What are the best cloths out there?? I want to fully cloth this one (Emma I clothes for about 5 months, but I just had the ones you pinned, and didn't care for them) but have NO idea which ones are better than the others, and prices, and such.

Me again :LOL
I use Bumkins AIO's or Bummis with a prefold. Those are my faves. Not sure what else I'll try this time *rubbing hands together in anticipation* I get to buy new dipes!!
I really like the Rouser's Trousers dipes but I've only gotten one thus far. They're so soft!!

Cool, thanks, Cheryl!! I just don't know where to start, so now I will go check those out! My girlfriend is going to be giving me all of her cloth dipes too, not sure which ones they are, but excited nun-the-less!! :LOL

I'm glad to see this thread. I'm planning on CDing this time too and I don't really know where to start. I'm also excited to start building up my stash! I used sposies with ds. Any info and advice is welcome!

I've been researching and researching this. I've got a decent amount of catalogs so I've been scanning prices and such. I think I just might order one of each of my top 3 picks and see which ones I like the best. So many yummy designs!

Go check out Green Mountian Diapers, they really go into detail about the different kinds of diapers, which was very helpful!!!

I want to CD this baby, too. I've been reading, and reading, and reading about all the fabulous WAHM dipes. But, everyone seems to love, love, love something different. You almost have to buy one of each and see how they are in action.
I tried prefolds on Peyton... and I don't think I did it right. I need some AIO's or prefitteds. Diapering for dummies!

LOL! That's me too. Luckily since we have all the other baby stuff we need (except clothes if it's a girl) I think we can invest in the pricier AIOs and pocket dipes. Do you have to use separate covers with the pocket dipes. I didn't think you did, but I'm not sure.

:shy Hi! I'm a diapering Mama, lurking here since I'm only 5 days post ovulation.
Do you have to use separate covers with the pocket dipes. I didn't think you did, but I'm not sure.
You don't need an extra cover if you buy the typical pocket dipe, Fuzzi Bunz, Wonderoos, Swaddlebees, Happy Heiny's and son many more. Those have an outer layer of PUL and inner of fleece (to keep baby dry) and get stuffed with an absorbant material (like a prefold or specially designed insert...I use prefolds) to make an AIO type dipe. There are pocket dipes that are not AIO types, but they are few and far between. :thumb
What are the best cloths out there? The elusive question that there is no answer to. It depends so much on your personal preference. At the beginning of the summer I would have said flats, because they're so versatile, but now I'm using and loving my fitteds again. Many Mama's only use pockets, because they're so "easy". It is an unanswerable question. :LOL
(Emma I clothes for about 5 months, but I just had the ones you pinned, and didn't care for them) If you ever want to try to use those dipes again, try buying a "snappi"! They take the place of pins and are 100% easier to use. They cost about $3, and can be ordered from any online store. I'm a strong believer that no matter how many fabulous fitteds you have, you're always good to have a few prefolds and a snappi as a back up system.
I can talk diapers all day long :blah , and have just started collecting fabric to sew up a newborn stash if my pregnancy dreams come true. If you have more questions, saunter on over to the diapering folder! Lots of new mama's are asking similar questions I'm sure, and lots of great resources get tossed around there daily!! :thumb

THanks for the info! I do lurk over on diapering sometimes, but I find it to be very overwhelming.

I do no frills, prefolds and prowrap covers with the occasional fuzzi buns and wool cover. I am very very boring WAH!

I use Fuzzi Bunz and I did use Swaddlebees but getting rid of those.. I have a heavy wetter, and I use Wonderoos and I just bought a few Mutts and a wool skirt thing and a wool longie and now I need to get a wool shortie. I cant wait to get them in the mail. I LOOOOOVVVEEE my fuzzi bunz and Im starting to like my wonderoos now that Ari is getting bigger... They are realllllly bulky on a tiny baby (mine was 4 lb 7 oz lol) and then I plan on getting some Kissaluvs and covers for the new baby until the Fuzzi Bunz fit really good lol. :-)

I just got my financial aid check, so I ordered a few dipes and covers. Tried to get a wide sample to see what I will like the most. However, I did find some beautiful wool covers that I could not resist, even though they were $$$. One is purple with a mermaid embroidered on it and the other is an apple with a worm coming out of it. Soooo cute.
I am so going to be a diaper hyena. I hope my purse can take it.

