View Full Version : Dilemma

I am having a real dilemma. I have a dream job offer and am currently in the process of moving to Germany.

My problem is that the military is real rigid regarding vaccines. I spoke with my future boss here and she can not understand why parents would not vaccinate and she further stated that the job comes first and she does not want anything interfering with that.

I totally understand. I am very professional and take my line of work very seriously. I am a very devoted AP mother. My little guy is my number focus!

I want to leave my current area (silicon valley) due to various personal reasons...which are quite disruptive. Not to mention relocating to Germany will help me financially....$20,000 more per year. Emotionally life in Germany will be more settled. However, my current boss is very supportive of family issues...especially when she sees what a hard and serious worker one is.

Please advise..I am in such a quandry. I love my current job, however, the new one will yield more money, I grew up in Germany and love it, and we will escape some emotional torture (the ex).

Thanks...I am sickened by all of this.

You'll be a civilian? I didn't think they could force a civilian to vaccinate.

Laila,

If I were you, I'd contact the English speaking LLL leaders in Germany. 90% of them are military affiliated, but since many of them are AP they could probably tell you more about the whole vaccination business.
www.llli.org. I saw that there's an English speaking LLL leader in Wuerzburg. Maybe you should try to contact her?
I assume you mean that the military won't let your son attend the day care/pre-school/schools unless he's got certain vaccinations? The German schools don't require vaccinations - is there a possibility you could send your child to a German kindergarten/school?

Yes I would love to send him to German care....my new boss yesteday went on and on about how the holidays are different and the start and end times. She was then saying that the job must come first and this needs to be taking care of right away and in a way which does not inconvenience my job. I have always been totally professional and would not dream of doing anything else. My son does come first though. I am thinking that perhaps I should find a nanny....that way there would be no trouble whatsoever. Anyway...now I am really nervous. I need him set up by Aug. 22. She also had a field day with the vaccination issue stating how great vaccines are and I guess there was a huge chicken pox outbreak last year that inconvenienced lots of people....and that just did not need to happen.

I assume, then, that your new job is affiliated with the US military. It IS a bit difficult with the different holiday times.
In finding a nanny, do you mean 'Tagesmutter', or more like an au pair? A Tagesmutter might be more what you need, but it might be hard to find one so late that would fit into your time schedules.

Nevertheless, look on the Internet to see if Wuerzburg has got a Tagesmutter Börse or Tagesmutter Zentrum or something related. In most cities in BW this is a stae-run service where Tagesmutters are found (or you can put in an ad yourself) according to your needs (non.smoking, etc...).

Have you checked out the laws pertaining to vaccination and DOD schools? It could be that you have some rights pertaining to this.

I hope you can find a solution!
