Are there any Orlando area mommies that would be interested in getting together for a playgroup or something? I moved here in May and have yet to make any real friends. Dd is very social but she's missing out with not having any playmates and now with ds here, she's in dire need of a playmate.

I'm in the 192/27 area but we are willing to drive a reasonable distance if necessary.

Please post here if you are interested.

Orlando isn't the friendliest place I've ever lived. My dd is 8 years old and my son is due 1/24/03,so playgroup might not work but I could use a friend. I can't drive though, which makes living in this area absolute hell. We live on the east side, over near UCF. PM me if you want.:hippie

Hi! I just emailed you EdenAurora. We live just a hop skip and jump away from you! My son misses playmates too! It seems that most of the MDC mothers that are here are well spread out.
I was hoping that when we get into a house it'd be closer to a bus line. That was our main source of getting around when dh worked in Minneapolis(Mpls). We're actually looking at houses in Clermont or there abouts. Are you in an apartment or house right now? We've got a 7mo lease in our apartment so we could take time to get into a house.
I totally can't wait to meet you! My numbers are again 407-390-1356 (home) and 407-758-1809 (cell/weekend) But as a warning or cell phone battery has completely given up on us so we're getting a new phone and service provider (att - unlimited anyrime minutes) we decided that as long as we're paying upto 125/mo for a cell phone we might as well have it unlimited usage!!

sorry for babbling again I'm really happy that you're around. Not too many ebf/cosleep/gentle-discipline/happy with thier children moms here!

hope to see you soon! Lizzie

Hey Liz, I live in St. Cloud. Small world, huh? I have never met anyone from MDC, what do you think about getting together? Did you ever meet EdenAurora?

i've already spoken in a pm, but thought i'd post here : )

I live in winter garden, in between clermont and orlando. I attend a wonderful LLL group but I'm only really close to one lady, my doula and LLL leader, but she doesn't hve children under the age of 9.

My son is 4 months old and im 20 and a single mama. i live at home w my mom and 10 yr old sister. it's hard to find people that share my parenting styles, have youg children, and see me as an equal despite my age. I'm so excited there are mdc people so close to me! I was telling edenaurora that we should go to wesr oaks mall and walk around w slings (those who have kids young enough to use 'em) and nursing our kids (again, if they're still usin them!)

Hey Blessed, which LLL group do you go to? The leader of the Kissimmee group moved to Gainsville about 6 months ago, and I haven't found a new group yet. I'm all the way over in St Cloud, would your group be too far for me to drive? I really miss hanging out with nursing moms. Especially now that DS is older (21 months)

I think some ppl that were in the kissimee group come to my group now?

We usually meet at a church in the apopka/windermere area.

I'm not really sure how far away that is for you (im so bad at directions!) anyway, we have a yahoo group you can either look up or i can send the link to you if you'd like. we'd love to have you!

here's an odd question - what's LLL all about? I never had a good connection from the time my son was 2wks old. My son has acid refulx and at the time of his birth it was severe! The LLL rep. tried to convince me I had too much milk and that was what was causing the vomiting and resulting apnea. It really made me mad so I never tried to investigate what LLL was about from that point. But being "new" here and our new one arriving in May it would be nice to have a group to go to this time to share angst and joy with. I'm still bf my 2.5yr old son, so I'm probably going to need support in the tandem nursing arena! I just haven't the heart to wean him at this point. anyway sorry for being long winded and all over the place today - it's one of those all over days for me.

e.rishavy,
I'm so sorry you had a negative experience with LLL. I've heard others that have had bad experiencees with it as well. However, I've had nothing but wonderufl come from this group! The first time I went was 2 days before I went into labor with Noah (my first and only so far). I was so glad that I went before he was born because athough I didn't really get to know anyone there, I knew that if I had problems I'd feel more comfortable since I had met the leaders. I did end up having a minor problem. It turns out that I have inverted nipples. I had no idea though because I thought inverted nipples meant that your nipples were like tucked in all the time. I didn't know that they looked normal except thaey didn't come out when you squeezed 'em, lol. So the second day, Noah could not get the right one to come out. It was so friustrating and I was so flustered by it all. I called one of the LLL leaders and she was able to give me some helpful suggestions. More so, they were reassuring.

Then my son had a problem with reflux. He just spewed everything all day all over! I contacted one of the leaders again and she said her daughter had the same problem only it was worse than what Noah had. She gave me some advice and again it helped immensly. The best part about it all was that they never just gave me tips and then left me alone to deal with it. They always contacted me later and never gave up helping until the problem was solved. One lady even came over to my house a couple times to help!

Anyway, my point is that there are so many WONDERFUL women working with LLL. I met my back-up doula there also (who ended up teaming up with my other doula...it was 4 hours long...I needed more than one! lol). I always feel so at hoe when I go to the meetings and I've never met a more nurturing and caring group of women. Besides the monthly meetings on breastfeeding we have, there are also monthly meetings called Enrichment meetings. These are on topics relating to us and our children but not about breastfeeding. Some of the ones we've had were Signing with your Baby, and Nutrition.

I know this is long, but I feel so strongly about the benefits of this group! If you don't have one closer to you than this one, I would say it's definitely worth the drive...even if you don't come every other week (like if you just came to the regular meetings and no enrichment meetings, or the other way around).

If you have ANY other question and/or if you want the link to join this LLL group's yahoo list, just ask!

if you want to email me, my addy is blessed81902@hotmail.com

There are a couple I'm in (and more I know of):

groups.yahoo.com/group/orlandopeacefulparents

groups.yahoo.com/group/orlando-healthy-parenting

And I want to mention that I have a boy who is your son's age. I would LOVE to meet up!!! I also have a 9 month old baby girl. I'm starting a playgroup for 3 to 5 year olds (and their siblings) that will be meeting in Winter Park every other Tuesday if you're interested. :)
