Ok so I have a pattern that someone sent me a long time ago, I have not had the time to make it. I do not however have the materials. Where should I go about getting them? Like the filler, can I use any kind or does it have to be wool? And what is a stockinette and where can I get one?
I would like to make one for each of my boys and one for myself. I also got some great patterns for Amish dolls that I would like to make as well.
Thanks for any info!

I don't have links but if you google, joy dolls, weir dolls, and magic cabin all sell what you need.
Wool is the easiest to work with and warms when your child hugs it, so it is nicer than polyester fill. But if poly is what you have, you can use it too. Stockinette is used in the first step of making a waldorf doll head. You stuff a tube of stockinette, tie strings to shape the head, then cover the whole thing with the skin fabric.
Does that help? There are tons of posts here to read, too, that will help with your questions.

Thanks that helps alot. The dolls will be more for looking at so I think I may use the poly fill for the first ones I make. If I can do a good job I plan to make one for my new niece/nephew and that I will use wool for as they may end up using it as a lovey. Thanks so much for your help
I always make my stockinettes out of some cheap cotton interlock knit I got a while back. I just sew about 2 inches wide and one foot long or so.
If you need to, you can do two layers of this.
You can also use old panty hose! (although I've never tried it) I imagine cotton tights would work much better then nylon?

Thanks for the tip! I am hoping to get this project going in the next few weeks, just trying to get all my ducks in a row and organize my craft area

If you want to make a lovey for a baby, I have a great pattern and instructions for the Magic Cabin "Starlight" doll. I made one for my cousin's baby. It's really sweet and soft, with a velour body, and you can put a jingle bell inside the cap (it's all sewn closed so it isn't a choking hazard). You're welcome to my pattern and booklet if you want it. Here's a link to the doll kit on another dollmaking site - it appears that Magic Cabin no longer sells this kit (too bad, because the Magic Cabin one is nicer):

A "stockinette" is a stretchy piece of fabric that looks like a little sock. You stuff it and tie strings around it in a certain way to shape the dolls head, and then the skin fabric goes over this. You could probably use a thin cotton toddler sock.
