Mamas expecting TWINS check-in

I know there are a bunch of us on these boards, and am wondering about how the other mamas carrying two babies around everywhere are doing. At 28 weeks, I am feeling really pretty huge. Last week I measured 36 cm! The 27-week ultrasound estimated one baby to be 3 lbs., 5 oz. and the other was 3 lbs. even. Yikes! Big babies! The ultrasound technician said, "how far along are you supposed to be?" I am quite glad that they are ahead of schedule, since that has been my goal all along, but I am starting to wonder about just HOW big I'm going to get! We are starting to accumulate baby clothes, and are getting quite excited. I have to go to the OB every week now due to high blood pressure. I am still teaching kindergarten full-time, but if my blood pressure rises any higher, I'll have to quit:crying. Some days I am so tired that I wish I could just stay home and lay around, but I know that I'll go insane if I get put on bed rest. Anyway, how are the other mamas doing? I can't wait to find out!

I am curious about when you found out that you were carrying twins.... Did you already have a sense of it, or was it a total shock?

I am newly pregnant thanks to follistem shots and I just have this feeling that I have more than one in there.... It's a gut level thing -- and at this point, I have quit fighting it and have begun hoping that if I do have multiples, that it is just twins and not a higher number..... Everything went well in the infertility cycle, and the RE didn't think I was overstimulated or anything... but who knows!

I am scheduled for a Dec 23rd ultrasound that should answer this question for me...... until then, I think I will continue hoping for twins.....

Hey lexbeach, My question is along the same lines. What were your earliest pregnancy symptoms? When did you suspect? And any other moms of twins out there, I think I'm safe to assume that all us newly pregs here are curious. How did your know:confused: Thanks!

For me there definitely was an instinctual component, but I also had taken clomid so I knew that there was an increased possibility of twins (5-10% depending on different studies). Actually, the night before the first insemination (IUI), I got an overwhelming feeling that I was going to get pregnant, and that I would have twins. The next day, I did one insemination and then later on felt a fairly intense pain in both ovaries. I thought, "hey--I'm ovulating! But, from both sides?" I did a second insemination the next day. Two days later I started to feel nauseous. There was no doubt in my mind that I was pregnant, even though everyone said it was too soon to feel anything. I did an HPT 9 days post insemination and it was positive right away. I called the doctor and said, "I know this might sound crazy, but I just FEEL like I'm having twins." They told me to come in for a beta HCG blood test. 14 days post ovulation my HCG levels were 405 (average for single pregnancies is 68). But a high HCG level in and of itself does not diagnose twins. Even though I hadn't been planning on having any ultrasounds, I was too curious (and I needed to know how many babies I was having since the midwife I hoped to use wouldn't deliver twins). I had an ultrasound at six weeks. First, only one sac showed up on the screen. I said, "there's only one?" The ultrasound technician looked at me like I was crazy, and my partner said, "she thinks she's having twins." The technician moved the wand and said, "she is." Suddenly there were two sacs on the screen. My partner said, "check to make sure there aren't three!" There weren't. So, technically, I found out at six weeks, but I was pretty positive as soon as I had the HCG test. Right after I found out, I became VERY sick with "morning" sickness. I'm glad I knew that it was so severe for a good reason--two babies!

I've heard that every pregnant woman goes through a phase of thinking she must be having twins and, never having been pregnant before, I don't know if I would've felt that way regardless of the truth. But I definitely did feel it from the start. I think that if I hadn't already known, I probably would have figured it out around 19 weeks, when they both started kicking a lot.

I know what it's like to sit around waiting for an ultrasound! Let us know when you find out!

Hey Lex, glad to hear things are going well. You do have some BIG babies cooking in there :) On Monday, my babies were weighing in at 1lb 7oz and 1lb 8oz, which is exactly average for my 3/20 due date. I carry babies low and small, my uterus is only measuring 22w at 25w, weird, huh?

