Will homemade hummus or split pea soup freeze ok? I have tons of hummus leftover from a get together a few days ago and I'm afraid its all going to go bad before I can eat it. I was also planning on making some split pea soup for dinner but I was hoping to freeze the leftovers...would the texture, etc be ok? TIA!

The split pea soup would freeze great. I don't know about the hummus though, never tried it.

I once froze a big batch of hummus and when it thawed it was NASTY. The texture turned all gritty and the delicate flavors had become bland and kind of musty. Maybe the tahini didn't like being frozen. I ended up throwing it all away and never tried freezing hummus again. I'd be interested to know if there are tricks to make it work, because we looooove hummus!

Well, I haven't made the split pea soup (I did freeze the leftover ham from Easter to make it another day) because DH was home late that night. I did freeze the hummus because I was *so* sick of hummus sandwiches, veggies with hummus, etc and I didn't want to waste it all. I have it in little baby food jars, so its portioned out. I hope it turns out ok!

I have frozen hummus before and, while the texture was different once it defrosted, the taste was fine.
