Why is it driving you nuts? Just curious if it's just a vague notion that one should spend only a certain amount of time (defined by you) socializing and reading and discussing issues, or whether there are other things going on here. I mean, I can think of very good reasons why it might not be a good thing for me in my life, but just because it annoys someone else isn't one of them, sorry. :)

What is your question?
Are the forums nurturing her in a way that you can't when you are not with her? If so I don't see a problem with that. We seek out those who will help us and sometimes they are few and far between in real life. Would you have a problem with her spending 5 hours at a friend's house?
If you feel uncomfortable about what she is learning then you need to come and have a read.
If you feel excluded from a part of her life you need to have a read of the forums yourself, or consider that there may be many areas of her life that you do not full access to, which is totally normal especially when you are on this journey in mothering - no pun intended
If she is reading here when you think she should be doing other things then that is something you need to discuss between you.
Be honest with yourself. Talking to her will help you find the answer to your unasked question; not posting here.

Okay, okay, okay, that is my rogue DH in the OP. Yes, he was being facetious. I mean, come on, I've just hit 200 posts after over a year.
I just found out about this thread because he was cackling at his computer (I'm sure at all of the :nono s, references to babycenter :LOL and directions to clean the house :thumb ). Yes, he has his own unique sense of humor. But you'd all be proud of him. He's one of the most supportive, sleep sharing, babywearing, cloth diapering men you'll find. Thanks, sweetie! Now you'd better post again and tell them all how wonderful I am! :LOL

I thought the first post was a joke? I thought it was really cute :LOL
(On a related note, and more seriously: While things like reading the forums can become obsessive and "soft" addictions, I doubt a husband who was really worried about his wife would make a post like the OP. I have a tendency towards soft addictions myself, so I know it's important to watch for the point where posting stops being fun and starts being compulsive.)

Well, my dh thinks it's funny that husbands post here. Because it's called"Mothering":LOL Don't ask....
And he also thinks "parenting" magazine should be called mothering, then I told him"no, honey there is already the Mothering magazine" :LOL
What's wrong with posting for a few hours? I'm sure you could occupy yourself with some chores or reading, or playing with children...

She cooks, she cleans, she makes beautiful babies. She takes them for walks, she reads to them, she buys them fish and teaches them how to take care of them. She does the dishes and the laundry. She cloth diapers and wears the kids in slings. She buys those cool soft leather shoes. She breast feeds and doesn't circumsize. She laughs at my jokes (at least the first 100 times I tell them) She doesn't spank the kids even when she's at the end of her rope. She reads books to me and to the kids. She tolerates my music. We have the same belief system. She's even the perfect height. My kids and I are soo lucky to have her blows my mind. I am seriously the luckiest husband on the planet.

THAT'S IT! Next time I get married I am marrying a woman!
MDC does use regular HTML, we just don't have the feature to post images directly on most of the boards. It makes the boards load faster or some techie thing like that.

My deepest apologies for reacting so harshly to your OP. In my defence there have been a few SO's who come and post some not so nice things for the world to see when it should be kept between the two. In other words, there have been some real jerks posting here and there things they should not be. I though this was another one of those situations.

But as far as the laptop...it gets worse. We have wireless internet. Guess who was on MDC while bathing the kiddos this morning? :p

Dude, no way! I've gotta see pictures of that! Last night I was realizing that I could hook a line of string to the ceiling in the kids room and have a clean shot all the way into the kitchen, effectively from one end of the apartment to the other. Then, I could rig a pully thing to ride the string.
I made a prototype to ride the string, but I think tinkertoy pulleys have too much friction.

That reminds me I forgot some stuff. Helen wears special nursing bras and got rid of the television. She researches stuff all the time and pays the bills. She does the budgeting and when we were in school she figured out my schedule. She wakes me up in the morning and gives me a hug before I leave for work. She figures out what sizes of clothes the kids are going to be wearing years in advance and buys them ahead of time. She keeps her hair long only because she knows I like it that way. Taught our DS his colors and shapes and numbers and body parts before I thought a kid could learn that stuff.
She's really so cool, that it really makes me look like a regular dead beat parent in comparison.
I know I am forgetting stuff... I'll post more when I remember it.

Okay, okay, okay. I wear the bras for convenience. (Don't know that nursing bras are much of a virtue...) I don't so much "wake him up in the morning" as kick him when he's let the alarm go off too long. Lest you all think I am some kind of a shopping addict, I just pick up clothes for the kids ahead when I find them at yardsales and on clearance. I keep my hair long because I like it that way (maybe I shouldn't own up to that one?) and cut it short every year or so just for fun (much do DH's dismay...maybe he blocked it out of his memory?). I didn't really "teach" Ethan any of that stuff--just read to him a lot.
Most importantly, no one in their right mind would think my husband is a deadbeat parent. I think the most common thing I've been told about him is "he's so good with kids!" Or maybe, "you're so lucky!"