My bad news is that bedrest seems to be on the horizon. From 20-24w, my cervical length dropped from 4.0 to 3.0, which is a lot of activity for that time period. It's still a healthy length, but too much change. I go back in 2w instead of 4 for another measurement. Then, yesterday, I was having contrax and went to the OB and an exam revealed I'm starting to efface. She told me to start wiping the calendar and making plans. I was so upset yesterday. How am I supposed to be on bedrest with a 2.5YO? So, we are starting to get things in order and I'm really sad that we probably won't be able to make our trip home for Christmas. I've never spent the holidays w/out my family :(

Anyway, that's it for me. Glad to hear things are going well for you and your boys. Maybe we'll both have Feb twins :)

I am 21 weeks and measure 28 weeks. i feel huge as well. its crazy i feel like i did when i was 8 months but i am more uncomfortable now. sleeping is horrible i can never get comfy. my poor husband!

i had morning sickness with this pregnancy which was weird for me because i didnt with my first. on top of that i popped right out and so i would joke about twins. but when we found out we were in complete shock.

the shock has worn off and i am excited and scared all at the same time. i am worried about my precious, wonderful 2year old and all the attention what will odviously have to shift to the babies when they arrive.

The most important thing with twins is having the best midwife or OB possible. my midwife is so supportive and says as long as i am full term and the babies are healthy i will have my natural, vaginal delivery that i so badly want. we are doing bradley method and i am really excited about that.

good luck to all the other twin moms. i hang out at twin magazine message boards but i miss mothering so i am glad to find this thread.

I don't have twins, but have been doing bfing support for moms of multiples for 5 yrs, with a group just for them the last 4!

If anyone has any questions about nursing or coping, i can offer ideas from what I've learned from the moms. Also, I found that Mothering Multiples, bu Karen Gromada, is the best book out there for twin (or more) AP life.

I agree "mothering multiples" is sitting right in front of me and it is great. it was hard for me to imagin breastfeeding both. of course i am planning on it but the book has great pictures and i have more of an idea of how i think i want to do it.
"having twins" by elizabeth noble is good to its geared twords natural childbirth so i find much support there.

what books are you reading?

One other thing La Leche League is the best support that i have found. i never went to a meeting with my first but expecting twins motivated me to check it out and it is so wonderful. I have a hard time finding like minded moms out there that are into b-feeding and AP lifestyles. LLL is the place to find others like yourselves. plus i have an encouraging story for everyone. i met a woman who is expecting twins. she is 35 years old and 38 weeks and still working half days. her babies heads are down and look like it will stay that way. she is still getting out and about and hasnt had any complications. now she is just waiting for them to decide to come! I thought it was the best pregnancy story just how i hope mine will go.

NaturalJoy: I'm so happy to hear from you, and am glad that your babies are growing well. I can't imagine how YOU are measuring so small! Lucky! My doctors have also been threatening bedrest, and I am hoping, hoping, hoping it doesn't happen, although I have been quite tired lately! I don't know if my cervix has changed at all because I haven't had any internal exams. . . maybe I will ask for one at my next check-up. Going in every week is certainly a drag, although I never get tired of hearing those heartbeats!

Stayathomemommy: congrats on your twin pregnancy! How far along were you when you found out? You are so lucky to have found a midwife willing to treat your pregnancy and birth as a normal, natural, beautiful thing. None of the homwbirth midwives in my area will deliver twins, and the nurse-midwives at the practice I go to may as well be OBs. They will let me "attempt" to deliver vaginally if Baby A is head-down, but I may need a c-section for baby B if he is breech (which, so far, he is). It depends on which doctor is on-call when the time comes; some will deliver breech babies, some will try to turn them, and some go right for the knife. Regardless of the babies' positioning, I have to give birth in the operating room, lying on an operating table, with an anesthesiologist present. Definitely not the birth I was envisioning when I got pregnant!

lexbeach, dont get me wrong.........i will also be giving birth in an OR with doctors, anesthesiologist, and two teams for the babies but my midwife says its all just precaution so i am just thinking of them as observers at my birth. plus i will get to have my family in a birthing room right up till its time to push and then they will transfer me to the OR. its not the birth i would plan either but if it can still be all vaginal and natural then i dont care where it happens. The attending DR i guess is really good at turning breech babies so i will not worry about baby b too much. as long as baby a is head down then once she is delivered i am confident baby b will know what to do and go head down too. just be strick about them giving it all time to play out. sometimes they want you have the second so fast after the first that they dont give the baby time to turn on its own. i am requesting no time limits on delivery of baby b and my midwife agrees as long as the heartbeat is good.

