hi bluebottle, and welcome to MDC!

for nausea i used reeds ginger brew and also the reeds ginger candies. you can find these usually at a health food store. whoever said you werent suposed to be nauseus yet was insane. i was sick right away! welcome to the world of real-life verses The Books :LOL

personally i would go for a stronger ginger rather than weak. i remember if i had too much water at once i would get really nauseaus for some reason. so it seems better to have a strong tea, or the things i mentioned above, and take tiny sips of it. more effective, smaller dose. also try just slicing a small peice of raw ginger and sucking on it---but this might be too spicy and strong...so i warn you. but if it works you will be so relieved hence maybe worht trying?

ginger, if you can get enough into your system, is a stronger anti-nausea than dramamine! i learned that from a natropath. however the strong flavor might just be too much, which is ironic cuz it really works if you can tolerate it. but obviously dont force it. it just makes things worse for some people.

also, you should check with an acupuncturist in your area, but ther is an hebal remedy called "curing pills" or sometimes known as "stomach curing" that my acupuncturist told me was safe for pregnancy. but please ask someone ( maybe call an acupuncturist or 2, and a natropath) to make sure. i used it a little in desparate times, and it helped me.

and sleep sleep sleep sleep sleep!

finally, is your name from that song " i have a little present here for you..inside this tiny bottle so very small and blue" ? if so , who sings it? i love that song, remember it from teen-hood but was taught it by a friend and never heard the original song.

Welcome to MDC and Congrats on your baby!

Don't feel too bad, nausea can show up from conception on so you are not the only one to get it super early. Usually it shows up around 5-7 weeks. As for things to try, for me I hada period of about 4 wks that I couldn't keep anything down. To help, I sipped all day long on juice, ice tea, iced ginger ale, anything that would stay down. I didn't even try food until I could keep liquids down. Then I added sour hard candies {lemon drops worked best for me} protein, and crackers, and other foods that sounded like they might be good. Granted, not everything stayed down, but I got to a point after a few days where I was keeping more down than was being ejected. Now I only have occasional problems, mostly due to my overly sensitive nose. Hope that helps some. Take heart mama, it will get better. :Hug

ok i am posting again cuz i just noticed you are in sweden! so i dont know if you can find Reed's Ginger Brew there. its a really strong ginger soda, so if you can find something similar maybe?

otherwise just try making your ginger tea stronger, and add a bit of honey maybe?

i hope you find some relief soon!

Hi Bluebottle, welcome & congratulations!

Although I don't have any new advice for terrible nausea (have you used the search function on this site? I've looked stuff up that way & was shocked by how much helpful stuff I found), I do want to say - it will get better!! And most of all - don't feel guilty! If you need to sleep, DO IT! And if your house is messy or calls don't get returned, oh well! Take it super easy, your body is working hard. I've been way nauseaus, but not as terrifically as you, & it was my very 1st symptom, I was ill every day since 4 days after conception! I'm 4 weeks now, too.

Good luck bluebottle, I do hope you can find some relief.

I have been terrifically nauseated with each of my pregnancies from a few days after conception. This time, I'm too sick to stay adequately hydrated unless I take medication. I have learned a lot from the hyperemesis forums at www.helpher.org. The most helpful thing I've tried has been Unisom (the kind made with doxylamine-- there are two versions). Maybe look there for some ideas. Hang in there!

Yes, what Rachel said. And I think some of our members are in Sweden so they can help you since they treat pregnancy over there so differently.

Are you eating at night?

Protein was key for me.

If you have to, eat plenty of protein for dinner and then make a snack. Set the alarm clock and get up in the middle of hte night and eat your snack. I could do the high carb stuff (breads etc..) in the middle of hte day but the key for me was protein and lots of it. I just think that the 8 hours we go in the night is just too long for a pregnant woman to go without something in her system. I mean even tho you are sleeping, your body is working VERY hard. Your blood volume is increasing at a VERY rapid pace.

If your nausea is beyond endurable, I know there is some sort of anti-nauseant med for women who are pg? Don't know what it's called tho?

Hope you feel better soon.

There are several antiemetics. I'm taking them this pregnancy because without them I can't stay hydrated enough to stay safe. Common ones are Zofran, Reglan, and Phenergan, although there are others, too. And like I said, taking a half a tablet of doxylamine unisom with B6 makes the biggest difference for me.

Peppermint tea!!!

1 tsp peppermint to each cup water. Add a few drops of honey for flavor.

This is my third pregnancy, and it's killing me, lol. I had such an easy time carrying my other two, i was shocked and amazed at how sick i was this time, starting the same day i took the test!

Another thing that helps me is orange juice, but the acid makes some ladies sicker, so you'll have to experiment a bit with what works for you.

Good luck!

about acupuncturist----i think you *might* be able to simply talk to a natropath or acutpuncturist on the phone just to simply ask of curing pills are safe during pg---thats all i meant. i dunno some might not tell you i guess, but thats the kind of thing i do when i am wondering about stuff like that. sorry about your head! i hope you dont have a concussion! tell your doc about falling, ok?

hope you find the magic elixer soon
