after my son was born i bled quite a lot. my midwife gave me a short of pitocin.. and i suppose it was necessary ( she is a very hands off, non medical oriented midwife).. i didnt actually see the blood gushing out since i was totally engaged with my newly born baby, but aparently there was a lot..

so this time, id like to try homeopethic remedies or herbs first, before we go with the conventional med's.. if it is necessary at all..

so what is good to have on hand for this kind of situation?

I didn't have a fast hemorrhage like you're describing, but I did have abnormal bleeding w/ my first 2. I bled like a regular flow period for a full 6 weeks or so w/ both of them and was really anemic. I already bought some shepherds purse to make tea after the babe is born. I'm also not opposed to sampling my placenta to see if that halps. I haven't mentioned it to my mw or dh yet, though. :LOL I'm not sure what they'd think. ROFL!

You need to really be careful about which homeopathic remedy you take, because depending on the cause of the bleeding (I know you're bleeding after birth, but there may be an underlying reason why it's so heavy) if you take the wrong remedy, it could make it worse. I wouldn't take something unless you were certain it was the right one for you, in some cases these things aren't begnign. Take it from someone who almost bled to death after taking the wrong remedy!!!!!!

I used shepherds purse after Isaac was born (took the first dose when he was about 8 hours old- completely forgot I had it) and it did make me feel much better. I'm planning on using it again, or at least having it to hand just in case.
You NEED a tincture, though, instructing someone else on how to make an infusion with a newborn baby and heavy blood loss can be quite frustrating.

Just chiming in to offer the Placenta option... as in eating a small amount of it.
