I am 29 weeks pregnant. I woke up Saturday with horrible pain just on the outside curve of the lft side of my belly. At first I thought maybe baby was laying funny and that it would work itself out. I had a doula client in the hospital overnight who was getting induced for HELLP Saturday morning, so I rushed over and began my (long) day. I was busy, but I still had the pain -- I kept figuring it would go away. I took three Tylenol, and it did nothing.

Client had her baby Saturday evening, and I was home by 8:30 pm.

Sunday it felt a *little* better; I thought it was finally going away. No such luck.

I have had it every day since, and it is about a 4-5 on my pain scale. It never goes away. Advil did not help either. Standing up it is slightly less painful, but sitting and especially laying down (on either side) warrants many little crying-outs on my part as I adjust into position :(. It hurts so bad! Today I spent a lot of time with my client, taking her home from the hospital, helping her with a breastpump, getting her medications, and so I knew I needed to get through this day. I know I could have called my midwives, but I have an appointment in the morning.

I finally broke down and took a Vicodin :( -- I am hoping it helps.

I don't know what to do. I put heat on it and that didn't do anything. If Baby moves or kicks on that side of my belly it hurts so bad; if I press on the sore spot, or ever press on Baby from the other side (pushing him ever so slightly to the left side) it hurts -- it seems the tenderness has increased. It even hurts to sit on the toilet :(.

I have had round ligament pain before, but never like this -- and always a bit lower -- this is in line with my belly button.

I feel like crying. I was afraid maybe it was a bowel/colon thing, but everything in that department is just the same -- bm's and gas, all normal.

Any ideas? I am afraid my midwife is just going to say it's nothing, but it hurts so bad! At least with contractions you get a break!

I don't know. I had AWFUL ligament pain the entire 2nd trimester and most of the third. For me it's one of those deep secrets of pregnancy that nobody told me, that round ligament pain isn't just a twinge. It really HURTS.

But mine was always pretty low, kinda in the groin. Bikini line-ish. Never near my navel. And while it hurt after a long day, it never hurt much lying down and always went away overnight. Rest made it better, as did soaking in deep water (to take the weight off the poor tired ligaments.)

I would probably talk to your midwife and consider what it might be. I don't know what would cause pain like that around 29 weeks, but if there's something wrong you don't want to ignore it.

yuppers. I went to Tokyo at 5 or 6 months-we lived about 2 hrs away by train-and the trip entailed climbing up and down like 20 flights of stairs and being on my feet for the better part of the morning. By the time I got to that last flight of stairs, I thought I was in labor. It was brutal. We got to the hotel (the hospital was across the street), and dh called the nurse, who said it was ligament pain, to rest and take it easy. It didn't really go away for a long time.

This time I'm having the bikini line kind of pain. I looked it up, and it is also called ligament pain--which I think is kind of a catch-all term for muscular/connective tissue pain. this time it felt like my abs were going to rip right off my pelvis. It's getting much better though.

My midwife did take me seriously. She said maybe it's a kidney stone (I did have one show up on my left kidney in a ct scan last January), or maybe baby's pressing on my ureter. They are doing lab work on my urine.

Today it feels worse, and I almost feel feverish. We are supposed to go out of town tomorrow for the weekend for ds's 6th birthday to our hometown.

Timing!