Still be postive....thats all we can do.
oh i am 21 weeks along and i measure 28weeks. i gained 7lbs last month. so i think i am eating well!!!! heehee.

Oh well, the OR it is. . . I'm now trying to adopt your positive attitude! My OBs/midwives are not nearly so optimistic as your midwife is, so it's hard for me to be. But I do always visualize the babes being head-down (even though their kicks often tell me otherwise), and am feeling pretty calm about the birth regardless. I'm just so excited to see them! The weeks are going by very quickly now, and I am growing even more quickly. I've been gaining 2 lbs. a week for a while. I'm measuring 38 cm, and I can't imagine getting three months bigger! But never having been pregnant before, I keep thinking, "geez, if this was as big as I was gonna get (i.e. having one baby), it wouldn't be such a big deal!" Sleeping is very difficult, though. I get hungry a lot in the night (this is new--maybe they're having a growth spurt), and my upper back aches. It's just so hard to get comfortable. I can definitely see myself moving into a recliner sometime in the near future.

Do you know the sexes of your babies?

i am having two girls. i have a little 2 year old girl as well. my husband is accually very excited. i was hoping to have one boy out of all this but doesnt look that way.

Oh my goodness you measure 38 weeks and you have 3 months to go!!!! i cant imagin but at the rate i am growing now i will be there too. i too am having trouble sleeping and get hungry at night. if you like boiled eggs make a bunch up and grab one everytime you go to the bathroom. i dont like boiled eggs so i make deviled eggs. not as healthy but it does the trick. i dont like having to wake up fully to eat something so something i can gulp down and fall back in bed works best for me.

i am gaining as much as you a week. is it possible to keep this rate up? on the twin magazine boards there are mothers with twins just not gaining weight or even losing weight!!!
I am happy for my weight gain it gives me more confidence that my babies will be healthy and full term. they say protein and carbs do the trick to prevent preterm labor.

I can't even find the last twins discussion I was on. . . my computer crashed and right after that I was hospitalized at 35 weeks for mild pre-eclampsia. After 3 weeks of resisting induction, 3 days of pitocin, during which my body still refused to go into labor, I had a C-section, based on my own intuition that I needed one.

Both babies had been head down and fine, so I was going for that nice vaginal delivery (in the OR), but they both started showing signs of distress (wonder of wonder after 3 days of Pitocin!!!) and it turned out that the presenting baby had her cord tightly wound around her neck and would have been in real distres had I gone into labor. . . guess my body knew not to!!

My daughters were strong and well, but a huge size difference that ultrasound had not measured (my birth is the story of the non-triumph of medical technology!), so Xanthe was 6 lbs 4 oz, and Talia was only 3 lbs 14 oz. Since I got her breastfeeding and gaining weight (although the first pediatrician said NO BREASTFEEDING, she would use too much energy!!!!), I brought her home after 5 days at just under 4 lbs. This week she gained 13 lbs in a week, so is almost 5, and her "big" sister is almost 7.

Life is hectic. My 3 year old also needs lots of love right now and I feel like a cow, breastfeeding and pumping all the time. . . but they are beautiful and it is all worth it. You guys have such fun ahead of you!

Hello. I am 39 + weeks with b/g twins and planning a homebirth. I have had excellent midwifery care and I learned at 23 weeks that I was expecting twins.

Initially, most midwives in the area said I was too high risk for a homebirth but after diligent research, I not only learned that I coud have a homebirth, but I found a great midwife (at 31 weeks) to help.

Nutrition and herbs have been the key. I recommend reading Anne Fry's section on multiples in HOLISTIC MIDWIFERY and Elizabeth Noble's having twins, esp. the nutrition section.

