I make dishes frequently which call for Tahini (tahina). Is it easy to find in Germany? Here in Northern CA it is easy to find. I am wondering if I should ship some to myself...or if it will be easy for me to find. I am already sending myself lots of Indian spices which I use since I do not know if there are an abundance of Indian grocery stores.
It depends a lot on where you will live. You can get most everything in bigger cities, less so in smaller towns.
Indian spices will likely be harder to get than Tahini which is available at healthfood stores pretty much everywhere. These tend to be smallish and sometimes hidden, so just ask around.

At pretty much any BIOladen you can get Tahini, Indian curry (because the German curry just isn't spicy) and a host of other 'exotic' spices. In Wurzburg I would assume there would be also a few Asian shops, Turkish shops and Greek shops. I've had a lot of luck finding Tahini and other Mediterranean exotic ingredients in Greek specialty shops.
Being from NorCal myself, I can tell you that you can find most ingredients for foods here in Germany. I can't find any reason to complain.
EXCEPTIONS:
decent tortillas, salsa, or anything Mexican or South American

Its getting easier and easier. I live in a small town in South Germany (outside of Stuttgart) and its in the foreign section of my little grocery store.
(psst, Holly, we also have Old El Paso tortillas and salsa, etc here too - course it helps to be in a largely american area)

It is really easy to make homemade salsa-
here is my recipe- I don't measure anything, just add according to taste.
Pour boiling water over tomatoes - after a few minutes the skins will come right off.
Put peeled tomatoes in blender with a small amount of finely chopped onion, some fresh cilantro (Koriander), salt, jalapenos (unfortunately I have only found pickled jalepenos, not fresh) and lemon juice. Blend et voila!- fresh salsa! It is even better afer a few hours in the fridge.
It is also easy to find pinto and black beans in Bioladen and asian food stores.
I have been experimenting with making tortillas but the results have been less than stellar. Luckily it is not hard to find tortilla chips for nachos, and stores like Galeria Kaufhof, Karstadt and Minimal usually have cheddar cheese.

If you are in a larger town with a turkish community, check out the small turkish grocery stores. You can get tahini and other more "exotic" things there and they also often have quite affordable produce.
You know, tahini is incredibly easy to make. All you need are sesame seeds, sesame oil, and a clean coffee grinder (or another way to grind the seeds).

There you go: http://www.rapunzel.de/index.php?plink=produkt&fs=&alink=p_brotaufstriche&rid=Weisses+Tahin+%28Sesammus%29
Rapunzel can be found at any larger organic supermarket in Germany like Basic or Alnatura as well as in almost any smaller organic store. Other than that most are quite willing to order it for you if you kindly ask for it. Most health food stores like 'Vitalia' carry it as well from a company called 'neuform'.
In addition to that I boomarked several organic delivery services who carry tahini as well. Or I could PS it to you. :lol
BTW I am in Munich :)

You should be able to find it in any Reformhaus or well-assorted supermarket.
