OK, a fluff topic, but since you guys were talking about 24, I started thinking about my Most Favorite TV Show Ever, Veronica Mars (http://www.upn.com/shows/veronica_mars_tmpl/). It's starting in just a few weeks!! It's probably like 24 in that if you missed the first season, it will be harder to tune in now, but I will highly recommend it to anyone looking for the smartest, most well-written show on TV right now. (Seriously!!) Plus, I have a major girl-crush on Veronica. :Sheepish:

I'm also looking forward to Survivor and The Apprentice, and my total guilty pleasure, America's Next Top Model!

And of course COLLEGE FOOTBALL! I love watching my Georgia Bulldogs play.

Bah! How can you say that...when Arrested Development is on? I love AD. Although I have heard good things about Veronica Mars from others who also like AD, so perhaps there's something to be said for this. AD is the main reason we keep our television set hooked up to reception, and about the only show we watch. I have been known to watch America's..Model, if only for the histrionics. But this last season was not as great as previous years...I think they're starting to scrape the bottom of the model-wannabe barrel. Or maybe girls are starting to catch on that they aren't gonna really be America's Next Top Model, more like America's Next C-list celebrity who may be in a one-off teen magazine.

Arrested Development is one of my faves!

We also watch Survivor, Amazing Race (although DH doesnt seem as excited about the family version coming up), CSI....hmmm, what else? Simpsons, Family Guy. :LOL

We are not watching 24 this season, since it turned us off last season so badly.

We also like the HBO Original Series, Deadwood is my fave, then Sopranos, Curb Your Enthusiasm and The Wire. I have Tivo'd Rome, but have not watched it yet. I have high hopes, since I love good historical fiction and HBO did so well with Deadwood.

Last spring we almost got burned out, because we had at least one show a night Sun-Thurs and it got tiring.

Oh yeah...and Lost. Although that one is sort of loosing its luster for me. All msytery and no freaking answers! :p

I watch Nip/Tuck and DH does not, he watches pro football and I do not. We both watch baseball playoffs, though.

It sounds like we are tv addicts, but thanks to TiVo, we can watch exactly what we want, when we want. Love it!

I just wonder how much time we'll actually have to watch anything. Well, esp me with TWINS!!!

BUT, here's my favorite shows that get TIVO'd.... I love my TIVO!

1. Survivor - can't wait - I am so addicted to this show it's not even funny!
2. Stargate and Stargate Atlantis - ok so I'm a slightly techie geek!
3. Rome is pretty good so far....
4. CSI - I can do without these if I miss them
5. 24 is a must when it comes on. DH and I love this show!!!

That's about it I could do without 3 and 4, so I guess I'll be ok when my little ones come along.

I made our cable go away so no fall TV for us! DH has already found that he's WAY more productive without it, and the house is a lot more peaceful now. I find that I appreciate the lack of American Chopper more than I miss Star Trek or CSI.

What we're going to do instead is start getting good shows on DVD. I want to get Horatio Hornblower, season 1 of Battlestar Galactica and maybe the first season of House, and perhaps the first season of Lost. I agree with BensMom that the all mystery, no resolution of Lost is getting a bit wearisome, but I am ok with that as long as I still get to watch Daniel Dae Kim (swoon!)

Any other suggestions for good shows on DVD? I like well-written shows with good characters more than one particular genre.

Also - I don't know if anyone else here is a fan, but I find reading the recaps of shows on television without pity (http://www.televisionwithoutpity.com) is frequently more entertaining than watching the show itself.

Spughy, I'm pretty sure Veronica Mars first season is coming out on DVD next month. GET IT!!! I've been thinking about getting The Cosby Show on DVD now that it's out. That's one of my all-time favorite shows, and now that I'm about to have a baby, I totally appreciate their parenting style.

I love TWOP also. I actually used to be really good friends with Tara (Wing Chun) and Sarah (Sars) before they started TWOP. We all knew each other on a message board that recapped Beverly Hills 90210! We used to all get together in random cities, and that's where they actually got the idea to do their own webpage, which started out just recapping Dawson's Creek. It's been really cool to see how successful they've been. And cool for me to say "I knew them when..." :D

We are also low-TV (like I said, it's pretty much Arrested Development, that's it, except if I come across America's Next Top Model). We don't have cable either - just what comes in on reception that night (it changes nightly), so we don't watch much on regular TV. We put TV DVDs on hold at the library, free entertainment! We can also get DVD movies there too, we never rent movies anymore. I love movies.

In the past year we watched and liked:

BBCTV shows: The Office, Coupling. I looove The Office.
Six Feet Under: Seasons 1,2, and 3
Dave Chapelle Show: Season 1 and 2
PBS series (can't think of any names right off the bat right now though)
Curb Your Enthusiasm: Seasons 1, 2, and 3
Arrested Development is on DVD now, apparently
The OC (I know, I know, it's horrible...yet so good...)
The Simpsons and South Park if you're into that...

Basically, a lot of HBO and BBC tv shows. There's probably a few more...but can't remember right now.

I also love Television without...particularly about Six Feet Under, where I can catch up without actually watching it.

If you don't mind profanity and sexual situations, then I highly recommend Deadwood. Al Swearengen is probably one of the best written characters on tv, but he does cuss quite a bit! The first 2 seasons should be out on DVD now.

Oooh, yay.

All summer there has been nothing on!! The only thing I've watched is So You Think You Can Dance.