During the time where I could not find a midwfie, I reasearched doctors and hospitals and was gravely concerned by all their immediate protocols. After much thought and prayer I was not able to go that route. About two weeks later I finally found a midwife.

We have no idea the outcome of this birth and we do have an excellent back up plan inthe event of needing to transfer. But I am so thankful that I have not had to have all the interventions that many mothers of multiples have. All the visits, ultrasounds, non-stress tests would have left me a nervous wreck.

It has been tough enough with my two children running around (4 and 18 mo-today) and a husband who works fulltime and is in school fulltime. BUt I rest when I am tired and get up and do things when I am not.

Anyway, We are in the home strectch and I want to encourage other mama's out there to eat well, keep away from sugar and drink over a gallon of WATER a day.

I wanted to bump this up cuz I have some questions.

I am 7 weeks pregnant with #5. I have been exhausted(10hours of sleep at night doesn't seem to cut it), peeing all the time, and I am huge. I feel a lot bigger than I did with #4 at this point. I know you tend to pop earlier with each baby but this seems like more. A friend saw me today and could not believe how much bigger I have gotten in 6 days!

I would love to be pg with twins but wonder if because of that, I am starting to believe it.:confused: I can't stand the suspense, so I scheduled an US for next Tuesday. I am planning a HB but I cannot tell my (soon to be former) OB because it is their practice not to treat patients planning HB. I will go in for the US, then my physical (pap, breast exam...) and I plan on telling her then. The only bad part is that they require you to have a nurse visit first, yuck, 1 hour appt. Oh well, I just need to know for sure.

Just wanted to know from those that did not use the aid of fertility treatments (therefore, causing higher incidence) did you have twin symptoms this early?

You're probably home with your twins by now and loving them to death and not getting any sleep. I am a little overwhelmed by the twins (5 weeks now) and a 3 1/2 year old, so I had to smile at your situation and remind myself that someone else always has it harder!!!

Sounds like you did great with your eating. I read and read about nutrition and herbs, but just couldn't eat as well as I wanted to, as I had morning sickness all day, all nine months.

I'm so glad to hear that you are having a homebirth. I just didn't have the guts to do it, and have some regrets about how my birth went, as far as all the over-medicalization of it, but not many. I just ended up being hospitalized for 3 weeks prior and getting pressured about stuff I didn't want. . . I am hoping that things went beautifully for you and I'd like to hear about it.

No offense taken. I did get pregnant with invitro, but am not really sure about why you would word your question that way since whether or not we did fertility treatments doesn't really affect how early we felt different symptoms because of carrying twins, we just knew sooner. . . my outstanding symptom was bad morning sickness, the whole time, but I know of plenty of moms of twins who had none. I also measured about double right from the start.

I guess you know by now, so let us know. I guess that makes it 5 and 6. That would make you very blessed!

Mine are fertility drug babies too. I wouldn't say that my symptoms were any more or less with this pg than with ds. Some women with multiples pgs do complain of more severe symptoms, faster weight gain, showing earlier, etc. I didn't have any of these :) We found out at 6w we were expecting twins via u/sound.

I joined these forums early on in my pregnancy and there was a huge discussion of twins and homebirth. It's been awhile since I've been here, but I wanted to say that I made it to 40w2d and had my twin daughters at home. It was awesome!

Your birth was perfect!!! It is my all time dream. I love how big the babies were. MY last midwife visit i was discussing how twins usually come early because thats what everyone on earth expects so i love to hear stories of 40 weekers.

I can't IMAGINE making it to 40 weeks 2 days. That is truly heroic. I just got back from my 35 week check-up. Both boys are still breech, and we went ahead and scheduled a c-section for 38 weeks. I know that I will go into labor before then, though. The babies dropped a week ago, and all of my hormones have changed. I am feeling quite ripe. The babies are measuring 7 lbs 6 oz, and 6 lbs even. They are big and healthy. I am beginning to lose it. My body feels like it is stretched to the limit. I hope to make it to 36 weeks . . . but that's all I'm striving for! I am off bedrest and off medication, but am still pretty miserable. The pressure of their little butts on my butt is almost more than I can take.

