when, or if, you take your DS or DD out for lunch where do you go?

We usually go to an a diner Saturday or Sunday mornings for breakfast a couple times a month in the city. We live on the East Coast in a suburb of a large city, about 5 miles away.
Most days it's quite enjoyable. My DS is 3 so we make sure they bring all of the meal at the same time. Once, they brought his breakfast first and he finished shortly after ours came and was ready to hit the road running. Lesson learned. We also bring other food so that he isn't starving before the meal comes. We also bring toys to play with on the table.

CPK and Islands are the most amenable lunch with boogers we've found, in terms of national chains. They're loud rowdy environments that have food the kids like and the wait staff seem to understand how kids operate; timing is always right on, table settings kid-friendly, and plenty of crayons and toys to noodle with. And it was the ONLY national chain place I've ever been that didn't look at me sideways being a Dad with two boogers at lunch on a weekday. Islands also has surf vids playing all the time which dd totally digs.
Our fav local joint, say for post-surf burgers or grilled cheese, is The Habit (Socal bunch started in SLO). We picnic a lot more often though... cheaper for us.
