Hi,

We'll be in New York for the Thanksgiving holiday and I was wondering ifanyone could suggest some fun things to do with two 2 yo's?

We are going to go to the Macy's parade - and pointers on that would be appreciated too. Where is the best locale to sit and what time to go? etc.

Is the Children's Museum a good place to check out?

We're staying in the West Village, restaurant suggestions...

Thanks for your input!

xo,
Jess

Hi ...

The parade is early, and people start lining up really early, like 7am early. Biggest concern might be bathrooms. Don't drink a lot before you go :) ... Before I lived uptown we tried to see the parade at all different locations, but have found it much easier uptown, eg., Central Park West. There are benches to sit/stand on, on the east side of the street, anyway. But for sheer spectacle, going to Times Square (Broadway in the 40s&50s) can't be beat, with the tall buildings and neon and Barney floating down the street :D ...

A few nights before Thanksgiving go to the Museum of Natural History (Central Park West bet. 81st & 77th) and they blow up the balloons for the parade, that's fun ... but very crowded, have the little one in the stroller & blanketed up ;) ...

Children's Museum is great for 2yos, West 83rd between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue. (We don't go there anymore, not in the budget ... but it is fun). Also the Museum of Natural History if your little one is up to dinosaurs yet ... or even the planets/space museum section ... and it's much cheaper ("suggested admission," which means you can pay a quarter to get in ... or a nickel ... or a penny ... but they won't tell you that ;)).

Enjoy ...

Hi Amy,

Oh, thank you. I am so excited. I had forgotten about the Natural History Museum, and Dd loves dinosaurs, maybe we will go there on Wednesday and see the Museum and then watch them blow up the balloons - I'd read it was the nite before Thanksgiving.

We will definitely check out the Children's Museum, too.

This is our last real vacay, as Ds is due in February, so I am hoping to make it a really memorable one for Dd!

This is just such a different trip from the ones I've made to NYC in the past - mostly art museums, galleries, and some off broadway shows. So, I am quite interested in seeing the child's side of New York.

Warmly,
Jessie