I was talking to my midwife about how i always here everyone say 37 weeks is full term for twins. she looked at me like i was crazy....she said that 37 weeks is the point that both singletons and twins have mature lungs but it is still not full term. I was surprised. Odviously many twins come early and are fine but i thought it was interesting that full term is still 40 weeks because i always hear everyone talking about 37 weeks being considered full term. She would let me go over 38 weeks no problem where as i hear lots of people say that their OB wont let them go over 38. she didnt understand this? unless their are problems it looks like i wont get any pressure for induction till after 40 weeks. that makes me happy because i just want them to come on their own time.

I think it was a WHO statistic that said 13% of twins go to 40 weeks and beyond.

At 28w 5d,we found out we're having twins.I was seeing a midwife an planning a VERY non-medical intervention birth.However from my 23-26 week check up my uterus grew 14 centimeters!My midwife was concerned it was polyhydramnio(too much amniotic fluid). After researching polyhydramnio, I consented to having anultrasound. Surprise! Baby "A" could hide no more,lol.They think I am most likely having twin boys:)

My midwife does not catch twins and currently does not have hospital priviledges. I was planning a freestanding birth center birth. Tomorrow I go to my last midwife appt. and she will give me a referral to an Ob.I am planning to have a doula present to advocate for me and my babies.

To answer some questios I read in previous posts: my twins were conceive the old fashioned way. I had long suspected something was up b/c I felt movement at 13 weeks!!!I began showing early and BIG,eventhough I have only gained 16 lbs and I am 30 weeks!!I had MUCH more sickness with these babes than with my 7 y/o.

How accurate do ya'll think ultrasounds are at figuring fetus' weights? On the day we found out we were having twins(at 28 weeks) we were told Baby "A" was just over 3lbs and Baby "B" was 2 lbs 11 oz's. People have told me that is HUGE for twins and ultrasounds are not at all accurate in regards to fetal size.

Ultrasound is notoriously innaccurate in fetal weight estimates, it can be about a lb either way at term. However, at 26 weeks, both my twins supposedly weighted 2.5 lbs. They weighed 8 lbs and 7.5 lbs at birth. (Small babise for me.) Good luck!

Stayathomemommy-- the reason why some OBs don't want their patients who are expecting twins to go past 38 weeks is because there have been studies done that show that twins do better when born by 38 weeks. This is hard for me to believe. I guess the reason is because the placenta(s) can stop working very well. My OBs would have no problem with me going to 40 weeks if Baby A was vertex. As is, they don't want me to go into labor. His umbilical cord is underneath him (or, at least, it was in the u/s yesterday), and so they worry about a prolapsed cord. I think they also just prefer scheduled c-sections to "emergency" ones. That said, they still wouldn't schedule one any sooner than 38 weeks unless there was a real reason to (i.e. preeclampsia). So, most likely, I will go into labor anyway and still have the "emergency" section. If, by some chance, I make it to the date of the scheduled section and have not yet gone into labor, I will probably cancel it. That just seems too sketchy to me to take the babies out before they've said they want out.

I have heard that multiples mature faster than singletons (triplets faster than twins, etc.), so that may be why people say that 37 weeks is full-term for twins. My Obs have mentioned that twins mature faster, but still say that 40 weeks is the actual "full-term." One of my twin books says that 36 weeks is full-term!

Congrats on your twins, Hippie-Mama! I found out about my twins at 6 weeks, and can't imagine not finding out until almost 29 weeks! What a surprise! Those estimated weights are just about what mine were estimated to be at that time too. They have consistently measured in the 90th-100th percentile. The bigger the better, I think!

I am feeling a little better today. Tired, but more patient. I hope it lasts!

