so sorry, I won't be able to make it today :( I took a nap with Gabe and now feel so groggy- just a bad pregnant day. I'm really sad as I want to see Rhiannon, but I can't handle the drive. Jeri, I have a little gift for your little one- could I maybe stop by sometime and drop it off? I don't want to have to wait ages to see her!! Maybe on Monday or Tuesday? Let me know.
To you others, sorry I missed you this week. Hope the park is/was fun. :hug

I hope you are feeling better Lucy. We sure missed you. Rhiannon is a real cutie pie! You will love meeting her. It was fun comparing her to Zoe. They grow way too fast! Zoe is not the tiny newborn anymore. I had a great time and look forward to seeing everyone again.:love

We're moving!!!
Goodbye San Diego...hello Ashland, Oregon!
We took a spontaneous trip up the coast to discover some new, well new to us land.
Ashland is everything I have ever dreamed of! Nestled by mountain ranges, Ashland is in a valley. It is a small town with TONS of culture. Great restaurants, a WONDERFUL organic food co-op, Playgrounds and parks every time you turn around. They are clean too (unlike the parks around us). The playground equipment is modern. 2 of the playground/parks we went to were exceptional. One is a water fountain park that kids of all ages enjoy, the other is in the gorgeous 93 acre Lithia Park. This playground is right alongside a shallow creek that sounds so sweet to my ears. There are steps that lead down to the water so you can play and watch the ducks. At the water fountain park they have free arts and craft everyday thruout the summer! Seanra beaded a necklace and the park and rec worker was so sweet with all the children.
It is very friendly to pedestrians too! If someone is in a crosswalk, traffic stops to let them walk! The library is beautiful with tons of wood, super high ceilings with tons of natural light coming in from the sun lights. There is a whole "wing" for children. Storytime 2x a week.
It is safe and it is incredibly beautiful. I think there are only 20.000 people who live there and just a short drive up the 5 and you'll be in a small city. There are no targets, walmarts or chains downtown. Only small shops. On the outskirts of town next to the 5 is a McD and a few other places like it.
We can afford to live there :) we can probably even buy a house there! Best of all we will be living in and with nature.
I'M SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:)
julie
edited to say: We live in about 30 days, probably less! We rented the sweetest townhouse with a patio and it is all wood on the outside, wood burning fireplace...right in town...walking distance to it all!
hola mamacitas!
:dust
CONGRATULATIONS JERI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND
WELCOME LITTLE RHIANNON!!!!!!! :bgbounce :banana :balloons

thats great news, we want to meet her! tell us where and when youll meet next week ok!?!
congratulations jeri :hug !!!
Tomi was so sick all week, hes never been this ill, lots of diahrrreahh (sp?lol) and awful stomach ache, fever, not eating, lying down all day... poor guy! (and mom ) hes much better now thanks to our super homeopath, I thought he was going to end in the hospital, that bad it was, but we managed to go through it with homeopathics, phew, Im glad its gone, whatever it was.
Sooooooooo we are planning to go drumming on tuesday and ALSO to meet you all wed. if you are going to the park.
Julie that sounds great, we wanted to go to oregon since simone said she was moving there, it sounds great! its cool youre so excited about it ! :D lets meet before you leave!

ooooooh Lupita, poor Tomi. Gabe had the same thing last month and he DID end up in hospital- I didn't even think about trying the homeopath (Lupita and I share a wonderful homeopath!). I'm glad that worked out for you.
Julie, sorry to hear you are leaving us, but Ashland sounds gorgeous. And I'm sure much cheaper than San Diego!! It's getting so crazy here..grrrr...
Jeri, can I come by maybe on Monday to see Rhiannon? PM me, or call and let me know. If it's a pain I can wait, I'm just impatient ;) I'll just stay a few minutes, because I remember the stress of having a new baby in the house. Maybe I can do the dishes or something>? (because I am sure you remember how well I do them... ;) Think my house..!)
Sybil and Regina, see you girls next week!!! And Lupita, hope you can make it! We usually meet on Wednesday or Thursday afternoon.

Hey Mamas,
What is your favorite second hand store to sell baby clothes, etc. at? I have a ton to sell before our move. I'll sell the ok/good stuff at our yard sale and the great/excellent stuff to a baby store in hopes of getting more than I would at a yard sale.
We'll also be selling a bunch of furniture, entertainment center, a really nice all wood toy box/chest, probably our kitchen table and 4 chairs. Tony is going to sell a couple computers- Dells.
I also have two dressers that are antique...how should I go about selling those?!?
Lupita, I'm so glad Tomi is feeling better- poor little sweetie. I know how hard it is to see our little ones sick and equally as hard to care for them. Hugs to you mama, you made it thru! I hope you'll still come visit! For now we'll be in just a 2br but eventually we really would like a 3br- for families to visit :)
I'm sorry I was unable to become better friends with some of you mamas. Usually the times that you all get together is Seanra's naptime and I have to be picky about when and where I take her because she is a wild girl ;) I mean that in the sweetest way. The day at the zoo was fun and I know you are all good and kind mamas. I will miss you all.
Sybil, I left a message for you, hope to ttys.
Lucy, I'm glad Gabe is feeling better- wow I didn't know he was in the hospital! How scary for you all! I hope these last months of your pregnancy are quick and fun for you.
Thanks for your help :)

