Just wondering if and what kind (brand) of prenatal vitamins you use. I'm about to need some more and before buying my regular brand (natures storehouse) just wanted to know the scoop on food source organic prenatal vitamins out there.
Also for anyone who's been pg before, have you noticed a difference (mainly in bowel habits) with prenatals that have iron vs ones that don't?

I don't know much about vitamins since i'm just taking some walgreens brand..they do have iron and i do notice a bit of constipation in the beginning..been drinking a lot of water lately and that is helping with that

Yeah, constipation and iron. I'm looking for food source vitamins because my midwife last time told me that unless the bottle specifically says food source, it's probably synthetic and it is my belief that the body knows the differnence between something made by a chemical reaction in a lab and something that came from a living source.

I'm using the Thorne prenatals. I get them from my naturopath. I take one three times a day. They're more easily absorbed than many of the drugstore brands, which are so dense it's harder for the body to break them down and absorb the vitamins.

I'm taking Rainbow Light vitamins (the children's chewables because my stomach can't handle regular or prenatal ones)....They also make a multi-vitamin as well as a prenatal...I get mine from drugstore.com

I'm taking the Thorne as well. They're nice. I can't take those big pills. I only take two though, figuring I can't probably digest as much iron as they have in there!

I'd be interested in which vitamins come from food sources. Right now I am taking generic prenatals from the supermarket. I am probably going to need to switch though. With DD my prenatals made me sooo ill. I ended up not taking them at all and instead paid closer attention to what I was eating.

The Rainbow Light vitamins are food-based. Here's a blurb from their website....http://www.rainbowlight.com/products.html

it says all their vitamins are supposed to be easy on the stomach, too....

OK, so technically I am due Oct. 29th, but they say a lot of first time mamas are late, which would move me into Nov., so I'm going to join in :love

I am taking New Chapter prenatals. They are awesome! They are "whole food probiotic multi-vitamin, mineral, live active culture & herbal complexe". They are also 100% vegetarian and don't have vit.A, which is perfect for me. Being vegetarian, I get plenty of vitamin A in my diet and I don't need it supplemented especially because to much can be bad. They do have iron but it hasn't really bothered me.

We went to one of the best health food stores in town and looked at every prenatal label & these looked like the best for me.

I take my vitamins separately. I take a mineral complex and a B complex and ester C and vitamin E and folic acid. If I need iron, I take Floradix liquid iron +herbs. I make a point to take my iron and Ester C at the same time and separate from my mineral complex (which contains calcium). I take my vitamin E with the mineral complex and B vitamins and folic acid with breakfast. Then Ester C and iron at lunch and minerals again with dinner.

I love the Rainbow Light. Can you get them mail order in Canada? With both pregnancies I tried other prenatals and got terribly constipated, but not with the RL. They also make a powder for those who can't do pills, and a Good Mornings one for those with morning sickness.

Not preggo YET but as of 3/22, we are officially going to start TTC again which would at the earliest put me in the December 2005 board but anyway... :shy --- I've started my vitamins already per my NP's advice for folic acid and the B's -- we're hoping if I stock up on them my hyperemesis won't be so bad this time...cross your fingers! Anyway, she suggested 2 Flintstones a day since I had such a hard time keeping anything down -- but I don't dig the artificial stuff in them -- I found Lil Critters Gummy Vites -- now, you do have to take like 7 a day to get what you need but they ARE like candy so hey, I don't mind that! All natural coloring and flavors -- I don't think they're food-based though -- Sam's had a big bottle for under $10!

I am taking Trader Joe's Prenantal one-per-day. I haven't had problems with feeling yucky. My Naturopath said that Trader Joe vitamins were a high quality. I also need a one a day. I can only remember to take things before bed.
