View Full Version : my huge uterus

I swear my uterus is at least three fingers above my pubic bone- and I am only 10 weeks tomorrow.

Is it just because this is my 3rd pregnancy? I didn't think you were supposed to feel the uterus even above your pubic bone until 12 or more weeks.

Anyone else feel thier uterus?

I can't tell where my uterus is, although I'd love to learn. I am told that you get larger faster with later pgs.

I'm on #2, and only 7 weeks along, and I definitely feel my utereus, at least a few inches. Is that weird? The fetus is supposed to be the size of a pea or small bean and then there is the amniotic fluid and yolk sac (or is it a placenta already?). So I think it makes sense for it to pop up a little.

The growing uterus is also pushing up everything else, so my belly protrudes just a little too. Or am I just eating too much?

I swear I can feel my uterus, and it's only a few inches from my belly-button, too, which seems way to soon, at least compared to last time. I've been having some "twin" thoughts, so I'm hoping my mw will tell me everything's measuring normally at my first prenatal, lol!

Megs Mom the way I first find my uterus is the way a midwife does- I put a finger or two inside my vagina and then push on the outside of my stomach- early in the pregnancy it kind of feels like there is a large orange in there that you are pushing between your fingers.

At this many weeks I can just feel it is the bump that feel like a hard muscle above my pubic bone, that you can sort of push around. It is easiest laying on your back. At your first appointment you can ask your provider to let you feel too.

goepark my belly sticks out too (I am also going to blame this on the 3rd pregnance :LOL ). Not only because the uterus is taking up some more room, but because when you get pregnant your digestive system slows way down (so it would take up more room) and your blood volume increases, and you retain water more.

Homeybee, I keep having twin thoughts too! One baby is enough for me though!

Okay, so I just tried this. I put my bum on a pillow and inserted 2 fingers in my vagina, felt up along my cervix where it got wider and then was shaped very roundish and like there was something in there.(about the size of a clementine, I'd say) I couldn't feel it from the outside though, but then with my hips on pillow, the uterus might have moved up higher than I expected. I think I will try again after my boy is asleep tonight. :D

yvonnemlv, I am glad I am not the only one who likes to feel my own uterus! :wink

I'd say to try it one more time and then wait a week or two and you should be able to feel the difference. Maybe getting closer to orange size by then!

I'm 10wks, 11 on Sunday, this is counting from conception (no u/s here or pregnancy wheel that adds 2 wks). I've been able to feel my uterus for a while. This is my 3rd pgncy and I guess my uterus already tips forward more than the average, I think the combination of the two is why it is so obvious. Unfortunately I don't have a B.S. flat belly so you can't tell I'm pregnant yet by looking at me but you can feel it standing or laying down.

Can't wait til 9-4, the 12 wk mark! I'm so ready to be out of the 1st tri. BLUCK! I'm hoping the nausea and the fatigue will lessen some. In the first two it didn't but hey there's always hope, right? lol

I don't feel anything through my lower abdomen at 12 weeks but this is my first, so maybe I won't for awhile.

Stomach sticking way out too - its ridiculous!! I look so bloated. It actually looks like it couldn't possibly stretch much more - but we all know THAT isn't true!!

When I saw my mw at 8 weeks, she said my uterus was about the size of a small grapefruit....But, this is pg #5 in all for me (all within 3 years!!) so I'm not surprised. I can now, when laying down, feel the uterus just by feeling on my abdomen, but I'm about 12 1/2 weeks along now.

Anyone have this experience? If not, it's fun to try....

If you wake up after sleeping on your back for a while (or if you just feel like laying on your back for an hour), try feeling for your uterus....it floats way up toward (or even above) your belly button! I asked my dr. about this and he said it was normal, and I remember my girlfriend and I giggling about it early in our last pregnancies. It's so goofy to feel a little grapefruit under your belly button, and then when you stand up....whooop! goes gravity and it's hiding behind your pubic bone again. It was so obvious the other day, even my husband could easily feel it. :bigeyes

Now every morning I stay in bed and poke and prod my belly....I sure hope the baby doesn't mind!

Hmm, no, that has never happened to me. Not in previous pregnancies, nor this current one. My uterus likes to go way back to my spine first before growing up, it seems. 12 weeks along and I still cannot feel it from the front by or beneath the pubic bone. In a couple weeks though! :)

My uterus tips back, so I can't even feel it unless the mw's fingers are pressing up on my cervix! This is the only way we were able to hear the heartbeat. =) Awkward, but worth it -- especially the way bf got all teary. =)

I wore a mat. shirt on Sat. just for fun, b/c I wanted to look pg. Then I realized I'm ready to go full-time mat. clothes! So much more comfy! :) Now, I just have to get my hands on some, since I gave them all away! (Headed to the TP...)
