Just found out I'm measuring large, but I'm positive of my dates. Soooo I wondered how common it is, or if I should start gearing up for twins!
TIA!

How large? With Stella I was always measuring large.

I measured a little large with my first, almost always by ~2-3 cm. With this one I measured about 17 cm at 14 weeks, then at my 18 week appt. they measured me at 24 cm! That was Monday; yesterday I had an ultrasound and there was only 1 baby in there. So yeah, I guess you could say I'm measuring big! :D My belly has been growing all along but up until 3-4 weeks ago my weight was static. Then I stopped feeling sick and have gained about 6 pounds. It's funny, I actually feel like I'm eating less (don't have to eat every 2 hours), but the weight is finally starting to come on.
I wouldn't necessarily assume twins. In fact, I've heard a lot of twin moms actually don't measure outside the ordinary. Are you having an ultrasound? That could clear the question up if you're worried or if you have factors that would make you more likely to have twins.

With my first I measured pretty much right on. But with Noah, from the time the midwife started measuring fundal height I measured 2 wks big. My 18 week ultrasound also measured him 2-3 weeks older than I knew FOR SURE that he was (I know when I ovulated/conceived). Late in the pregnancy (about 34/35 weeks) I suddenly started measuring 4 cm big...so I had another ultrasound to check amniotic fluid level, etc. Everything was fine, he was just a big boy. And I had an anterior placenta, which I think made my uterus pooch out bigger in the front.
So far this time I seem to be right on track. We'll see!

I always measured big after my 2nd pregnancy.
Each time I had a normal size baby, right on for dates.

Just wanted to add that despite measuring "big" with my DD, she was born weighing 7 pounds 5 ounces. So measuring big also doesn't automatically mean having a big baby!

Thank you so much for all of your replies! I would love to have twins, but I suspect this is just a singleton, and your responses confirm that a bit for me!
Just to be sure, I'm having a sonogram in a few weeks, so I'll find out then.
Isn't pregnancy so interesting? I am always learning something new.
Have a great week, everyone!

it's pretty common to measure 2-3 weeks ahead of where you're at. it's not an exact science after all, it's really only to monitor growth. So, if you remain 2-3 weeks ahead that's totally fine, but if you are suddenly measuring a lot more ahead or behind then it is cause for some concern.

I'm measuring large and they thought it was twins. We did an ultrasound and turns out there was only one baby, and a fibroid. Shouldn't cause any trouble at all, so long as it doesn't block the birth canal. They usually shrink during pregnancy anyway. I'm not worried about it. The midwife said that about 50% of the people who get an ultrasound done have a fibroid.

Yup! With my third I was measuring 5 - 6 weeks big. We did do a quick u/s to find out and there was only one baby in there!! He was a big one though - 10 pounds, 2 ounces.
