I feel really embarrased by this! I have had three yeast infections now, the last one I waited about two weeks to medicate, because I was waiting to go to my dr. and see if it wasn't something else. She said it wasn't, and gave me a prescription, which I used. Now, two weeks later....
It seemed to have cleared up, which was great. Then DH and I had sex finally, and some of the symptoms came back, literally, immediately!! I don't think I would have symptoms so quickly if he was passing it to me, so I am guessing it was lingering and all the "activity" kind of gave a nudge to make it more evident.
I have a dr. appt today, and will tell her, but I feel gross and like I'm doing something wrong! I eat yogurt daily, cut back on sugar, keep that area clean and dry! :(
I'm so frusturated!!!

Good luck -- I don't have that but I do have a bacterial infection on my face that I thought was gone and came back. The dermatologist said your immune system is different (i.e. not as good) during PG so these things can persist more than usual. I also have gotten some warts, which he said was normal, too. I am treating with gentle antiobiotics till after the birth when we will really try to "knock it out" with some hard core stuff -- I don't want it to spread to by breasts or the baby, of couse.
I too, waited out this infection (thinking it was acne) for 6 months. Sometimes in my opinion it's best to treat something agressively right away, and knock it out before it gets established and then you have to take meds for much longer -- hind-sight is 20/20 . . I'm generally a hands-off person but I do think there are times when prescriptions are the best option.
Seems like we are having some similar issues .. .

I would very, VERY strongly recommend seeing a naturopath and finding out if you have Candida, and treating it holistically. I had it in my gut after some harsh antibiotics and stopped digesting food. It was horrible. My doc was useless and basically said I had a tummy bug :irked: . That was the first time I saw a naturopath who immediately dxd it and put me on a strict hoslitic regimen and got rid of it forever, I hope.
Basically, I had to cut out ALL sugar - not just the obvious, but starches, breads, etc. as yeast feeds off of it (that's when I found out a whole new world of non-wheat food products), cut down on fruit juices, caffeine, etc.
I used a Flora powder to reseed myself of healthy internal bacteria.
I used some vitamins for energy, ate tons of healthy, fresh veggies, and I think had some homeopathic drops as well.
I also suggest your partner get tested cuz he could be the one infecting you.

Yes, I always take probiotics after any antiotics, too. RainCoastMama,
do you know if it is good to take the DURING the antibiotics, too? I have the Garden of Life powder type that's very expensive so I hate to take them if they are just being killed by the meds?

Plagio - to tell you the truth, I don't remember. I haven't taken antibi's since (I'm scared to) - maybe email the company and talk to a rep there - they're usually pretty good about answering this kind of thing. I would guess not to take the powder as antibi's really do kill everything in the gut, even if they're more gentle. Yeah, the powder is expensive isn't it...that was kind of an expensive treatment but so worth it.
To the OP - I'd emphasize what Plagio said - whatever you do, try to treat it before you breastfeed so no nastiness with thrush.

Just a thought but I would also try a yeast free diet (no dairy, vinegars, etc... there's a lot of info on it on the internet). Possibly your dh may have it and you are passing it back and forth (my bro and SIL went through this).
HUGS.
There is lots of information and links on the gentlebirth archives about candida in pregnancy:

Well, yesterday I had a visit to our dr, and asked her what's up. She seems to think I am having allergic reactions to semen??? She suggested DH use a condom for the duration of pregnancy, when we have sex. I asked if DH should be tested to see if he has an infection, and she said no. I thought that was kind of wierd...

Hi, Im' not part of this group, but was nosing around and saw this post. Fromthemoment I became pregnant this time, I've had a recurring yeast infection. Aside from using TTO externally, I don't do much forit. I'm leary of taking anything though I'm really tempted to go get some Vagisil. It lasts a little while then disappears. It's highly annoying and sex definately aggrivates it whereas strangely autoeroticism tendsto make it go away... Anyway, I'vewondered if maybe it'sjust an allergic reaction to semen, so maybe your OB is on to something there. I'm highly latex sensitive (vaginally at least) so I can't use condoms even. I just poppedover here to commiserate. Itchy Crotch stinks (no pun intended!)
