I did a google search because I've really been enjoying chewing on ice lately. It said that its related to anemia.
I'm wondering if that's true. Other signs of anemia in the 3rd trimester would also be helpful if you know if any.
It could also just be that its really hot outside and regular water isn't doing it for me.

Pica could be Ice, dirt, starch (like laundry strach) strange foods like that. Sometimes it can be related to anemia, but sometimes its just pg cravings. My mother was just diagnosed with anemia a few days ago and she had all the symptoms except pica. If you have anemia you could be very tired and worn out, usually the biggest sign. You might also experience pale skin, sore tongue, inabbility to concentrate, brittle nails, and your gums, eyelids and finger nails can loose their pink tint and turn white. But I have known lots of pg ladies who crave ice chips. I really enjoy them while in labor and won't touch it any other time.

I crave ice throughout my pgs. Been tested several times for anemia and I'm not anemic! I just love my ice while pg. Now, this is coming from someone who doesn't like ice any other time...at all! I don't even like my drinks to be cold.

This might have nothing to do with anything, but when my son was anemic he showed no signs. He had a really low count and I was told if it got any lower they would do a blood transfusion (this was by 4 different doctors at 2 different practices). He was running, playing, laughing, not overly tired in anyway. I also didn't notice any of the other signs the doctors told me. We ended up putting him on iron for 1 month and his levels went back to were they should be. Yet, still no change. I kept being told that he would be more entergetic, have more energy, that it would be very noticble. But it wasn't.
So, if pregnancy is anything like a 1 year old (or around that age) then you could have no signs at all and still be anemic. Sorry if this has nothing to do with pregnancy anemia. But when I got Iron suppliments when I was pregnant I didn't notice any difference in energy either (I was anemic as well). Of course I didn't notice any lack of energy either.

Me too that's why I was particularly curious. I think its just because its so horribly hot.

I started a thread about ice addiction further down. It can be a sign of anemia-- but I have ice addiction now and am not anemic.
Other signs of anemia include easy bruising and very, very severe fatigue.
The body temp is raised during pregnancy-- maybe it is a way to get rid of internal heat?