Well, it's just a pulley from the education store with a string and a tiny basket attached. It used to me more high tech (for us)- there were two pulleys, one attached to the light and the other attached to the hanging plant hook, and we made this whole family of pipe cleaner/wooden bead people called the Beadle Builders, and some wooden seesaw levers, and cars with wheels and axles (from legos) for a unit of simple machines. Alas, the Beadle Builders and their car and seesaw are long gone, but the pulley remains.

It's got me laughing. I showed dh the tinker toy crane and I saw his eyes start to sparkle as he started designing one for himself. :LOL :LOL :LOL
I wonder if it is time to get stock in tinkertoys:)

Kind of curious what would bring people to Knoxville, TN. 2 people posted saying they were moving here. It's a great place to live.. But not sure why you'd decide to come. (not a real "Wow I want to live therE!" type of place on first visit)
Unless you're coming to work at UT or one of the National Labs in Oak Ridge..

Jacob (Photar) supports a huge Mac network at the High School. :thumb The one on the counter was actually one he checked out. The laptop we own is Mac as well. I do have to say, personally, it drives me crazy to not have a right click. But it's cute! :LOL

Helen and Jacob,
If you are ever in California Hot Springs, just north-east of Bakersfield in the sierras, feel free to come by. We have a 3-year-old, a slide, and a huge great room that is great for many indoor activities in bad weather. You can see the house in my signature.

Aww, thanks to everyone who's saying we're cute.
Would you think we are even cuter if you knew that my mom used to be his babysitter, we've known each other since we were 7, were friends through junior high and high school, and were lab partners in college chemistry before we started dating? :LOL
Seriously, though, we're not THAT cute. We can bicker with the best of them. Having a husband with such enthusiasm for tinker toys and such can be a double-edged sword. :p And I know sometimes I drive him crazy with my perfectionism. But...at the same time, we've put each other through college (and not to completely derail myself here, but isn't it a little funny that I have a diploma signed by Gray Davis and he has one signed by Arnie?). We've become parents together. We've survived unemployment and family crises. We're successfully raising a 1-year-old and a 3-year-old. And we're happier together than we ever have been. I kind of feel like, if we can make it through all we've been through, we'll make it through anything.
I think we've just learned to give each other credit for our good intentions even when we don't agree with the other's choices. Having that, we can talk through just about anything.

Shhhhh!! We have elected you the new cutest couple. Well, you tie with Sean and feebeeglee. But don't mess with our minds by telling us your faults.

Oooh! That sounds like fun! I want to go! :) How far from Bakersfield would you say you are? Would you be interested in coming to any of the Bakersfield/Kern County MDC get-togethers? We've met a few times and are trying to set up regular meetings. We have a monthly thread going in Finding Your Tribe if you'd like to check it out.

We're about an hour and 20 minutes from Bakersfield. My dad lives there so we do visit, but do more of our shopping in Visalia since we have business meetings there. I'll have to find the Bfield thread.

Um...I bought a big cloth stuffed turkey Thanksgiving decoration the other day at a yardsale. I actually bought it as a gag gift (because of his reaction to the platter), and it is ugly, but...it's growing on me! I think we will take family portraits with it every Thanksgiving. It'll give us an idea how much the kids have grown every year! I think our children will develop fond family memories of it and will fight over it after we are gone. :LOL
Oh, and EVAR! is a reference to how DS pronounces the title of his "Richard Scarry's Best First Book Ever" (with enthusisasm).

And don't you believe that price tag. I talked her down to at least half price. :LOL

DH and I find living here to be too expensive - a small house (too small for a family of five) runs about $500,000. So, we may decide to move. If we do, it will be Knoxville, because that's where dh is from. He has friends and family there, and we have no friends or family anywhere else. Besides, Knoxville's really pretty...and I love the Smokies - Gatlinburg is fun...it's just a really neat area.
My dh used to work at Oak Ridge, but he left to come here and live with me.

Hey all, for those of you who've offered me recent congratulations, thank you so much!! But my elevator birth story was actually just recently bumped up. Kira's almost 1 now. :)
For those of you who don't frequent the birth stories forum but can't pass up "elevator birth story" without investigating further :LOL I will kindly provide a link. http://www.mothering.com/discussions/showthread.php?t=203377
Hmm...now that I think about, when my sweet husband was singing my praises on this thread, he might have mentioned this unmedicated birth (and letting him SLEEP through the first 80% of it) ahead of the nursing bras. :LOL
