cant wait to make some connections with like-minded parents.
Quick question- I am going to be working outside of home part-time and am looking for some part-time childcare (AP and cloth-diapering friendly) for my two little guys. Can anyone make some recommendations? Thanks so much.
