Ladies,

I will be hosting the first ICAN meeting in Dublin on September 28.
The meeting is open to any mothers, fathers, professionals who have
been affected by a cesarean or need support for VBAC.

ICAN (International Cesarean Awareness Network) is a non-profit
organization whose mission is to improve maternal-child health by
preventing unnecessary cesareans through education, providing
support for cesarean recovery, and promoting Vaginal Birth After
Cesarean (VBAC).

Support for mothers in Ireland

A birthing woman's emotions can profoundly affect the birth outcome -
which in turn can affect her life. ICAN of Dublin provides a safe
place where people can explore and share their feelings, become
aware of birth options, and learn new information. In this
supportive environment men and women begin to realize they are not
alone.

The purpose of ICAN

To lower the rising cesarean rate through education,

To provide a forum where women and men can express their thoughts
and concerns about birth, and

To provide a support network for women who are healing from past
birth experiences and for those who are preparing for births.

If you know of anyone who would be interested in coming along - it
will be a very informal gathering please let me know so I have an
idea of how many to expect.

Thanks

Tracy

I sincerely wish your group the very best, my wife suffered a cesarean here in Florida in 2003 and my cousin just went through one a few months ago in Dublin. The more support you can give to mothers that go through it the better!

wishing you the best. i went through a c-section 13 mo ago and am still quite traumatized by the event. i felt all my power was taken away and i was not able to truly experience the birth of my son. since most of my friends had vaginal births, it has been difficult to find some to empathize with me. i would love to participate in an ICAN meeting my area, if one exists. i live in dallas, tx, usa. thank you and the best of luck!

Thanks for the good wishes. Irish mothers have been waiting a long time to tell their stories. Hopefully we can get some more chapters going throughout the country soon.

Have a look at the ICAN website - maybe they have a chapter near you.. it's http://www.ican-online.org