Nope! I'm STILL pregnant! I'm actually just 36 weeks, so it's a good thing that the babies are still cooking. It does feel a , bit anti-climactic after having been on bedrest for all that time, though. Oddly enough, I'm actually feeling much better than I was a couple of weeks ago. The babies are still breech, but they've settled into a much more comfortable position, and I can walk (waddle) much easier now. I am also just kind of enjoying being pregnant. Bedrest was really no fun at all. We've gone out to eat a couple of times in the last week (figuring it'll be a while before we can do that again), and I LOVE getting to be out and about. I am loving feeling the babies move inside of me, and am already feeling a bit nostalgic about it, since this will probably be my last pregnancy. For a while there I was waking up every morning thinking "I cannot be pregnant one more day." And now I'm waking up excited thinking, "I could go into labor today!" Every night I think I am going into labor. My contractions always start in the early evening and get to be about 5 minutes apart before long. They are getting to be painful. I say, "I might be in labor," and DP says, "When you're really in labor, there won't be any 'might' or 'maybe' about it." I suppose she's right. I always wake up in the middle of the night and realize that, once again, the contractions have stopped. Oh well. The more cooked they get, the better! I am still feeling quite emotional, and don't like leaving my "nest" (except for those dinner excursions), or having visitors. I guess it could still be anyday. . . we'll see! It's immpossible to believe that they'll ever be born.

I am at 12w 3d today.... Does that put me in the second trimester yet?

I think I have a head cold because my sinuses are SO messed up and I just feel icky -- otherwise, I am doing pretty good. The fatigue is just a tiny bit better.... I've never really had m/s to speak of..... Hopefully, I got my last progesterone shot this past Friday...... They have been making me feel icky each weekend....

I see my new OB tomorrow for the first time.... he is a maternal fetal specialist they are sending me to because of the twins and my age (37). They will do an u/s tomorrow and I am eager to see that both twins are still in there and doing fine -- our first (and only, so far) u/s was at 6w 4d and there is always the chance that one of the babies will not make it when it is that early... I will feel MUCH BETTER after tomorrow's u/s. Hopefully, we'll hear the heartbeats, too! (although I am prepared to not incase I have too much "insulation" for the sound to get through...)

DP has been unemployed for three weeks now, her severance pay ran out a week ago and we got the final pay check this past friday.... We decided to go ahead and take our anniversary trip this past week anyways, so she will start looking for work in earnest this coming week. We'll see how that goes. Since I am in school and doing national service through AmeriCorps, we were really dependent on her salary. She also had domestic partner benefits -- I've switched to my work insurance (which sucks compared to what we had, but it certainly is better than nothing!) and they have to cover the pregnancy since I had no lapse in coverage..... We are hoping she can find work somewhere with domestic partnership benefits again, but those companies are pretty rare here in Tulsa, I guess we'll just wait and see....

I can't wait to look pregnant -- right now I just look really fat.... I've been big all my life, so I have lots of extra padding and right now, I just look like I have even more padding. Ugh. My sister who had a baby in November is built like me and she didn't look pregnant until the very end.... up until then, she just looked fatter... (of course I didn't tell her that!!!) Maybe with twins, I'll show quicker.

Glad to hear your still hangin' in there,Lex. Aaaahhhhh what a relief it must be to make it to 36 weeks.I can relate to what you were saying about going back an forth between feeling like ya can't handle the pain and pressure of growth any longer.Yet,at the same time trying to cherish every moment. Once they come into the world they grow and develope SO quickly! Not to mention, as long as they're inside of us no diapers to change,lol.I,too, believe this will be my last pregnancy.Do you find the downside to going out in public is people saying "you're huge!" and assuming you're due Now? I've heard that chiropractic care can be great for encouraging breech babies to turn.

Kathy~ No m/s lucky you! I am excited for you to hear your babes' heartbeats. I can relate to wanting to "show". However,in my case I went to not really looking pregnant to huge and uncomfortable.

DP and I still haven't figured out who's going to catch our "wonder twins":o We went on a hospital tour last week.Since that one gave us a wierd vibe,we'll be checking out more this week. We have checked into having a homebirth...and can't find a midwife that will catch twns. This week I'll be calling some Ob's too.I amfocusing the majority of my energy on drinkig water,resting,and eating lots of protein. I figure those three things will reduce many of the scenarios I could worry about.