If you are crafty, making them seems like it could be fun. I want to learn how to knit... I think those longies are sooo cute... but sooo expensive. If I'm lucky, I might be able to have one nearly done before the baby comes! :Sheepish:
What (brands?) did you buy????

Yay, I'm thinking of learning to make them after I get a few and see them. My mom is already thinking along those lines. I got several different brands and I'm not sure if I can remember them all. Some fuzzi bunz and bummis. A stacinator cover and some prefolds. One of the cute $$ ones was from Little Fishy. Not sure about the other one.
If you guys are interested in crocheting wool soakers. I found a great free pattern on the web: http://www.tohook.com/blog/?page_id=44. I already know how to crochet, and this pattern's pretty easy. I'm working on my sewing though. I have a pattern coming in for an AIO cloth diaper. Anyone sew? I'm sure I'll need lots of advice. I've never made anything more complicated than a pillow case and simple curtains --basically I can sew in a straight line.

yay! cloth dipes!
we used mostly prefolds with ds since he was 2 weeks (had a cuddlebuns, which was very nice, a couple happy heiny's, a fuzzi bunz, and a kissaluvs contour). this time, we're ditching the prefolds and going with 3 dozen tiny tush one-size dipes! :D
i'm gonna crochet a whole bunch of wool soakers, and probably buy a couple tiny hinnies wool wrap covers, too.
ah, the joy of cloth shopping for a new baby... :LOL

Once ds started walking we used only Fuzzi Bunz. They have been great. I don't feel it as necessary to use them on our little ones though. We started cloth diapering DS when he was 3 months old, so I haven't experienced newborn diapering yet.
My current plan is to use mostly prefolds with cheap, trusty covers for the very early days, and then get some more fun covers when the baby grows out of newborn size.
If I am lucky, I might buy some fitteds. I would like to have some for wearing around the house without a cover.

We use re'uz'ums, which are a not particularly cute AIO. They've held up well, but I think there are higher quality dipes out there. We got them used from our diaper service for 3-4 $ a piece, down from 15$ original price. Worth it!
If your budget is at all tight, you may not want to invest in fancier dipes for a newborn. I think we'll do prefolds with snappis and basic covers. They just grow out of that first size so fast.
Wow. I've only known that I am pregnant for 20 hours or so. I'm still reeling!

We practiced Elimination Communication/Infant Potty Training with ds and it went great :wink ! We used cloth diaper back-ups most of the time, but we took him to the sink or toilet when we thought he might have to go. When he was a newborn, cheap prefolds were great because he grew quickly and they were easy to launder. It wasn't worth it to buy fitteds and more expensive dipes until he was size medium. This time around I will probably go from tiny prefolds to EC-style training pants, rather than standard cloth dipes.
We gradually did more and more diaperfree time, until we ditched the diapers 24/7 at 18 mo, and just used regular underwear. At 23 mo, ds rarely has accidents during the day (I help him use the potty/toilet), and at night he either uses the potty with my help or if he does have a miss I just change the pad underneath. I love not dealing with diapers anymore and the whole process was really fun and interesting! Doing EC totally changed how we diapered. I highly recommend looking into whether it would work for your family.

I have numerous odds and ends, but my basic "system" for DD was/is
Kissaluvs 0s and prowraps in NB/small for the early days.
fitteds/proraps during the day until about 6 mos. Fitteds and wool cover at night (I use wool wrap covers, not pull-on)
From 6-18 mos she was in daycare and wore pocket dipes during the day (FB or HH) and fitted/wool at night.
18 mos+ still a pocket during the day, and fitteds/wool at night.
For fitteds, my faves have been SOS, Daring Diapers, Sugarpeas, and other WAHMs. I'm partial to hemp.
