I am 27 weeks. Just started having some lower back and abdominal pain, much like when I am on my period. (about 20 min now)

It is constant. Not coming and going.

Tell me this is just gas? I'm going to watch it.

Any ideas?

Why don't you try taking a warm relaxing bath? If the pain eases or stops then maybe it was gas? Have you been doing a lot today or taking on more than usually? Sometimes slowing down, having a cup of tea and putting your feet up makes a world of difference. If the pain persists, gets more intense or starts coming and going I would recommend calling your care provider. Also if you think your waters have broken or if you experience bleeding from your vagina call. The most important thing is to listen to that little voice inside your head...if it says call your care provider, then do it - always better safe than sorry and really that is what they are there for! Good luck and take care.

Ok, I am feeling better. I don't know what it was. It lasted about an hour. I'm going to up my water intake and relax tonight. Things have been a bit hectic lately.

I had this exact thing happen to me this week--I'm 26 weeks and 4 days--and it was frightening. I knew I wasn't in PTL, but I felt badly and couldn't figure out why.

The next morning, I knew I had a UTI. (Which I treated with foods and extra water and is gone...) So, be on the look out for UTI symptoms.

Good luck!

I was thinking UTI as well. I'll be on the lookout, thanks.

I think that it was maybe an episode of gas. I've been getting cramps and pain this week all related to gut issues. I have IBS and my pregnancy is actually making my gut troubles worse. When I first had the cramps this week I thought it was the baby, too. It's scary, huh?

When I was at 27 weeks with my first pregnancy I went in to the hospital thinking I was in labor because of a lot of pain in both my lower back and my front. It turned out to be kidney stones, which never occurred to me! I guess they are more common during pg.

Bel Canto, I'm glad you're feeling better. Increasing water is a great idea - dehydration can cause an irritable uterus. Take care.