Hi ladies! I noticed my friend Mamacita had'nt posted to tell you the wonderful news, so I'll give you a head's up... she had a beautiful homebirth in December and both babies were over 8 pounds! She feels all that protein (150g/day) made such a difference.

They are beautiful, healthy babies and I will leave the rest of the story for her to share when she (eventually) has a chance to check in :love

Lex, WOW on making it to 36w. You are doing AWESOME. I am at 33w3d and feeling HUGE. I can't sleep at all anymore. I troll the internet all night. The insomnia is driving me nuts.

My baby a is head down still and baby b has gone very high and transverse. I'm praying this doesn't open up too much space down below for baby a to go transverse as well. I worry about this all the time. So, as of now, I'm on for a vaginal birth. I hired a doula this weekend :)

I was surprised when my perinatologist told me last week that most of the twins in their practice that are born spontaneously (no scheduled section/induction, mom not on any anti-contrax meds) come at 35w. I had read so many times the average was more like 37w. My goal is 37-38 because I really want to be able to bring my babies home with me. My OB doesn't have guidelines on when twins should be born, he said there's much more risk of them coming too early than too late, so he doesn't set a number. But, like Lex, I've read several studies that say twins just do better when born before 38w. The placenta matures faster with twins and the risk of losing amnio fluid is higher sooner. With my son, my placenta was deteriorating at 41.5w and I had little to no amnio fluid left. So if the theory holds true, then sometime before 40w, that may happen with my twins. My peri does weekly u/sounds now to measure the fluids around the babies. I know many many sets of twins that have gone 40w and been fine, but I guess there probably is something to the studies that as a whole, multiples do better born a few weeks earlier. I'm just waiting to see how things go :)

Anyway, I just can't wait to meet my girls! We set up our crib this weekend as a sidecar to our bed and I get so excited lying there looking at it thinking...in just a few more weeks :)

We are expecting identical boys in July.

We found out two weeks ago that they seem to have Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome, which is actually just as scary as it sounds. :( But they are doing really well, and we are ready to fly out to get laser surgery to correct it if needed.

I pretty much know that they'll need to be taken at the first sign of our smaller babe having trouble, but I've made my peace with that. In this case, it's necessary.

I am just keeping my fingers crossed that we can beat the odds. :)

Hi all! My name is Heather and my husband and I are expecting twins in July or August. My actual "due date" is August 10, but I've heard that they tend to go out the window with twins... We also have a 19 month old daughter named Bailey.

I'm just over 16 weeks and we found out at 8 weeks that we were having twins due to me being hospitalized with Hyperemis Gravidarum. While there, I insisted on an ultrasound, just to make sure the "baby" was okay. Low and behold, there were two in there!

We still can't tell their sexes or if they are identical or fraternal yet. They both have their own sac, but that doesn't mean much... we have our first appt with the perinatologist, who will do all of our ultrasounds from here on out, on March 11. Hopefully, he'll bea ble to answer more questions for us! :)

Hope this thread is still jumping... I want to get to "talk" with other women in the same boat.

I am 33 week and feeling great!! i have almost 9lbs of baby between the two so if it were a singleton pregnancy i would be full term. my first was under 8lbs. but i dont feel like i am at the end which is good because i still have 2 months to go. I think it must be all mental because eventhough i look like i should be giving birth any day i know that i really shouldnt and my eyes are set at 40 weeks so i am not dissappionted when they dont come early. i just have a feeling i will be part of the 13% that go to 40 weeks or behond. but who knows.

who is still out and about? i go to playgroups dayly with my toddler and there is not sign of preterm labor or bedrest. i am just as active as before. i need to be with my husband deployed so i dont go crazy in the house.

Today marks 36w5d for me! I am huge and uncomfortable but no bedrest or problems so far. It's just hard for me to be on my feet for very long, I need to lie down a lot due to severe back pain. So, I don't go out much, it just hurts too much!

I'm hoping next week these babies make their appearance! They are both supposedly around 6lbs so I have 12lbs of baby, an extra placenta, extra fluid, etc. and my belly is about as stretched as they come.

