I just took a test which was negative, 5 days after expecting af. My period is always about 3-6 days late anyway- I have long cycles. But... i don't know. I've had off and on twinges and light cramps for about 2 weeks which is not normal for me with af, but i did have those twinges all through my first pregnancy with my dd. I remember when I was pregnant with her i just kept thinking maybe they were regular cramps, and then they weren't. But, seems like 5 days after when I start expecting my period with the First Response test should have caught it.
anyone got a negative, then a positive?
btw... we aren't trying to conceive, but looking back, i can see how we it could have happend. you know, the good old pull-out method and all :wink

It's certainly poosible. You also may have ovulated late, which would extend your cycle. Wait a few days and test again. :)

It happens all the time -- it's cerainly happened to me when I "jumped the gun" with testing. Good luck!

I had 3 negative tests even though I started testing on day 28 - I ovulated late. My positive test was on day... 31 I think? First response didn't work for me - I got my + with clear blue easy.

Yep. I didn't get a + until I'd tested about 47 times. ;)

daekini... that's interesting- clear blue, huh? my cycles are so long and I havent been tracking temperature or anything while i've been bfing dd, but now that she is sleeping in the other room and dh is doing all the nightime parenting until 4 am, i think I can start doing temperature again. So we've been doing all the birth control based on my fluids, (and i got af when dd was 11 months and never skip) so either that's working really good, or maybe despite getting a period getting pregnant won't happen until dd weans. but, i doubt that.
i guess i'll wait out next week and see.

I'm a little confused here when you say you're always 3-6 days late. I'm assuming you mean based on a 28 day cycle? You're not always late you just don't have a 28 day cycle. Sounds like you have a 31-36 day cycle and BFing can definitely tend to make you ovulate later than you would otherwise. So if you mean you were "five days late" according to the 28 day textbook cycle then absolutely you could still very well be pg because you're not yet really late for you. Now if you mean that you're really and truly five days past late for you well that might make it less likely. However since you weren't charting you could very well have ovulated later than normal for you or you might not even have ovulated yet this cycle. Bfing really can make your cycles quite wacky. I've never gotten a negative and then a positive but I have gotten a very light positive when AF was due so if I had tested any earlier I would have gotten a negative when I was pg. Good luck!

yep. 3 negative tests for me. So then I gave up the thought that I was pg and instead got pneumonia and instead of getting an x-ray, the doc gave me news that I was pregnant. I'm due in August. :D
Happens all the time.
Good luck

yeah, wasabi, i don't know. I definitely don't have 28 day cycles. When I was charting w/temp, I ususally ovulated around day 19 or so. That was before dd, so, no bf-ing. My cycles are more in the 30 something range. It's now 39 days. This is the latest its been, but not completely abnormal. I've gotten af at 41 days before. I guess I'll just keep waiting for one or the other... thanks for the input.

If you've gotten AF as late as 41 days and you haven't been charting I'd probably wait until cd41 before I even considered myself late.
good luck
