anyone want to think about names yet?

OK...I know it's early for the name game, but Iwondered if You all could help me out with a middle name. We are REALLY hoping for a boy(of course I'll be happy either way :wink ) and we've had our name picked out for a while now. We just can't come up with one or two decent middle names. His name will be Obediah (and we'll call him Obie) and our last name is Nelson. We want something 1-2 syllables, unique, easy to say, perhaps earthy. If you want tohelp with a girl middle name, we are looking at "Zoe" for a first name. Thanks all!

Oh, I love Obadiah! I'd love to use that name (or other similar Biblical names- Ezra Ezekiel, Zechariah, etc) but dh says no way. I'll have to think a little more- it seems like you need a short, one syllable classic or Biblical name to go with Obadiah.

James is nice- or a Celtic name like Duncan or Douglas? Maybe a plant name like Sage or Rowan? (or Roane, which is the celtic word for seal...) I'm loving Obediah too :smile

FWIW, our little one will be either Logan Gareth Neale (it would scan better the other way round, but I'm losing the argument) or Skye Selkie Neale.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. We actually didn't pick the name for Biblical reasons. We're not really Christians(I say not really b/c we celebrate the holidays, but have more of a pagan look to them) I LOVE the suggestion of Roane. Thank you! Will takemore!

Funny, James is what popped immediately into my head before I scrolled down to look at the replies. But I don't really like it. Roane is cool.

Well, I need to come up with a name that can be easily pronounced in three languages. I like Lucas, but it's #1 in France. And Fergus. I'd like a boy's name with an s at the end.

For a girl eveyone keeps saying it should be a flower name (dd has a flower name). I like Lilas. Just met an 8 year-old Lilas the other day who was literally the incarnation of my own dd in 3 more years. Eery.

Well, we are the type to never share our name choices, but since no one here knows me IRL I guess I will go ahead! Boy names are the hardest for me- girls I'm not too worried about b/c there are so many gorgeous names, it'll just be a matter of presenting dh with my list and letting him pick one.

For a boy I think it'll be Aaron Joshua- Our criteria is that it's a Biblical name (just what I prefer for a boy, no other reason), no more than 2 syllables, and not wildly popular. Our son's name is Ethan which dh picked, but then of course I find out it's like the #1 name in every state- ARRRGGGHHH! I don't even like Aaron all that much, but it fits our criteria and I think it'll grow on me if it's my son's name! And Joshua I LOVE, but it's prone to nicknames, hence the mn position!

Isaac - its pronouced "I-zak", so we'll shorten it to Zac. We felt it was too silly to spell Zac "Saac."

Oh yep, I'm completely out of boys names-and yet, I'm convinced this babe is a boy. What to do, what to do? I heard a name, long long ago, that I loved- I know the meaning (it means a tree by a lake) but can I find it anywhere? Can I remember? Not a sausage.
Isaac is a truly cool name- my youngest is called Isaac, though his nickname is Iggy (his brother is aka Xander- their daddy was an Iggy Pop fan.) My littl'un lives up to the meaning, as well.

out of boy names here too... we used up our first two choices on the twins. isaac is a beautiful name... unfortunately dh doesn't like it. i'm leaning towards noah... obediah james is beautiful! i love biblical names. if it's a girl it's going to be ada grace (my grandmother + dh's grandmother) and i really, really feel like it is... or maybe that's just a whole lot of hoping. :p

enomommy- I love Jonah and Micah, too! Great name choices. I love Ada Grace- I think we have the same taste in names!

Girls- I am thinking either Nora or Elsa, and I just started liking Evelyn. I love Eva and that would be my top choice but it is too close in sound to ds-s name (Ethan) so that would be too confusing. Nora is just slightly popular around here, that's my only hesitation. Also, we have an Irish sounding last name, although my dh is hispanic, he is adopted, so Nora with and Irish last name for a 1/2 hispanic child is kind of odd, but oh well- ds turned out totally blonde and blue eyed! For a mn I am thinking my name- Mary- but I haven't mentioned it to dh yet and I'm not sure he'd go for it.

There are a lot of boys names that I love, but can't use for various reasons. We have a no names of former pets rule. :LOL I'm kicking myself for naming my cat Nicholas when I was 14! I love that name, but it is used up. Similarly, Madeline, Felix, Jordan, Noel, and Fred are out. There are a few names that I don't want to use because family members have them (family members that we don't want to name our kids after :LOL ). Thomas and Daniel are out because of those. Johnathan is out because there's like 5 Johns on our block alone. If we lived in a different neighborhood, maybe.

