Visiting from the Jan. thread--

I know how you feel! During my first trimester I would feel fine one minute, and the next I felt I would die if I didn't eat RIGHT NOW!!! We made several trips to the corner store, and made alot of stops along the road to "empty my bladder and fill my stomach!" :) It DOES go away, eventually (at least it did for me). I tried to eat healthily, but it seemed that a half a sandwich filled me up more than the same calories in nuts. I think a mix of carbs and protein helps to get you full quickly.

Make sure to eat lots of small meals. Sometimes I would eat cottage cheese, or sharp cheddar cheese as one of my snacks. I tried eating lots of veggies, too, but I am not a veggie lover :D.

I bought extra cheese at the grocery store yesterday!

Everybody's standards of healthy are different. During my first pregnancy, all I could eat for about a month in the first trimester was ramen noodles (definitely NOT healthy, lots of trans fats & msg) alternating with juice mixed with seltzer water. I just told my midwife I should probably wait to do my diet journal until LATER and she agreed. At that point I was eating to survive, not for careful balance of nutrients.

And it was fine. I am not too that point yet in this pg!

So a couple of weeks ago nothing looked good to me. Now everyone out of my way unless you want to get hurt :LOL I'm also finding that now certain things just disgust me. Like last night I made a pretty healthy pudding pie for DH and I, something that we both enjoy. I had some and afterward I had decided that the type o' crust I had chosen needed to be banished to the ends of the 7th circle of h-e-double hockey sticks. Yuck!!! It sounded so good at first! But of course he just loves it. :LOL Hmmm, I told someone else on another thread the other day that I've always found, and still do, cucumbers and vinegar with some salt and pepper to be quite filling and some of the most delicious stuff I've ever eaten. :yum Now, like I said before, this might be some kind of weirdness but I just love it. And even though I'm feeling pretty blessed not to be :Kiss the commode, :fingersx: I've always found this to be quite good for nausea. :D

Thankfully eating out hasn't tasted good to me, thank G-d for pregnancy taste buds cause otherwise I'd be eating crap all the time! ;) I still haven't figured out what does sound good, I'm hungry all the time but don't know what to eat. Got a big thing of Spring Mix in the fridge, I'll munch on that later today.

I have been alternating between having absolutey no appetite and being starving! M/s sickness has begun for me, so I'm feeling nauseated most of the time and have to eat something. I usually have to force myself to eat, but I usually feel better if I do. For a while at least. :sick

glad to hear others are starving too! some days i am very hungry every single hour! the first week or two i knew i was pregnant i was doing great about eating veggies and fruits constantly (always with some protein and fat to avoid low blood sugar) but its gotten harder. veggies sometimes sound terrible to me and red meat sounds great. anyway, yes, i'm starving too and all natural peanut butter on crackers is a great snack. it instantly takes the hunger pains away and makes you really thirsty which is good b/c of the pregnant ladies increased need for water.
another great snack is cheese and a thick pinch of spinach or lettuce wrapped in some turkey. you can put it in your mouth fast and it is an easy way to get some greens in your system.
anybody else wake up in the middle of each night so starving that you feel like crying? those middle of the night hunger pains nearly bring me to tears!

:nod Yup, in fact it is now 1:00am here & I just woke up from hunger. I eat a lot of peanutbutter sandwhiches on whole wheat. I sprinkle some wheat germ on them for an extra nutrient boost. I find the protein fills me up and helps me feel better, even when I had m/s.

I'm not starving but I seem to be eating as if I were :bag:

I am focused on putting healthy food in my body even more so now that I am growing another person. In my last pregnancies, I had really bad nausea and vomiting, and with the last one, a really strong insulin response when I ate sweet stuff. I would get shaky and light headed as my blood sugar plummeted. My doc at the time told me that the placenta makes hormones that influence blood sugar and mine was just really active, sort of like the opposite of GD. So anyway I am focused on eating unrefined foods and whole grains. Trying to avoid foods that have caloric energy without being nutrient rich.

We will see how I do once the nausea sets in. In my past pregnancies, the only things that made me feel better were heavy carbs and meats. Bummer that apples and whole grain pretzels didn't do it.

You ladies with the tastes for meat are singing my tune. All I want is meat! With a few veggies and fruits thrown in there for dessert. We do eat meat just not very much of it and I think this baby ain't havin' that! :LOL My food repertoire has reduced significantly. Meats one of the few things that sound good. I told DH that if I didn't get a steak with some roast beef, bacon bits and BBQ pork piled on top that something was going down! :rotflmao I find this very :nut since I haven't eaten meat in any kind of abundance in years.

Last time, fried foods and chicken repulsed me. Beef especially hamburger was what I always wanted. So far, I seem to be eating the same as usual, but I'm not feeling any serious m/s yet.

One of the first signs I had that I was pregnant was that I was craving spahgetti and meatballs - and I am vegetarian. It happens w/each of my pregnancies. I guess I need the protein.

I hear you. I've really been trying to limit my choices to healthy ones--fresh fruits and veggies, eggs and fish weekly -- which is how I had been eating prior to suspicion of pregnancy. One day I'm fine and the next, I'm snapping at my husabnd like I haven't eaten in weeks. I have to consciously put the feed bag down ( spagetti and meatballs, or something else high in refined carbs and meat) and force myself to have some fruit and drink water. But it's hard.
Although, today I noticed a little nausea because I didn't eat anything for breakfast. Hopefully, if I keep my blood sugar levels steady, I'll be able to stay on the wholesome path.

Wishing everyone momentary reprieves from the feed bag! :blush

Yep - I don't see how only gaining 25 lbs is possible. LOL. I exercise though so that helps with the extra food. I eat a handful of cashews and milk when I need a snack - it's very filling.

Nuts are working great for me. But yeah, I'm starving, too.
