I have surfed through some of the older posts here and have decided to go through with the GBS testing. I tested negative with DS#1, but I know that doesn't guarantee me to do the same with this babe. Could I do a hibiclens wash prior to the test? What about garlic vaginally? Could someone repost one of their regiments for me? I don't want to "mask" something or make it just not be there for the test if I really do have it. I am so torn on this.

I saw a thread where someone's midwife (if I'm remembering this correctly) recommends taking pro-biotics.

(I was negative for dc#1, and positive for dc#2 . . .)

Good luck!

i was going to do the internal garlic treatment before my gbs test but i chickened out at the last minute... but i tested neg anyway (after my prior positive with ds).

the garlic should treat the gbs and not just mask it so it is worth a try.

There was a thread last month, I think, in the Birth and Beyond forum. The title of the thread was something like preventing GBS, so try a search of GBS titles in the Birth and Beyond Forum. This is something I am watching too as I have births under 4 hours so there is no time for the recomended treatment.

GBS is Group B Strep infection. The kindly doc or midwife graciously swabs your vagina (like a throat culture gone wrong) and if you're lucky, also your anus! Eek! Nah, it wasn't too bad. The reason is, GBS can cause a serious and sometimes lethal infection in babies. If a woman tests positive for it, the standard protocol is two doses of IV antibiotics during labor.

It's very common to test positive for GBS. I am not sure exactly why people decline this test, so if you're wondering about that you might want to run the search.
