Got a call from my midwife this afternoon. The routine urine sample I gave at my appointment last week is full of Group B strep :( Krap :irked: I am not symptomatic for the UTI so at least that is a good thing. Because I have enough to have a UTI, it means I am significantly colonized.
We are treating it with antibiotics in hopes of wiping out the GBS. We'll see.
If I test positive next spring, the deal doesn't sound too bad. She said it would be totally cool for me to be in the water as I get the antibiotics so I am OK with that. But.....my labors are very fast and I don't think I would get to the hospital birthing center 2 hours before the baby is born anyhow :eyes KWIM? She said, yeah, it isn't a big deal if that happens, since a fast labor means minimal exposure of the baby to the bacteria.
So all in all it is fine. I evaded the GBS my last two pregnancies. Was surprised by it today.
Oh and the other thing she said is that third babies are wild cards, they often aren't what you think they are going to be like in terms of your labor. Isn't that wild? I have heard that before. I guess we will see won't we?
Oy! There really is always something new isn't there.
I am very happy with the midwife group. They seem to be totally inline with where I am coming from and my wishes.
OK off to pop some acidophilus and search for ways to get rid of GBS :nut
