I have been researching different kindergartens for dd to attend when
she turns 3 next year (where DID the time go?) and have looked into
a couple of state run schools as well as the German-French kindergarten
here in Stuttgart (dh is French and we speak French at home). However,
all of the kindergartens seem to make a big deal out of having certification
from a doctor that the vaccines are up to date. What do they do if
a child DOESN'T have vaccines up to date? Refuse to let that child into
kindergarten? What happened to the guarantee that every child at the age
of 3 was guaranteed a place in kindergarten?
Does a German kindergarten have the right to refuse a child a place because of
a lack of vaccines?

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of this topic? Any good
info links around?

Thanks!

Hollycrand,
my dd's both do not have complete vaccinations. Sarah went to a church kindie, Rhea goes to Waldorf. They both required, and I think that is a State requirement, a doctor's signature that the kid is ready for Kindie. That one is done by your ped, and mine doesn't even require me to go in for a checkup. They also want a copy of the last Untersuchung, whichever number that was I don't remember but can look it up. That's from the yellow booklet that you are given at birth.

Vaccinations are a funny issue here. They kind of push them, but as far as I know they are not required to attend any institution. I did not have to prove that my dd's had them although it was stated in the paperwork that kids should have them, it was kind of weird.
Even when Sarah started school we had to show her records, but that was that.
I mean kids have the measles in most kindies, so they must not be vaccinated, right??

I have little time right now since we're all down with the flu. But PM me if you need more info.
