I've never done anything like that before, and let me just say, it's freaky!

As per the directions in this thread: http://www.mothering.com/discussions/showthread.php?t=334933 I took a peice of my hair and my wedding ring (since a pencil with an eraser is almost nonexistent in this house. :)) and hung it over my right wrist. It spun in circles for a few minutes, and a very faint vertical motion started. Then, I moved it to my belly, and it moved so hard side to side, it looked like the baby was kicking it! Back over my wrist- same thing. Back over my belly, Holy crap, side to side! So, according to the pendulum test, I"m having a girl. I'm still getting boy vibes. Maybe I'll have a tomboy? :LOL

Anyone else wanna play?

Hmmm....that's interesting because my MIL (who is from PA) says circle is a girl and back and forth is a boy, so that would mean you are having a boy if you go by her. It was right with all four of mine :)

Well, the pendulum says it's another girl for me, which is what I've been predicting, too. In fact, it just keeps on saying girl....no boys for us!

Whoa! For a minute there I was really freaked out because every time it was over my wrist (I did the wedding ring and hair version too) it would go in circles and every time it was over my tummy it would go up and down. I did that a few times and it was always the same way. But then I switched hands and tried it with my left hand instead of my right and it still went in circles over my wrist but it did back and forth over my tummy, so who knows? It was kind of fun to try though!

Well, I googled it, and I couldn't find a variety of sources, but the ones I did have all said the same thing as your MIL. But they said it would move in a circular direction for a girl. Hmm....

Oh I wanna play..it counts miscarriages as well right..just so I know.

Hmm I am sure I must have a thread and needle around somewhere but we moved months ago and its still packed. I might be able to dig up a pencil.
I would use my hair but its much too short I think and yikes I would have to pull it out.
Will be back with results once I find something to use..could be a few days :bouncy

I tried this with the hair and the wedding ring. It swung forward and back which seems to indicate a boy, but I'm not sure since there are conflicting sources :) My gut still says very strongly that it's a boy so we'll go with that.

Pendulums (no matter what they are made of) can work in different ways for different people. The best way to really see what it is for YOU would be to try it on someone who already HAS kids.. then you can figure out which way is what for you! But it's side to side = girl and up and down = boy for me.
But whenever you use a new pendulum, for psychic kind of stuff, you always ask it to show you yes, and show you no.. I suppose you could try without holding it over anything to show you girl/boy and see what happens!
Good luck!

What else can you use besides a wedding ring? I"m not sure if mine would work because the rings actually belong to my parents, so I'd rather use something elseand I don't own a pendulum or a medallion on a chain ;) I found a page witha bunch of Old Wives Tales about gender too which was fun :) I'd love to do the Drano test, I've heard a couple versions of it.

To the OP: I still think you're having a boy :)

Pretty much anything can be turned into a pendulum.. so any ring would work, you can use thread or hair. The pencil with the needle in the eraser is just another form of pendulum.

So I gave the pendulum test a try, even though I've had spotty luck with pendulums in the past. I held it over my wrist, it made slow, counterclockwise circles. I held it over my belly. Slow, counterclockwise circles. I held it over the desk and asked it to show me a boy; it went back and forth. I asked it to show me a girl and it made slow, counterclockwise circles....
So it's telling me the baby's a girl... wonder about all those boy vibes I've been getting. Guess we'll see!!! :wink

Okay I finally did it will my engagement ring and floss :LOL
I held it over the arm of my chair and asked for boy got back and forth lines and girl small circles.
When I held it over my belly it said Girl...course I would like to try it again as my son spotted it and came running so I had to stop and hide it from him.

To be honest it freaked me out a bit someone rassure me that I won't have eveil sprits in my place now by doing this. I have a crazy overactive imagination and since we have moved here sometimes get bad vibes and DF goes away overnight every so often.

I am a bit surprised it said girl and I am 98% sure its a boy guess we will find out at the birth.

