Just read in the paper today that Britney "is hoping for a cesarean section" because her mother told her "birth is excruciatingly painful". So much for that whole kabbalah waterbirth idea....?

And slightly O.T., she also said she thinks motherhood will make her "less introverted". :laugh: (I can't find the spitting-out-my-drink smiley... ;) )

aww, I read that. This stuck out: "She said marriage and motherhood will help her "not be influenced so much" by what other people think." For someone not wanting to be influenced so much she sure was easily influenced out of a waterbirth. How sad :(

She told Elle magazine that she wants a cesarean section because she doesn't want to go through pain. She said her mother told her giving birth was "the most excruciating thing she's ever gone through in her life."

First of all, it makes me so :( when a woman passes this kind of message on to her daughter.

And second, I can never understand how *weeks* of painful recovery from a c/s is supposed to better than a few hours or maybe a day of labor pain???

yeah, I took every pain med offered while recovering from the c/birth, and it still hurt like a :censored for weeks. If it's pain she's trying to avoid, why not an epidural? So sad... :(

I just hope she has a labor and delivery like I had with my first. It was so fast that we almost didn't make it to the hospital, and it was relatively painless. I was ready to do it all over again immediately! That way, she wouldn't have to go through a C-section, and she could prove her mother totally wrong!

I wish so bad that I could just have 2 minutes with her. My son was a traumatic vaginal delivery, and my dd was delivered by a "normal" c/s. I'm pregnant now and I am having a homebirth. A c/s is easily 10 times as painful to recover from :( Its one of the very few times in my life that I have cried tears from physical pain.

This is just sad. I mean, not every woman experiences birth as a wonderful, blissful thing. That's fine. I'm sure it hurts like a b*&$h for most people. But THAT'S NOT ALL THERE IS TO IT. Lots of things hurt, but that doesn't mwan they're to be avoided at all costs. It is sad that our society has twisted this so much, so that a mother - who should be the very one to pass on this beautiful tradition to her daughter - has done the opposite and turned her away from her instincts. :(

I agree that her mother is the problem. My mom always said that yes, childbirth hurts, but you forget all about the pain when you hold your baby. My mom had us *mostly* naturally (she caved in with me and had some demerol, and my sister was breech but somehow mom survived a vaginal birth anyway LOL!). To me, recovery is worse than labor pains, and I can only imagine how much it hurts to recover from a caesarean.

It doesn't matter HOW old you are... if you are that easily convinced to drastically change something SOOO important to you, then you are still a child.

I wonder if she's read about the new study showing the c-sections may be one of the causes of ECC? (Early Childhood Cavities) (I had an emergency c and am now facing horrendous ECC and repair under GA for him next week... horrible). I actually recovered easier from the c then from the v, but I did face rehospitalization due to infection in the incision... I can't imagine choosing to have a c over a v...

I have to admit that I've never pushed a baby out - but I have laboured into transition, and I'd take that much of it a dozen times over a c-section. The only thing in my life that's been worse than my c-section pain is when I tore a ligament in my knee while cross-country skiing...and it was only when I actually tore it that it hurt as badly as being post-op does.

Where do people get the idea that a scalpel through your abdomen is a pain-free procedure?

She's chosen a very posh hospital about 30 miles away from us. It has lovely birthing rooms and hot tubs, everything you could ever want. Why bother? The OR probably looks like every other OR in the country.

that truly hurts my heart that all her mother can pass to her about birth is that it is "excruciatingly painful"- well yeah, it can be, but also so empowering and beautiful and amazing...sigh...I bet her mom had a "standard" 1980's ultra-medicalized birth... :rolleyes

There's no way of knowing if either article is completely accurate, but the c-section article was written about 2 weeks after the Kabballah water birth article so it looks like her plans may have changed. Who knows, could be that neither of them are right! :LOL

I read, I think in Us magazine--don't laugh, dh got me a subscription for Christmas because in late pregnancy and pp that's all the attention span I have--that she already had a c-section scheduled. Maybe that was wrong, though.

I still keep hoping that perhaps she'll schedule herc/s but go into labor on her own,before it, and it will happen quickly and beautifully and she'll become a champion for natural birth. That orshe'llbe a bullhorn for "oh mny gosh! that was awful! way too fast! wishI'd had myc/s!" Hoping for the first of course. I'd love to see a really big name, known across-the-board celeb celebrate natural birth. I mean, some do, like Demi Moore (I love hearing her tell her birth stories!) and John Travolta, but even they don't havethe generaltional cross that Britney Spears does. She's young and well known by people both young and old,of special importance to those young. She's older than I was when I had myfirst but she's still a beacon for the younger generation and I think that herbirth could, and probably will, influencea lot of peopleand I betshe hasn't given such a thing muchthought. I'm still disappointed in her own mother and I'm sorry that her mother had such a horrid birth experience that she chose to share the negativity with her children. Sorry...stepping off :soapbox

And - I think the interview in Elle magazine likely has more credibility than a "report" from unknown sources in In Touch. Which is a shame, because the almost $4k for the water waterbirth sounded like a hoot :wink

LOL That's hilarious! (well not really, CPS sucks) The 23rd isa Friday, I'msure that's why it was chosen. It happens to be my mom's birthday dn the day before mine :) Ih ave a friend begging for an induction that would probably occur ont hat day actually (which meansshe's probbaly have him on MYbirthday the way inductions tend to go whenone isnot ready...)
