Hello ladies! I am new to MDC and wanted to introduce myself.
My name is Hannah. My partner Katie and I have almost 6 year old twin boys Owen and Milo, and are expecting (get ready for it, it took me a while to adjust too) set number two (genders unknown) 12-28.
I am hoping to make better choices for this birth than I did for my last one. I was young, uninformed, and thought doctors knew best. I fought them tooth and nail to have a vaginal birth, and I got it, but I also tore pretty badly and had an epi. This time I desperately want to do it MY way, which, at the very least, involves no drugs and does NOT require lying on my back and starving the whole time. I would love a homebirth, but I'm scared, and can't find anyone to do it with twins (yet!)
We live on a hobby farm in rural PA and absolutely love it. Katie works at a battered women shelter and I am a SAHM and homeschooler, and I occasionally work in my dad's store.
Nice to meet all of you!
Hannah

Hi, Hannah!
Congrats on your (second!!!) set of twins! Wow! That's pretty amazing! I bet you and Katie really were shocked with that news!!! :LOL
We actually have two other moms expecting twins in our EDD group. And, lots of support for natural birth here of course. :) We're so glad you joined us! (oh, man... I'm beginning to sound like a cult member, aren't I!?!? :wink)
Have you been over to the homebirth forum to research twin homebirths? There are many mdc twin moms who gave birth at home and lots of good information there. :) There is a SEARCH feature at the top of the forum list that you can type in twins and see numerous threads from over the past few months-years.
Oooh, and certainly make a stop over at our Queer Parenting forum to meet up with other same sex couples and single queer mamas if you haven't already been over there. :)

Spark- I like cults :)
Thanks for the heads up on looking at the home birth thread! I hadn't thought of that! <slaps forhead>
Yeah, we are twice blessed... maybe :)
It's NOT easy. When we had the first set... oh boy that's a story for another day. Suffice it to say they were NOT planned, did not come about from a good situation, and we were flat broke! This time is different, so I hope it will be easier. I about dropped when I was told I was having two AGAIN. And I had a real @$$ for an OB who said "too bad you're too far along to terminate" Argh! I may have been shocked and, honestly, really upset, but I would never do THAT! BTDT and backed out at the last moment (hence Owen and Milo) and don't ever want to go back!
So glad I found this list! There ARE people out there like me! Woo hoo!

Welcome to the cult err club :)
I know another lady online who has 2 sets of twin boys too, 2 years apart. Busy mama.
I hope you can find the support/info your looking for and can make this a perfect birth for you :)

Welcome, Hannah! Wow - 2 sets of twins! I'm feeling mildly overwhelmed being pregnant for my second (single!) baby. Guess I need to toughen up a bit huh?! :)
I hope you can find a great homebirth midwife to assist you at your birth! Homebirth is just such a wonderful experience - I wish it for you!!

Welcome, Hannah!
Good luck with your home birth research! My MW is the only one in our area who delivers twins, so it can be hard to find, but just keep researching!

Welcome, Hannah! Wow do twins run in your family? How amazing.
With regards to finding a midwife who will deliver twins, I can say that in my state the insurance companies forbid birth practitioners (midwives/OB/family docs) to attend twin births at home. If they want to have liability insurance then they HAVE to attend twin births only in the hospital. So obviously this is a policy designed without the needs of birthing moms in mind (like all the other policies held by mega-insurance companies, grrr.) So in my area the only midwife who will attend home twins births is the one who decided to go without liability insurance. As a result, she can be much more earthy and oriented on the wishes/needs of her clients than the other midwives, whose policies are increasingly dictated by the medical-establishment-driven insurance companies.
Erm.... /rant off
:o
So if it's that way in your state too, then maybe a licensed but non-insured midwife could help you have the birth of your dreams :)