That second link wasn't the one I thought it was! There is one on the web (or used to be) where it changed every time you did it--it was hilarious! Personally, I'm 3 for 3 going on gut reaction!

well i did the pendulum first, it was swinging so hard for boy i thought i must unconsciously be moving.. so i had huby watch my hand for me.. i wasnt moving!

both the other links said boy as well

my gut instinct has been boy all along, so much so we havent even bothered with girl names yet :P I've been 100% with gut instinct so far ... imagine my shock if a girl comes out :nut

So I tried those links, Raisingarrows, thanks, they are fun!

The first one said 57% chance of having a girl (I guess before it was 50%, right? :wink ) The second calender one said girl for me and dh conceiving any time between June 2004 and Oct 2006 :bigeyes ! Interesting...
Anyway, the pendulum had told me girl, too. Who knows!

BTW, ScotiaSky, my understanding of how the pendulum works is that it is just a way for us humans to get a little peak into the energy that's out there, the universal consciousness if you will, so no need to worry about evil spirits!!

Okay, everything is still pointing to a girl.....so, I'm goig to be very surprised if this is a boy!!

ScotiaSky

First one says 73% girl
Second one says boy..the second one was correct with the gender of our first born a boy.
I also think that the Chinese Gender Chart said Boy for him and girl for this one so its all over the place with me.

ashcox

Those two links were both saying girl for me as was one of the chinese calendars I looked at, but the pendulum said boy for me today. I asked it to show me boy and girl this time and it distinctly did, and then I held it over my tummy and asked which the baby was and it said boy. And I'm starting to sort of feel like this might be a boy, but I just don't really know. I knew for sure with my daughter but I'm not feeling it as strongly with this one. If we do an u/s here pretty soon then we'll know before the birth but I guess if we wait too much longer then we'll just wait til the birth to know! It's fun to do these tests though.

I gotta say it worked for me.Way back before I even got married it said I would have two boys and agirl.I just had an U/S today that looked pretty girlie too us all. :wink

wow, incredibly accurate!

Pendulum has always said girl, boy, girl for me (and DH) - since looong before we even thought about making babies! - because of this my gut has said it's a girl from before I was pregnant. We hadn't even talked about boy names at all!

Both of those links say it's a girl!

and the ultrasound says it's a girl!

I guess it's a girl!!

Now, if only there were little tests to figure out the due date!! ;)

Hi there,

We are ttc, and I am very excited about another sweet baby, but the thoughts of a baby girl get me giddy! I did the second site, it said girl as well as the chinese gender calendar... so we'll see (if this is even our lucky month :wink) I am wondering if any one has heard any other "advise" on how to conceive a certain gender?

Joy, do a google search on "Shettles method". You should find some info that way. Of course, there isn't anything except genetic manipulation that can come close to a guarantee. But, at least in can increase your odds.

usually going in a circle means it's 'thinking' .. sometimes it will do that for a while, then start to move side to side or up and down.. i'm gonna check out babyman..

MamaTaraX

Thinking??? Ugh. It was "thinking" when I ask it to show that I'm a girl. I did it over the baby nd it only made a circle. Circle, circle, circle. Maybe baby and I are just confused ;)

ETA: Did we ever come to a consensus about which direction of swinging means which gender? Maybe I'm just doing it wrong....

A friend of my sisters did this to us way before we were pregnant and I have done it to a number of people who already have children. This is what we did:

You can use any string, it doesn't have to be hair.
You can use any metal object, any ring, needle, etc....
Hang the object over your wrist, be very still. Allow the object to move on it's own.
It should begin moving in a circle. This is not a gender. The object will circle between each child it lists.
For me the pattern is as follows: circle, accross (my daughter), circle, up an down (my current pregnancy, which is a boy), circle, and accross again (a future daughter). Then the object stops moving on it's own.

So far this pattern has been correct for me. It also says the same thing for my husband!!!! It comes out correct for my mom, and a few others I have done that are finished with their families. It's amazing!!! Try it like this and see if it comes out correctly for you.

Side note- This did not work correctly on me when someone else held the string when I was pregnant the first time, so if you are pregnant hold the string yourself. Between pregnancies anyone can do it and it will work. It's strange, but true!!!!!!!!!!!!!
