DH and I went to a neighborhood party with DD last night. Our neighborhood is kind of older- most people are retired or at least have grown kids. They seem to be conservative & traditional and very mainstream (read: older Yuppies), but we don't know any of them. Anyway, I finally met the woman who moved in next door a year ago (in her late 60's, no kids, just married for the 1st time last year!), and also another woman who moved in down the street (mid 40's, 3 kids, going through divorce) just last week. The 3 of us were talking together and, of course, the subject of my pregnancy came up. My next-door neighbor was delighted to hear that I was seeing a midwife and asked if I was seeing "so and so", who is right here in town. I said no, that the closest HB midwife I was able to find was about an hour away. She was surprised and said, "Oh, you should talk with her. She is a wonderful midwife and worked with my niece. I will get you her number- we're good friends." SHOCK! What?! You aren't going to tell me how "dangerous" HB is? That I'm crazy for seeing a midwife instead of a "professional"?!?! The other woman chimed in and said that she has a good friend who is Native American, and that she would ask her about rituals and ceremonies to bless our home before the baby comes. I couldn't believe it! It was all I could do not to start bawling in my hyper-hormonal pregnancy delirium! There are wonderful, open-minded people out there!!! :bouncy Just wanted to share. :)
