:wave Hi all, I thought I'd start a thread about slings since I saw celestra had asked about them.
I will start off with I don't have any kids yet, but sewed a couple maya slings and used them for a 6 month old that I was babysitting and it worked well. I haven't nursed in one so if you have a sling you love to nurse in let us new to being mama's now your wisdom. :wink
Here is the site to make your own sling. Maya Sling (http://www.mayawrap.com/n_sewsling.php)
I ordered sling rings from a lady on-line, but have also seen them in some hardware stores.
:Thanks Cathy

I like the Kangaroo Korner pouch. I have the fleece and cotton versions. BUt I think for the new little one I may try a wrap, like the Moby wrap, they look snug and secure, so that I can comfortably chase my toddler around. Oh, I guess she'll be a preschooler by then! Ah!

I LOVE my Pea in a Pod pouch and think it will be amazing with a newborn. I also have an Ergo carrier that I use a lot with ds. A friend has one and has been using their infant insert and really likes that. She's going to loan me the insert when I need it :)

I really liked a ring sling for the first year or so (ie. maya wrap, sling me mommy, taylor made slings). I make mine a little longer and then the tail is a perfect cover up while nursing. One of my favorite features of a sling is that it keeps strangers at bay a little more. Not that it will stop everyone, but it cuts down on peolple touching & breathing on my precious new baby!
But Now that you mention it this might be a great excuse to try one of those moby wraps. I've always thought they were so cute. And yes, with a bigger babe I LOVE the ergo. We went on vacation to DC & couldn't have survived without it.

With my first, I LOVED my Nojo sling. With my second, I was heavier, as was my bust. I found the sling hurt my back and used a front carrier~but it also hurt my back. With my third (my high needs baby), I started with the Over the Shoulder Baby Holder. When he could sit up we used a backpack. He loved it sooo much that it was his first word! LOL! And he was literally in it 24/7. It was the only thing that allowed me to get anything done, and with him on my back I could wash dishes and cook dinner just fine! (((((HUGS))))) sandi

I Have seen both the Moby and the Kozy up close. I like them both. But I have heard that slinging a newborn is hard. Of course, I guess that everything is hard. :LOL I am leaningin the direction of one of those....

I like having the baby snug to me, so I haven't tried a pouch, only used ring slings, and of those I've used a Maya and a OTSBH. The OTSBH was easier for me to learn to use, more comfortable on my shoulder, and the padding made it more comfortable for the baby in the hip position. I used my until the fabric became so worn that rips appeared after washing (about two years.) Then I made my own, using the OTSBH as a rough pattern for how to do the shoulder padding (I would have never figured that out on my own, lol,) but I didn't put in the side padding because I wanted the tail loose so I could adjust top and bottom sides and also use it as a blanket if need be. I love being able to do that, but next time I make a sling I'm going to put in side padding up to a certain point. It's so much more comfortable for the baby.

I loved the Maya ring sling from when ds was about 3months, really comfy & great for breastfeeding. We had a new native pouch when he was newborn. This time I want to try a hug-a-bub or a moby or maybe one of the hotslings pouches.

With my dd, I used a fleece pocket sling from Kangaroo Korner when she was a newborn. We didn't use a sling again until she was about 8 months, then we bought a Maya wrap. I :love our maya wrap! I still wear her in it all the time (although I'm guessing when I start to show I won't be anymore :( ) I am really excited to use our Maya wrap with the newbie :D Maya wraps are so versatile, easy to nurse in, and comfortable. The only drawback is they take a little bit of practice (that's where the video that comes with them comes in handy!).

i had bought a hot sling for my DD when i had her we used it a few times i got it i think when she was like 6mos old maybe. I really liked it but i never did feel too comfortable carrying her around in it.
I think it was just mostly user error. This time i'd like something more like a wrap since my dd will be 2 when i have the next one, i don't know we'll see.
I think the kozy was what i was wanting before.

I have a large collection of slings and right now my favorite is The Sling Set. I think it would be great for a newborn. The material is so soft and fuzzy. I love my KKAFP but I have a feeling it will be too warm to wear in the spring (I live in GA). I like pouches for the newborn phase the most. Easy in and easy out. My dh loves the Kozy. I originally bought it for me, but I never get to wear it. For this baby, I really want a silk Zolowear but I don't thik I can convince dh to spend that much on one sling!
