I just called my midwife and I can't get an appointment until I am 11 weeks, does this seem a little late for a 1st appointment? How many weeks will you all be for yours?
I'm really only worried about my rhesus antibody check as I am RH-

I was sooo excited that I contacted my midwife right away! She said since this is baby #4, usually people don't wanna go in starting at four weeks, so I could wait. I asked how long, and she said when I'm ready. Well *I'm* ready! LOL! but I guess I'll wait. Maybe I'll schedule for October??? (((((HUGS))))) sandi

I actually had an appt the same day I tested. However... it was because this is an oops baby, and the main pt of the appt was to confirm that I am pg and to schedule an u/s to try to figure out a little better how far along I am. I think my next prenatal appt is the 11th of Sept (at which point I think I would be ~8-9 weeks?).

Carrie, did you mention to them about the Rh- issue? How many weeks are you now?
I've been hearing from a lot of people that they won't be seen until then. It's going to be weird for me when I transfer from the infertility place to a regular practice because the frequency of monitoring will go WAY down.
Could you see your PCP in the meanwhile? Don't some family doctors follow pregnancies as well?
Sorry, not much help, but I certainly understand your frustration! :hug

Celeste I think I will call back, I didn't think about me being RH- until after! I'm only 5 weeks now

I'm Rh-, too... I don't recall having an antibody check until I was much further along, though (like after 25 wks). I don't think it's an issue this early unless there's any bleeding.
To be honest, unless you have a history/risk of problems in early pregnancy (like pregnancy loss), there's really not much that you need to "do" in early pregnancy, other than discuss/decide on any prental testing (which tends to happen at or after 11 wks).

I'm not planning to see my mw until 12+ weeks but I'm sure she'd see my whenever. However, I've been told that the local docs around here only see women pg with their 2nd (or more) child after 12 weeks.

11 weeks that's normal.
My first midwife apointment is sept 9th so I'll be 9 weeks (or 8weeks and some days).

When DS (my first babe), I wasnt' seen until 9 weeks - I was so anxious to have an appt, I was actually bummed that I had to wait about a month from when I had the + HPT.
So, when I called my CN Midwife last week to schedule an appt, I was surprised that I am going tomorrow (Tues the 16th) when I'll be about 6 weeks. Not sure if its because I'm not perceived as an older preggo woman (I"m 36) but I guess I'll find out tomorrow.
I do think the 9 weeks or more is pretty normal.
Cheers,

Probably about 7 weeks. I need to have an ultrasound and some monitoring for the progesterone I am on.
But until I get home and find a doc...I have no idea when it will be. :)

My first appt is tomorrow, at about 6w 3d.
I think 11 weeks is late, IMO. I'd try to talk them into seeing you sooner.
A lot of practitioners like to wait until you've missed 2 periods before they see you, but I think it's important to touch base with your care provider earlier than that.

Around here, your first appointment is when you make it, regardless of the pregnancy number. I'll be 4w6d for my first appointment (this Friday). I'm probably going to schedule an ultrasound to see the little heart beating and then weight checks for the first six months. After that, we'll talk about birthplans. :thumb :LOL

I called my family practice dr. and they don't have first OB appt until 10-12 weeks unless you have any problems. I'm 40 and they said that didn't make a difference. My friend's OB told her she had to go in by 8 weeks for an ultra sound since she was over 35.

My first appt. is Sept 2. I think I will be about 8 or 9 weks by then. But with both my boys I was seen right away.

I don't think 11 weeks is to late. I am not even planning on making any appts until much later. Right now I am prob 4-6 weeks and will eventually get around to interviewing the two HB midwives I am looking at using. :) I just want to GIP!

I won't be seen till 12-16 weeks, depending on how lazy I am. I will make an appointment with them to hammer out financial details in the next couple weeks though and to meet them to make sure they're going to work for us.
But - what's up with the Rh antibody test? I'm negative, and I figured the two rhogam shots I got with my son would have covered that. Should I worry? I wasn't planning on any testing except the damned NY AIDS test with this one.

imo, 11 weeks isn't *that* late. (i don't even know who i'm going to use for my practitioner yet.) i'm not freaking though--i only just tested positive a couple days ago, and i know they won't see me for at least a month.

wait, i'm rh- too--i had the shot at 28 weeks last time and after ds's birth. will i need another shot in the first tri this time?
KKmama
08-18-2005, 09:56 AM
No, you don't need a shot early, and you don't need testing in the 1st tri unless you have preterm bleeding. IIRC, for me they did the test around when I got the shot (~26 or 28 wks).

With my first baby they wouldn't fit me in for an appointment until I was at least 9 weeks. With this new doctor, they wanted me in ASAP. I go in tomorrow (I'll be 6 weeks). Honestly, I was a bit surprised they wanted me in so early.

With this pg I will be seeing my OB at first -- about the 8.5 week mark (I did have an app't at the 6 week mark, but had to reschedule). I will officially transfer into midwifery care about halfway through the pg, but I can go in and see my m/ws pretty much anytime I would like before that. With my last pg, I actually went in to my m/ws on the very day I got my bfp. I think it is nice to get started early -- you have support and answers, besides I just love my m/ws, so I like to get in asap! :wink

My midwife wants me in for the antibody check asap so I'll get that done next week and then see her again at 11weeks. KKMama thanks for the advice, I think our system here must be different as I was checked early in my pregnancy with ds too.

My doctor doesn't see pg clients until they are about 10 weeks. I go on Sept. 8th for blood work and history and insurance stuff and then I go on the 21st and actually see the doc for the first time.
ETA: right now, I am calculating that I am about 7 weeks.

my first appointment is 9-6 that is to just confirm my pregnancy and then set up maybe the rest of my initial appointments.
but with my DD i didn't get seen until I was 11wks along, so it's pretty normal I think

This thread reminded me, so I just called the birth center to make my 1st appointment. Their first opening is October 3rd! I'll be almost 12 weeks at that point. But they said that b/c my RE is following me for now, it shouldn't be a problem. It's probably going to be 4 weeks between when the RE sends me on my way and the midwife sees me!
I have to say, it's cool to project into this pregnancy. It's a contrast to the frequent tests, etc, that keep me so trapped in being scared.

It is cool to start planning...and neccessary...and freaky all at the same time. I had stopped planning my life around the possibility of getting pregnant, and now I have to think about all this stuff. And part of me is just superstitious enough to be really freaked out about planning for this baby. Maybe when I am obviously pregnant I won't be so freaked out. :LOL
My first appt will be on Sept 2nd. I will just be 7 weeks then. Man, I can't wait until October.

ITA - I feel like I'm just holding my breath until October gets here. We plan to tell our families around that time. I just need to pass the 12 week mark and hopefully be feeling some obvious signs of growth and I think I'll feel a lot more at ease.