I Loooooooooooooooooooove my Survivor!! I've watched every episode of every season except I tuned in late on season 1. Even when people are tired of it and think it's repetetive, I still can't stop watching!

Also luv the Apprentice (there's going to be a Martha Stewart one, too?!?!?!?!), the Amazing Race... and pretty much any reality shows that aren't trashy. Oh, and dh got me into Lost- I didn't watch it when it was on but he downloads the episodes and we watch them one after another- hope I'm caught up my the time the new season starts!

I was looking thru the most recent fall tv listings, and it looks like there is a show on I like every night- however, ds needs to be put to bed right at that time so I will have to tape everything and watch it another time. I am always telling dh how much we need Tivo, but I doubt that'll happen since we'll already be several hundred $ in the hole every month with me not working and are looking for ways to cut back!

I am seriously hoping that my favorite show... Charmed is coming back this season. I read somewhere that it was but I haven't seen much info on it. I absolutely love that program. DH and I are also addicted to 24. We will have to wait until January when the next season comes out though. I don't really watch anything else religiously. We are channel surfers. Thanks for all of the suggestions. I am going to check out Veronica Mars & Arrested Development.

Amy, that's awesome that you know the TWOP folks! I am SUCH a fan. That is the best site ever (well maybe except for MDC...)

I have heard a lot of good things about Veronica Mars but I've never actually watched it. I think because it's about teenagers, and I have a hard time getting into shows about teenagers (I HATED Dawson's Creek.) Maybe I will find someone who had the DVD when it comes out and watch a couple though, just to see.

I have to say I am totally amazed at the amount of tv and enthusiasm for it some of you express! It's very cool to have 'space out' time so please please don't think I am flaming any one of you. I personally am totally into nip/tuck and dh and i only see it because we rent it from netflix. (So we are a season behind.) DH is a law and order addict and I tend to prefer SVU, but will tune into some other editions at times. And I will probably watch er even though it feels pretty lame these last couple years. Other than that... I have a real adversion to most tv and all commercials, so I often miss bits of shows because I am slow with the remote. Oh well!

Is Veronica Mars on cable? I've never heard of it. I sort of want another show to watch that is all mine and mine alone (ie, dh isn't isnterested and I can watch and space out all alone.)

Veronica Mars is on UPN, like the step-child of cable networks. It's the same place as America's Next Top Model, which is actually how I found out about Veronica Mars last year.

Spughy I totally understand about the teenager factor, but it really isn't your typical show about teens or high school. I will buy the DVD at some point so when I do, you are welcome to borrow it. But you will get hooked!! ;)

We got rid of our DVR (Tivo) when we moved to the new house to cut costs, but DH is so freaked out that he might miss a Texas Longhorns football game this year that he's thinking we might need digital cable again. :LOL

So you can download TV shows from the web? Where would you do that?

Well, all those HBO shows I listed are not on at the same time, so basically for us it works out to 5-7 hours of TV per week. I don't watch TV during the day and much on weekends (unless we are getting caught up on sometime from during the week) so its about 1 hour of space time after DS is in bed.

I can barely remember what it was like when DS was a babe, so I dont know how much things are bound to change very soon!

I really like ER, and for years that's been the one show that I've watched regularly, although I've missed quite a bit over the years too. However, you can always go on NBC too and just read their episode descriptions if you get too lost! I watched some reruns from the previous season that I'd missed over the summer, and I was very happy to see Neela get a little action!! :p Now if Sam will just give up and send her bratty psycho kid off to live with his deadbeat psycho druggie dad like he wants to and wash her hands of both of them and just start a new life with Luka, my dreams for the season will be fulfilled! (I know that sounds terrible and is not very AP of me. If it were a real person I'd feel differently, but given that he is both fictional and horrible I just want to see him either reformed or eliminated!!)

We used to have a whole Thursday night thing going on, watched The Apprentice and then ER. But we got sick of Apprentice after the second season and stopped watching it.

One thing we REALLY like is the PBS "reality TV". We watched a lot (not all) of Colonial House and also Regency House Party. I think I want to have DH get old episodes of the ones I didn't see on DVD (he gets free rental cause his second job is at a video store!) I think the first one was Manor House and I saw bits and pieces of that, and Pioneer House (or is it Frontier House?) was supposed to be really good!

I've been living with cable included in my rent for almost 2 1/2 years now (minus the couple of weeks after I managed to piss off some cable guy and he cut us off until the landlord made amends), but after our move on the weekend, we'll be cable-free again.

I'm hoping to find something more productive to do with all of those hours that I used to spend watching tv...like watch tv series on dvd!!!! I will miss the ability to turn off my brain and turn on the tv some nights, but mostly looking forward to finding some other ways of spending my free time.

I do still love ER after all these years, but it's on too late for me and I always forget to tape it. So Neela got some action, huh? Who with?

Oh, I forgot about those shows! They are so good. I loved Colonial House- or was it Manor House? I forget which. And Pioneer/Frontier House. So interesting. My only complaint is how their aired it- like 2 yrs a night every night or something, rather than an hour every week- so you get a huge dose all at once and then it's over with nothing to look forward to. Does anyone know if they're making another show anytime soon?

I can't believe this!! I just discovered TONIGHT that we don't get UPN with the cable system we have. No Tyra and the crazy hos of ANTM for me tonight. :crying I'm going to have to resolve this before next week's premiere of Veronica Mars!!
