I'd like to see photos of stuff you (or the kids) have made with kids toys such as tinker toys and LEGOs and Lincoln Logs etc.

Um.. technically, that's block and tackle.
And don't you have a later picture of that?
I know it ended up much more elaborate.

I don't think my kids are going to recieve any of those toys
until they start being born, so another 3 months at least. I'll
see if I can dig my old toy box out of storage this weekend, I
once designed a lego robot that'll put your crane to shame.

So that what a block and tackle is! Double pulley system, fixed at one end, winched at the other. Okay, it all makes sense now.

(yes, this does mean I've been too lazy to google block and tackle *every* time I've read it in a book :LOL )