I'm ready to get this pg over with. It's really really really hard at the end :(

i am 2 weeks or so behind you naturaljoy and i have been getting a weekly massage. its the best i feel like i have a lot more energy and the back aches are fewer. i found someone who is inexpensive and knows pregnancy massage(thats important). Lucky me!

I am amazed at your babies weights. i hope to find out that mine are growing that well. i think they dropped a couple days ago and i think baby B has flipped head down like her sister. Hope i am right and that neither one turns breach.

Has anyone dropped yet?? i think they have more dropping to do but they are definately lower then before. ahh its great to take a deep, deep breath!!

Hang in there, you are almost there. You have done really really really well just to get this far with your babies and it is really hard to hang in there. I second the swimming. I swam (floated) in a warm (ish) pool several times a week until I was put on bedrest. The best thing you can do now is spoil yourself and spend as much quality time as you can with your older child, who is soon in for a BIG change!

My girls are three months now, and we are really enjoying them, seeing them smile and try to talk to us.

Hi everyone!

I am 35w4d and eventhough i want to hold out to 37 or 38 weeks i feel like i will go any day. I had a textbook labor with my daughter and so it was very clear that i was in real labor. Everything is foggy this time. I've had a good amount of enery and the nesting urge is strong but the past two days i have been needing to lay down and sleep more and more.

Then today these horrible cramps in my ligaments at my groin. it feels as thought someone kicked the back of my knees and took me out! Laying down doesnt make it 100% better either i still feel the ligament aching and they still cramp. It just feels like labor but then i am probably way off.

does anyone else have these cramps? i know they are normal but could that signal the startings of labor. my mother said she never even had contractions but just cramps. I definately had contractions with my daughter so i feel like i wont know i am in labor unless i follow the same path my labor took with dd.

any thoughts?? how is everyone?

I had those pains in the groin and I don't think they are labor, just pain from all that weight. I had to go on bedrest at 35 weeks and they got much better when I wasn't walking around. If you think you're going to hang in there a while longer, see if you can find one of those support belts. I didn't use one, but many people told me it helped tremendously.

Good news! the insurance paid my $85,000 hospital bill, finally! We were sweating it for a while!

When I went into preterm labor it felt exactly like menstral cramps but stronger. If it gets stronger to a point and then fades away, it is probably labor. If it doesn't go away and is fairly consistant, it is probably the pelvis getting ready for labor.

When I was in the hospital at 34 wks after my car accident, I kept telling them, "I am having contractions." They kept brushing me off because it wouldn't show up on the monitor. Finally one time when they came back to check, they looked at the monitor and rushed out of the room (to call the doc). When they came back in, I said, "I told you so!" Trust your instincts!

I wanted to introduce myself also ( I also did on another thread).. I have been reading these twins threads like crazy, and I am getting such good info from all of you! I am 28, Dh is 30, we have two boys 7 and 4 whom we homeschool. WE had the shock of our lives back in Feb. when we learned we were having twins! We found out they are b/g, and are really excited coupled with waves of fear! I am a doula and childbirth educator, and we are having a homebirth with two wonderful midwives and a doula friend also. I love to hear the great weights on these babies! I am feeling well, but learning I can not walk very far anymore without that nasty pelvic pressure/pain. This is such a different pregnancy for me, but I am thinking positive thoughts of full term and healthy babies! Thanks for being here, I can not tell you how alone we felt at first having such a different parenting style, and then twins on top of that!

Hello. I recently had twins at home. (I think my friend XM gave y'all heads up about my story.) Yes, they were 8 pounds 3 ounces and 8 pounds 14 ounces and born at 40+ weeks. PROTEIN AND WATER!!!!!!!! Anne Fry has a good section on Twins in Holistic Midwifery.

hi everyone,

i thought i had introduced myself here, but maybe not...i am currently 26 weeks pregnant with fraternal b/b twins, and have 2.5 year old fraternal b/b twins at home. nothing like lightning striking twice eh?

my first 2 were born at 38.5 weeks and weighed 6'12" and 7'11". the predictions are that these 2 will be even bigger, and i believe it because i feel huge!!