Hi Julie! Please join us when we get together to play. We will be at Murray Ridge park in Serra Mesa on Thursday at three (right mamas?). If you can make it and want directions, let us know.
To my other dear friend Julie (freethinkingmom), I have not had a chance to call you yet. I will Tuesday. I am both excited and sad about your move. We will have to talk about it. We need to go to the waterpark too.
Glad to hear everyone is doing well. I am so sorry to hear about Tomi. Lupita, I am glad he is doing better. I hope we will see you soon. I want to try coming to drumming soon, but I always seem to have a conflict.
See some of you on Thursday.
hey mamas, thanks for your concern about Tomi, hes much better, Im the one that needs some -A LOT- rest now! Lucy pooor Gabe, if it was the same thing, how awful! Melanie (our shared homeopath :D) said that it could have been a parasite! What did they tell you about Gabe?
And mamas, please could someone pm me the directions to get to the park? From I-5 or 805 Or else I will look it up on map it.com or something like that, to see you thursday ok!?!
Ok mamazitaz, hugs toyall :)
And we renewed our zoo memebership so we are up for that too!
ok so zeeyou soon!
i just checked mapquest and as I understand I have to take 805 North and then take the exit on mission center road and thats it?
eclipse
07-01-2003, 12:22 AM
lupita - the actual exit from the 805 is the murray ridge/phillis place exit. you'll take a right off the exit on to murray ridge. the first 4 way stop you get to is mission center. you'll go straight through htat intersection. two streets past mission center, you'll take a left (i believe the street name is chantilly?) and follow that road as it veers off to the left and you'll end up in the lot for the park. hope to see you there!
julie - i hope you can make it too - it would be great to meet you! i'm in the normal heights area, so we're not too far away from each other.we used to meet at trolley barn park on park and adams, but it was too hot there and too close to the street.

I may not be able to make it again- we have an important meeting on Thursday afternoon which I don't think I can get out of- have had no success so far anyway. Sorry, that'll be two weeks- Gabe needs to play! He starts preschool Thurs morning and I feel so sick about it. Pls send me positive vibes as I am freaking out about it, and Micky is off on work travel again so I don't have him to console me :( boohoo. Sybil, tell me it gets easier- he hasn't even started yet!!
Lucy I think we posted at the same time, are you theeeeeere?
I understand how you must feel about Gabe, or partly I suppose since the idea of sending Tomi to school freaks me out too, so HUGS HUGS AND GOOD VIBES! he will be ok ok ok ok ok and he will love it and if he doesnt well, you can pull him out and wait oooorrrrrr we can all start a preschool coop! and then register one of our houses as a private school and homeschool them!
Im not kiddig! we could do something cool if we wanted to...
but in the meanwhile, lots of good vibes for juicylucy and gabethebabe!!!!!! and miles and sybil too!!!!

Hi from outside! I know, I should stop crashing this thread, but I'm still subscribed to it and I can't quite bear to break the connection yet :(
Julie, Ashland is where we wanted to go, only it was too expensive for us. YOu'll love it, it's truly a wonderful place. And I'll see you when we visit our friends in Jacksonville!
All other friends here ~ I'm sorry I haven't written or emailed anybody. It's been too busy, we stilll don't have our paperwork together yet (Jeff is still a tourist :hat instead of a resident), I still have a hard time adapting here, and I miss having girlfriends with whom I can just sit down and bitch about "snacking" all day long and gossip about people who we only know by user name with ;) At the same time, I'm using a lot of energy trying to focus on Audrey, who is pretty much her normal self which also means she gets stressed out even easier than normally. It's hard to give her the attention she needs, and the reassurance she doesn't quite know how to ask for when she's secretlyy afraid that we moved here to "exchange" her for WIllem ~ especially now that the school issue is also on the foreground. She'll be going to school next school year, which starts mid August. It's a Jenaplan school, which is really pretty neat and which I'll write more about when I get myself together more, and she'll be starting just 2 mornings (or afternoons :) ) a week.
And I"m 8.5 months now. I'm big big big, I"ll post some pics when I get around to it, bigger than you ladies will probably expect me to ever be able to get. I haven't gained more than 8 lbs or so since we left, but my belly is very round, I have these big bloaty ankles and thunderthighs, and I truly really waddle. Quack. WIllem is all the way engaged now, I can feel his head less than an inch from exit station, but I'm still very posterior. Here they think nothing of letting you ride a bike at due date, but I hardly can because of pelvic pressure. Part of me is really turning inward now, trying to concentrate on the tasks my body will have to deal with soon, trying to get some sleep in, trying to convey to this little guy that we're all ready to meet him, while another part needs more time to adjust, to focus, to get myself together.
I"m having contractions at night, which I never did with Audrey. I have to let go of the fear that this birth will be the same negative experience (induction and c/s at 42 weeks), and allow our bodies to decide for themselves, but it's hard. And nobody here understands how it feels, so now I"m starting to cry a bit. MIssing you too much. I just so much want to meet little Rhiannon, and hug you all, and do Panza games with Tomi, and chase Gabe, and commisserate about hugeness with Lucy, and make faces with Liam, and try to get that elusive smile from Miles, and... well, you know how it is. And bring you all green ballcookies and Henry's strawberries to get over that terrible stomach bug, of course. Even if it's in that strange new park where you all go nowadays ;)
Everybody big hugs from me. BTW I'm posting my contact info here now, but I'll remove it within a couple of days to reduce the risk of abuse by outsiders: I removed this ~ Lucy, the email worked, Loops so did the phone, so these two sweethearts have the correct info if you ever want it :) You'll hear from me soon, you have no idea how much this helped. thanks and now I gotta cry again because you're so sweet :o

