Hello - we are going round and round on names for our girl due in Sept!

Can I just have some HONEST (and I mean brutally honest - I'm not the type to get offended over people's opinions on names - I want to know *before* I name the kid!) opinions on these?

Thanks so much! This is pretty much our final list, so we don't need other suggestions at all, just thoughts on which to pick from these.

While I think all the names listed are ok, none are really grabbing me. How are you pronouncing Genevra?

Genevra is - je-NEV-ra

At least that is what I presume! I have never met anyone with this name, but have seen it in writing and think it is beautiful. If I am incorrect on that pronunciation, please anyone correct me! I would hate to be using the wrong one!

I like the other three, but Gloria just isn't doing it for me. I think I would like it very much but all I can think of is Gloria Estefan and that's ain't a good thing.

I voted for Genevre but Sabrina is very nice also. Just stay away from Gloria.

You asked. ;)

Hmm, they all seem sorta drab to me, too. Katerina is the best, but ONLY if that's what you plan to call her. Otherwise she'll end up as a Kate or Katie with an interesting name that's wasted.

Sabrina is pretty, objectively, but I think it's been hopelessly contaminated by "Bewitched." I can't hear it without seeing that obnoxious little minx of a so-called witch. Hope this is not too brutal!

Hmmm....I voted for Gloria because I really like it and you never see it anymore, however I was pronouncing Genevra a different way. I quite like the way you pronounced it!

Katerina is nice, but not a favorite and Sabrina makes me think of "Sabrina the Teenaged Witch"

I like Genevra the best the other ones just seem ordinary and boring. I met a Genevra once, very pretty name.

I really like Sabrina- You don't hear it much, but it is easy to pronounce and spell.

Katrina is pretty, but Kate, Katie, etc... are pretty used at the moment.

Gloria - for some reason just doesnt' grab me... maybe Glory instead?

Genevra- I just can't get into it. I like Geneva better. It will get mis-pronounced a lot: gene - ev - rah or jen-eve-rah etc...

Good Luck

Well, brutally honest? Genevra seems like Geneva misspelled.

I love Sabrina (it's my DD#2's middle name:-). Gloria is pretty, but seems a little old fashioned, could work nicely though.

if you want brutal honesty, i'm not crazy about any of them. if i had to chose, it would be sabrina, or katerina (i quite like kate or katie as a nickname).

gloria makes me think of an old lady (sorry!)

genevra i agree sounds like geneva misspelled.

sabrina does make me think of "sabrina the teenage witch" or whatever that show is called......but aside from that it's a great name.

good luck! i HATE chosing names, my ds was three weeks old when we finally settled on one. it is SO much pressure!

I chose Katerina. :)

Gloria is noble, but I, too, like Glory better.

Sabrina is Bewitched to me as well, I don't like it at all. Doesn't help that I have known only one Sabrina IRL and she was pretty down and out.

Jenevra instead of Genevra? I like 'J' better than 'G' and it would no longer be confused with Geneva.

Katerina is lovely. I like Katie and Kate, although they are very popular at the moment.

All the best in picking the best name for your sweet baby!

Can't get into Gloria - too old-fashioned for me - but Katerina seems lovely, even if the kid chooses later to be called Kate or Katie for more "fit-in" ability during teenage years or whatever.

Genevra is lovely and unusual.

I voted for Gloria. But I also like Sabrina a lot, so for me it's a toss-up between the two. I think that while for us Gloria and Sabrina might be remenescent of the pop culture figures mentioned above, neither one is huge enough to strongly imprint on the name for people who will be your daughter's peers.

I agree that Genevra seems like a typo. I like Geneva.

I like Katerina, but agree that the shortened versions are awfully popular right now. We have crossed kate off our list for this reason.

I like Generva and Gloria a lot. I can easily picture a little girl with those names, very sweet and different but not weird... The other two I'm not so crazy about.

My son Jude is good friends with a Katarina that in her 3 years of life has been:
Katia
Katina
Katrina
Kat
and my favorite as I really don't like any of those (including Katarina) is Nina. Finally a name I'm happy she's being called! Not that it really matters what the heck *I* think!

You REALLY seem to want to konw what we think of the names... so I'll telll you and be BRUTALLY honest like you asked. Said with love...
Genevra -- I would forget this name instantly. After being introduced I would call her sweety or your daughter until you repeated it often enough for me to remember it. But, I'd probably ask you her name again next time we met. I wouldn't know how to spell it. (*see footnote) I wouldn't know how to pronounce it if I saw it on my roll the first day of school.
Gloria -- Cute name. I think the song Gloria and Gloria Ganer are far enough from her peer's conscience to not be a problem. I like that it's feminine sounding, yet still strong.
Katerina -- Just dont' care for the names or ALL the nicknames people want to give because it has so many syllables. It seems like such a mouthful!
Sabrina -- It's really ultra-feminine IMO. It's a little too princessy for me personally.

Alright, that was my best attempt at brutal. I hope that REALLY was what you wanted! :bag:

* The same could be said about my daughter Cicely however! If you like the name just go with it!
