I just had my 2nd cesarean, my 1st was unecessary, but this one was necessary eventhough we had tried for a homebirth. We are not sure if we are done having children, but my OB said it would be very risky if we had to have another cesarean however my midwife has done several VBA2C & said she'd be more than willing to work with us again if we decided to have another down the road. I'm just worried because I do not want to go throught the whole cesarean thing again, but I'm not sure that I want to quit having children either. Anyone have some good info or stories?

Hi SunnyBaby,
I am sorry that your 2nd childs birth didn't go as planned, but it sounds like you have a wonderfully supportive midwife to help you with future plans.
I personally haven't had 2 cesareans, but wanted to share this website with you: http://www.plus-size-pregnancy.org/..._after_2_cs.htm Maybe it will offer some valuable information?
You might also want to look into joining the ICAN email support group because I know there are women there who have had VBA2Cs. It can be found by searching for ICAN-Online on Yahoo Groups.
Good luck!

I'm currently 35 weeks pregnant and planning a vba3c at an AWESOME birth center, with an amazing midwife...She was very hesitant to take me on for the birth, though she was more than willing to do my prenatal care and support my decision at home or in a hospital, for legal reasons/liabilities. What she has told me is that statistically, there is almost no change at all in the rupture rates or safety of vbac and vba2c. It's only after the 3rd c/s that you see increased risk, because that apparently is the point at which, for many, the cut-and-stitched scar starts to be weakened.
Even still, obviously, after much soul searching and research, we've decided natural birth is right for us. Anyway, I just wanted you to know that from what I've heard, the rates for 1 and 2 c/s are .5-2% risk of rupture, based on what study you look at, whereas for 3+, it's more like 4-5% risk, again, based on what study you look at. ALl of those rates take hospital birth into account, though, where you are much more likely to rupture due to induction and augmentation drugs (and myriad other interventions). Rates are lower, though not as carefully documented, when you only look at spontaneously occuring and progressing labor.
