I am interested to know, from a mw's perspective, what would make a good vaginal breech delivery candidate, iyo. By that, I mean what circumstances would give you enough of a comfort level so that you would plan to deliver a breech baby at home?

Thank you!

I was just doing a search and saw this thread: http://mothering.com/discussions/showthread.php?t=287068&highlight=breech

Pamamidwife said that American mws are trained differently than British ones. I'm not sure if Pam is still around, but does anyone know the differences between the two approaches?

:lurk:

('Cause I'm a twin, born second, by natural, drug free, breech, vaginal delivery 14 minutes after my sis.)

I was born breech myself-and I look at life backwards...always! LOL

Many American providers are taught that they must manually rotate the baby's head and there is alot of anxiety about breech births. In the UK, there is more of a hands-off type training, allowing the baby to rotate itself out. It's not like that all the time for either side, but it is definitely something to consider.

For me, an ideal vaginal breech birth candidate was someone who honestly understood the mechanics of breech birth, had a strong intuitive connection with their baby and body and felt confident about the risks/benefits of breech vaginal birth. I would also want a supportive partner.

Thanks, Pam. I appreciate your input. I did some reading about breech births in the UK. What a difference! At least there women are allowed to *attempt* breech vaginal deliveries even in hospitals.

Any other mws out there?? :)
