We had an ultrasound yesterday and found out that we are having a boy! Quite a surprise as dh and I were both convinced it was a girl - we hadn't even looked at boy names. DD had said that she wanted a little sister (most of her playmates are girls), but easily accepted having a little brother. She was fascinated by the ultrasound, but kept saying it was creepy. :LOL

OOH! Congratulations!! I know it's wrong to want one sex or the other....but I would just love to be having a boy, too. Gotta wait a whole month to find out!

Thanks everyone!! I'm still a little surprised, I really thought it was a girl, but I'm adjusting.
My ob doesn't allow kids under 5 in the ultrasound room at all and you can only have one other person with you anyway. We're lucky that dh's cousin is an ob. We went home for FIL's birthday this weekend and dh's cousin worked us in. He did this with dd too. He just checked over that everything looked good and then asked if we wanted to know the gender. He's a gadget guy and loves to play around with tech stuff. He just got a 3-D ultrasound machine, so we got to see that too. We had dd, MIL and FIL and my step-mother with us. My dad couldn't get off work, but he tried. It was a full house in that little room!

Sleepymama - why do they not allow children??
When I had an ultrasound at almost 8 weeks to confirm the dates, I took both of my little ones with me (DH had to work) and no one batted an eye.
We're going to a different OB for our big ultrasound next week. It's the same office I went to for an ultrasound when I was 35 weeks pg with Noah. I took Jenna (then not quite 2 years old) with me to that appt and no one said anything - I even nursed her on the exam table! :LOL So I am assuming they don't have such a rule, and Jenna (now 5) is going with us next week - she's very fascinated with pregnancy and birth and is dying to know the baby's sex, so I thought it would be cool for her to be there. We are leaving Noah with a friend, though - he would just be distracting and bored.
My birth center encourages bringing your children and anyone else who is interested along for any appointments...I just don't get the "no kids" policy.

I've never had a u/s where they limited the number of people allowed or didn't allow children. At my last u/s with dd3, I had Dh, MIL, FIL, dd1 and dd2. With me and the technician, it was one crowded little room :LOL
Congrats on your boy - I'm hoping for some blue around here this time around :)

The literature that I got at my first ob appointment said that many children under the age of 5 can't understand the nature of an ultrasound and become frightened, so no children under 5 please. Then they go on to say that because of limited space in the waiting area and in the ultrasound rooms, they have to limit each patient to one guest. So if you bring dh/partner, you couldn't bring a kid in anyway. The rooms seem plenty big and they actually have a large toy room in the waiting area, so it all seems very arbitrary to me. No one has said anything about bringing dd to my regular appointments with me, but I rarely see other moms bringing kids.
A friend of mine just ran into this rule somewhere else. She is having a homebirth, but her midwife wanted her to go for an ultrasound because the baby is breech and they can't get it to turn. She, her dh, and dd showed up for the ultrasound and they would not let her dd go any farther than the waiting room. She ended up leaving without doing the ultrasound rather than make her dh and dd wait outside the whole time. Luckily the baby turned on its own about a week later.

Big Congrats. My Hubby wants to find out so bad that I am considering not having and U/S at all just to make sure the temptation isn't there. I want a surprise!. I found out with my other two and we have two girls, age 3 & 1. I know my DH loves his girls but he wants a boy so bad he can taste it.
Congrats again!

DH had convinced himself that this baby was a girl, but you could see the utter joy on his face when we found out it was a boy. He was trying so hard not to get his hopes up. :LOL
