My second baby is due the 19th and I am on a hunt for a sitz bath to use postpartum. I have collected a few recipes and am now trying to get the herbs; however, the Apotheke is not familiar with the terms, as I am guessing they are different auf Deutsch.
The only thing they are suggesting is Kamille (chamomille)sp???
Here are some of the ingredients from three different recipes:
Shepherd's purse
uva ursi
comfrey leaves and roots
Lavender flowers
Comfrey leaves
Sage leaves
Calendula flowers
Rosemary
lavender oil
cypress oil
Thanks so much ladies!

I had my first baby in Hamburg, Germany. It was a hospital birth but a wonderful nurse midwife delivered her. I also got pregnant with my second child in Germany, and because I could read German better, I found Ingeborg Stadelmann's book Die Hebammen-Sprechstunden (The Midwive's Office Hour) very helpful. It is a well known book and she has many aromatherapy and herbal preparations that you can get at many Apothekes. I'll translate a sample of basic homeopathic, herbal, and aromatherapy preparations and try my best to translate your quest at the bottom of the post (I'm in the US right now so I don't have an umlaut key):
Himbeerblaeitertee (Raspberry Leaf Tea) You can get this at the Apotheke or a health food store. Ditto for the rest. If an Apotheke doesn't have something oftentimes a speciality health store will.
Leinsamen (Flax Seeds-recommended to take at the 34th week)
Johanniskrautoel (St. John's Wort oil)
Weizenkeimoel (Wheat Germ oil)
Muskatellersalbei (Clary Sage)
If it is Pregnancy tea you are after they have a mix at the Apotheke. You can call it Schwangerschaftstee or ask for the Raspberry Leaf. If they act like they don't know what you are talking about ask for this recipe (equal parts-taken directly from her book. BTW-I used to drink this when I was in Germany):
Brennesselkraut (I can't remember. Sorry.)
Frauenmantel (Lady's Mantel)
Himbeerblaetter (Raspberry Leaf)
Johanniskraut (St. John's Wort)
Melissenblaetter (Melissa leaves)
Schafgarbenkraut (I'm guessing Sheperd's Purse but I'm not "sicher.")
Zinnkraut (Horsetail)
If you have a bladder infection or UTI Ingeborg reccommends:
Baerentraubenblaetter (literally Bear Grape leaves)
Birkenblaetter (Birch tree leaves)
Goldrute (Gold Brush? Probably Golden Rod or Golden Seal)
Hauhechel (something to do with breath or respiration)
Kamillenblueten (Chamomile Flowers)
Loewenzahnwurzel (Dandelion Seeds)
drink at leas three cups daily. I used this also when I had a bladder infection. It works. Specifically your question:
Shepherd's purse (I'm guessing Schafgarbenkraut)
uva ursi (no idea)
comfrey leaves and roots (no idea)
Lavender flowers (Lavendel or Lavendel Bluemen)
Comfrey leaves (not sure)
Sage leaves (Salbei)
Calendula flowers (I don't remember but it is similar to English. Weleda has a Calendula oil that you could find at the drugstore that would have the exact translation)
Rosemary (Rosmarin)
lavender oil (Lavendeloel)
cypress oil (Zypresseoel)
BTW-Weleda is a great product and they have great Arnica massage oil if you want to use that for your perineal massage. See if the man at the Apotheke knows who Ingeborg Stadelmann is and see if they carry her aromatherapy preparations (Aromatherapie). She uses the very highest grade of oil (guaranteed) and it is wonderful for massage during birth. It is a mixture of Clary Sage, Rose, Ylang Ylang, and something else. Heaven! What a wonderful way to welcome my baby into the world! :babygirl:
Viel Glueck!

You can get Stadelmann's mixtures from www.bahnhof-apotheke.de if they don't have it at you Apotheke, but order over the phone. Their stuff is great, and I used her Sitzbad salt quite regularly during and after pregnancy.
