We are in Pasadena, Tx. (just south of Houston). Interested in finding other like minded families to meet and interact with.
I guess all I can do is list some "facts" about us, but they shouldn't be taken to exclude other facets or demand agreement in all cases:)
We are a home birthing, non-vaxing, unschooling, vegetarian, Libertarian, co-sleeping with babies/toddlers family. (sorry, can't come up with any more -ings off the top of my head, lol!)
I'm a SAH mom(in the sense that DH works conventioanl hrs and I don't;) I do a paper route, so am home before he leaves for work, so technically, I DO work outside the home, but you know;)
Started a homeschool group several mths back, but seems to sort of be in limbo; I am looking for social outings/companionship, and many seem to be seeking a more structured sort of thing. But I hear it takes a while to get such things really up and going, so...
We lived for 6 yrs in Austin, 8 yrs in Portland, Or, and moved back here almost 2 yrs ago for family/pers. reasons. We plan to eventually make it back up to the NW for good.
Feel free to write me!! 1raven@ev1.net

Awww, Kimberly! I am in Katy way over in the west of town. There are pretty much no APers out here. You can subscribe to the API of Houston email list, maybe there is someone in Pasadena. LOL, I'd give a few years off my life to find an APer close to me!

Aww, come on; I KNOW there are some of you out there (closer to home) :) Sigh; guess I might just have to resign myself to waiting until we move back to Portland after all:)
Of course, we have old friends in Austin still, and I enjoy the company of some I have met through the homeschool gropu I initiated, but more often than not, I am just a "freak" round these parts;)
Thanks for the moral support! Kimberly

Kimberly, I know just what you mean about being a freak. I don't dare tell people here that I don't vaccinate my kids. They think I am weird for not eating meat. They think I am nuts for not wanting to use the "wonderful" Katy school system. People look at my BabyTrekker like it is the oddest thing. I'd give a few years off my life to have another APer really close by! I would loooove to move to the NW. We almost moved to Portland last year but dh's company lost the contract with Int'l Paper. I am still begging though!
We lived in Clear Lake 2 years ago too.

Yeah~~~~how have I missed this post????
I live in NW Houston!!!!:) Extremely dislike it here! My friends think of me as the weird one.....though they accept me!
Raven1....I lived in Austin for 4 years and desperately hoping to move back there this summer!
I'd love to talk to you, especially about homeschooling! My ds#1 is just turning 4 and I'm really starting to look into unschooling.
I also have another ds he is 16 months!
Please write back!!!!
I'm so excited..............:thumb

Missgrl, small world after all, I guess;)
I posted my email; please feel free to write me there if you want. Maybe you could come with us on one of our outings sometime(we do stuff here in Pasadena (town motto, "What's that funny smell?"LOL!) but also go to the zoo, museums, other stuff in "TOWN" proper:) from time to time. I REALLY would love to hook up with other UNschoolers (as opposed to homeSCHOOLERS; there's a great group up your way called HUG, but the travel time was a bit much for us:(
We just got back to Austin late last summer for the first time in a coon's age, and MAN, it has changed!! The house we lived in for 4 yrs was torn down and a fourplex was under construction. (But the white oak we planted on the west side was still there and taller than the house:) Ben White is now a freeway. Urban sprawl has hit. Our friends are barely able to afford to live there anymore, etc. But it's still a great place; something in the atmosphere:)
It took me 7 yrs to talk DH into moving to the NW. Finally got him up to Portland on vacation, and he was sold. Then I got pg (immediately upon our return) and we decided we'd better go for it or end up staying in Tx for the next 18 yrs;) We want to find some land/build a house somewhere between the coast and the Cascades(perhaps further south than we were). If it were up to me, I would live out in the boonies, but I'm thinking at least near or in some smaller town due to the kids; want them to have at least a few others fairly nearby to pal around with. Sometime in the next few yrs., we plan to be in a position to get back up there.
ANYWAY, please write me. I would love to meet you and do some stuff. I can put you on the list for HIP (the hs group I "started" and am sort of half way trying to keep going;)

Hey there!
I just saw your post. We live in Pearland, so we're close. I'm a sahm to Riley Jane, who is almost 7 months old. We're a cosleeping, non vaxing family too. Didn't do a homebirth because she was a preemie (born at 29 weeks) and I had to have an emergency Csection :( NOT the original plan.
Anyway, I don't know how much fun we're going to be for a while. We're keeping her home alot til after flu season, but sometime around summer, I'd love to meet and maybe do some little outings.
We live on an acre in Pearland and have 2 dogs and a cat and love to be outside. We're not vegetarians exactly (I was pretty close til dh came along, but have picked up lots of bad habits :) ) But we are into healthy, organic eating. I keep hoping they'll open up a whole foods down here! But I do have a friend who has an organic garden, so I"m hooked up :)

Hi all!
I live in Northwest Houston, Copperfield area if anyone is familiar with that. Not too far from Katy. I am 23 and not a mommy yet (still single and living at home, actually!) but I love to be around children and mommies and I babysit a lot. I am very interested in AP and homeschooling, vegetarianism and organic eating and living, etc. I don't have any kids for your kids to play with but I would love to meet some of you and hang out! I love to discuss AP issues and find it hard to find like-minded folks around here, although I do have one friend with a one-year-old dd who is pretty similar to me. Anyway, if anyone wants to get together let me know!

Wow!
I grew up in Missouri City, but I felt like such a misfit out there that I left!
I'm living in New Zealand now, and I don't exactly "fit in" even here, but I can at least do the whole home-birthing, unschooling, cloth-diapering, line-drying, custom-vaxing thing without major conflicts over it :-) I highly recommend it for crunchy-moms <heh>
Y'all are making me feel like maybe I moved too soon!

Hey, MsCheetah, I'm in Missouri City!!!
I wish I was in New Zealand!!!!!!!!!!!!! :crying
Missouri City is NOT the place for AP'ing moms, let alone liberal leftie ones. :sigh