I am totally stumped on girls names, though. My first is Katherine Anne, and my second is Emily Rachael. I like Eva, but there is a neighbor girl named Evan, and besides, it sounds too much like Emily. I love the name Victoria, but I don't like Vicky, so that one is out (unless it's for a mn). I want something rather classic, but strong. I love the idea of Honor as a middle name, but don't know what I would do as a first.

I am for some reason convinced that we are having a girl - I was from the get go. This is strange, considering all but 2 of the births that I have attended ended up boys - so part of me thinks that girls aren't born. How did I get here? I don't know, I hatched.

But I have fallen in love with one girl name - and we are pretty positive about a boy's name. I say that now, but we have let's see, nearly 34 weeks left to be pregnant.

So I can't say the girl or boy first name - for fear they will be stolen! :LOL

But we do know that the name Walker will end up as one of the two middle names (I have two, and it will make it easier to use more names we like) if it is a girl, because DH was very close to his maternal granddad and his last name was Walker. The first name for a boy that we like starts with a G (that's all I'm saying!) and our last name starts with a B, so we were afraid that if we put Walker in the middle name for a boy his initials would be GWB and people would think that we were Bush supporters. GOD FORBID.

So for middle names we like Walker (family name), Alden (family name), Cecilia (variation of my middle name, Cecile), and Jestes (another family name).

So anyway - I have prattled on long enough. This is such fun!

itsybitsy: yeah, i think we do have the same taste, i had elsa on my list too! i love names that end with the "ah" sound. nora mary is really pretty... that was my great-grandmother's name.

other girl names i had were emily, gwenyth, charlene (but we would call her charlie!), jubilee (juby for short... is that silly? i can't tell if it's super-cute or just stupid.), and meri. my husband really likes claire, but i'm not wild about it.

When i was pg with my dd her name was going to be Autumn Skye but my mother didnt like the name and since she was supporting us money wise i let her talk me out of it. Used Skylar McKenzie instead. Dont know what i'll name this one. i was thinking Ocean for a boy(don't know if i like it as much as i thought i did before) no ideas if its a girl. But whatever i decide i know i wont be letting my mother know before its too late to do anything about it.

Well, we've decided on first names.

Dorian for a boy.

Astrid for a girl. I've been pushing this one since dd was born, but I had given up. Dh came up with Dorian and dd's name, so if this is a girl I get to name her Astrid!

Loraeileen - I like almost all the names you've come up with. Isolde is cool.

No- though that's pretty. It was definitely Celtic, I think began with a C, and appears to have vanished off the face of the planet at some point in the last 5 years. Oh, and it was also on the Hipmama names list- which I don't think is still there.

If we have a girl she will definitely be Charlotte Yvonne. Her middle name would be for my great grandmother, Yvonne, who passed away this past November at 104 years old.

Our first daughter's name is Madeline and we call her Maddie. If this one is a girl she will be Charlotte and we will call her Charlie. Two feminine, French, names from children's literature...and two fun, spunky nicknames.

If we have a boy we are probably going to be undecided for most of the pregnancy, but so far our most favorite is Finn Oliver.

Currently I have 3 girls, Aidyn, Maison and Jordyn and 1 son, Jonathan.

We have no preference on gender this time but I am having a hard time with boy names (which is apparently a running trend for everyone!)

My husband is stuck on Beau for a girl or boy which I am adamantly opposed to for some reason. Probably because I've heard this as his ONLY suggestion for the last 2 pregnancies and now this one, it gets old.

So I have Ellery for a girl. I like Greenley as well. I like Ethan for a boy and heard the name Faber yesterday which I thought was nice. We also had decided 2 years ago that after a very dear friend passed, named Evelyn, we would name another girl Evelyn and call her Evie for short. I think Evelyn fits in better with our "n" theme. I dunno. I'm really at a loss and DH wants this baby to be a surprise, so it will be a long pregnancy of discussion I'm afraid!

I am having a hard time with names too. 10 years ago when we had my son Keegan, we only had one boys name, so I was convinced we were having a boy. We had at least 10 girls names. Who knows what those were now. I just remember my top name was Elizabeth Anne. At this point my goal is not to have a name in the top 100. It is quite fun having a 10 yo help pick out names. He has added Anikan and Spartacus to the list. I am leaning towards Seamus and Fergus. Who knows what my dh will want. He isn't thinking about the baby too much yet. I had to convince him that Keegan wasn't a sissy name. I am thinking we are having another boy as I am not thinking of too many girl names at the moment. Analise is the only one so far. This is so much fun. When I was pregnant 10 years ago there wasn't this fun internet stuff.
