Is there anyone in Germany who likes to Scrapbook? I love scrapbooking and do not have much time to do it, however, it is one of my favorite hobbies. I am hoping that there are others in D who like it as well and can possibly give hints as to where the scrapbooking stores are located. I use mostly creative memories items, however, I have found beautiful paper at some wonderful independent shops and the Scrapbooking Fairs.

Anyone with info on scrapbookers in Germany?

Laila,

If you're interested in scrapbooking, the best place to start would be the military base, if you have access. The craft stores there have a better selection and variety of crafts than the typically German ones.
Knitting, crocheting, sewing and a bit of cross-stitch are the usual things to be found in the German craft shops or craft sections of the department stores.
At least in BW craft specialty stores have not prospered and many have simply shut down in the past couple of years. In France, however, there are a couple of really great craft shops with a nice selection of scrapbooking activities.

Have you done a search to see if there are any scrapbooking groups in Germany?

Thanks Holly!

I have not done a search. I did check the Creative Memories web site and notice that there are consultants in Germany and I am sure there must be several on the larger bases. I was wondering if it has caught up with German mothers! It is truly (after eating and traveling) my favorite hobby. It is something that can be treasured and admired...so was wondering if Europeans have caught on. I can always be CM materials on Ebay..but I do purchase items from independent scrapbook stores as well. Yesterday I purchased more paper and I will continue to do that until the packers arrive. I like the tools from CM but I love the paper from other companies! Not that I have a lot of time to scrap...but hoping once I am in a house and not a tiny apartment that I will get a bit more accomplished...once settled.

HOw is BW this summer? I notice this week there has been a lot of rain throughout Germany? What was the temperature like?

There used to be a craft store with classes on Ledward. They sold scrapbooking supplies too. It was in the basement 2 buildings before you get to the clinic. Right hand side.

Laila,

I know the craft shop on the post in Stuttgart also sells scrapbooking supplies. I think special things can be ordered as well. Even though I don't have a US military pass, a good friend of mine does and she often takes me to post so that I can buy some craft supplies that are hard to find in Germany (like large knitting needles) and so that I can enjoy the library. English books! My bliss...
Anyways, the point is that perhaps if end up living off post and non-military affiliated, if you know someone then perhaps....

The weather in Germany this summer has been either very hot and humid or dry and cool with a bit of wind. I like the dry weather with a bit of wind. So like Bay Area weather!
Temperatures around 20-25°C. With a lot of rain, so everything is very green.

My mom is a creative memories consultant! What a coincidence....She knows a few other consultants in Germany - I think one is near Aachen.

There is a new craft store called Idee, in Stuttgart - Have you been there, Holly? It by no means has the supplies that you would find in a scrapbooking store in N.America, but it does have alot of cool papers, stencils, die cuts and what not. My mother is a CRAZY scrapbooker (presents at conferences in Las Vegas, etc) and she was quite happy when I took her to Idee because she could get a lot of cool stuff that she had never seen in N.America....really cool stuff that her fellow swappers and croppers got jealous over :innocent

I'm not sure if conventional scrapbooking as it is back home is catching on here, or if it ever will. Germans seem to enjoy minimalist, simple designs for photography and such and tend to steer away from folk-art-ish (i.e. alot of things on a page) styles. But I have seen a few places selling 12x12 papers so who knows. I've yet to see albums with clear envelope pages (the kind to slip the 12x12 into) off the base - most scrapbooking albums here have black or white cardstock for pages.

I do not scrapbook to the extent that my mom does, but if I need any paper supplies, I usually get them from the UK version of Ebay - cheap shipping than from ebay.com and cheaper paper than whats available in stores in germany.

Hi there,

What can you tell me about that scrapbook store in Stuttgart? Do they have their own website. I wasn't able to get any information on it while doing searches on the internet. What is the full name...IDEE?

I'm in the US right now but will be there in the future, but I could get some family members there now if I saw some things that I'd like to get purchase on line.

Do you know of any other stores in the Stuttgart area, or in Koln area? From what my family has told me, this hobby isn't that big in Germany yet.

I WANT to make some scrapbooks, specifically like fancy photo albums of our baby or something. But, I haven't found the photo albums that have a sticky overlay.. All I've found are albums with individual photo sections (slip-sleeves, essentially), and albums that just have a protective sheet that lays between the pages, and you have to glue the photos in yourself (and don't have any protective, sticky overlay to keep them from getting damaged or falling out if the glue doesn't hold.)
