oye!! chicken pox question.

how long after symptoms appear will chicken pox be cotagious? i am hoping if dd gets it (she was exposed at shcool) that it will be resolved by the time ds is born. i know incubation can be 7-21 days, but cant seem to figure out exactly when i would be outa the woods and could uncross my legs.

i have already had it, as has dh, so that's not a concern, just wanting to avoid exposing a newborn.

My son is just getting over the chicken pox. They are contagious about 2 days before they break out in spots and are no longer contagious when all the spots have scabbed and dried up. For him that took about 10 days once he started breaking out in spots. I think they may have even all been scabbed over a day or two ago. Hope that helps!

Even if your dd was contagious right after the baby is born, it will have your immunity to chicken pox. If you nurse, baby will have your immunities until being 9 months old. At least this is what I was told when ds was like 6 months old. He was exposed and I was terrified! If you have concerns, ask your pediatrian.