Wow! So much going on on this thread. Simone!! So exciting to hear from you. I am so sad that it is taking some time to adjust. What a difficult time to be in a new place. Many, many hugs:hug to you. I think of you all the time. I really, really wish you could be here so we could give all of you lots of love an support. I just can't imagine you with big thighs.:love Please do stay a part of this thread. Even though you don't live here right now, you are still a part of it! We really miss all of you.
Lucy, I am so sorry you can't make it again. I miss you! I am definitely thinking about you w/preschool. It does get better! Miles is actually excited about it this morning! I know he will cry when I leave, but then will be happy. I am enjoying it now too because I know he is having fun and is well cared for. Like Lupita says, you can always stop if it is not working, but I think it will.:)
I have to write more later. Time to go.

oh Simone :( :hug You are not on the outside sweetie- we are just waiting for you to come back and visit. II for one would be very sad if you stopped posting on this board. I wish I could share all this with you too. Your post made me cry- I know how you feel about being ready to meet Willem but needing more time. It must be especially hard with the move, but give yourself a break- the paperwork can wait. You need to look after yourself and pamper yourself. Sounds like it won't be long now. I am also very VERY huge and ducklike, and my ankles by the end of the day have disappeared. I just have legs with no discernable features- everything is the same width!!! Nice look.
Oh sweetie, you'll meet the mamas you want to chat so badly with- it just takes time. It took me FOREVER to settle in to San Diego, and now I have some great friends I can talk to. Just put yourself out there as much as poss- you will meet like-minded people.
Ok, I will e-mail you soon- I tried before but I think I may have srewed up the address as it didn't look like the one you posted!! And take your info off the baord! I don't want you being stalked!!!!
:hug :love :hug :love
simonita I miss you so much!
And Im one of those who will be abusing your email & phone from now on,
I wish so much we could be over there to hug the whole of you, and laugh and cry, and also to not being able to talk because the kiddos will interrupt all the time lol, and to eat some yummy dutch munchkins, or chocolates!...
like Lucy said, take care of your self and use pampers :D
You are such a sweetheart and we all miss you over here.
By the way I just talked to Jeff! I couldnt resist when I saw your phone but yes remove it! Or else yu might get phone calls on how to reduce-enlarge..... stuff!

You girls make me feel so good.... Mind you though, that pic is a couple of weeks old, and I "modelled" a bit :LOL
It just doesn't look that huge on me ~ remember that those airplanes didn't even look THAT big in the wtc... they would have seemed sooo much bigger stuck in Lupita or someone ;) But huge it really feels, esp when I do the 24-step getup process in the morning.
We printed out one of the Twiggs pictures, A loves it and so do I.
Last nite I had about an hour of regular contractions, some painful. It's Jeff's bday today (isn't he just the kind of guy who strikes you as almost being a Yankee doodle dandee born on the 4th of July? LOL the obgyn scheduled the c/s for the 3rd so he could bbq on the holiday, true story :eek ) so I hoped for a nice gift. Or Willem will be the Yankee doodle dandee... But now the ctx are gone and we're back to the waiting game.
And... uh... diapers... on me... I guess they do sell them... you'll even get them paid for (universal health care, remember)... I just wrote the grocery list including the maxi pads :)
Jeff still has his ulcer. His residence permit isn't fixed yet, so officially he doesn't exist (I get single mother welfare :) ). Maybe in a couple of weeks ~ that's why we DO need the paperwork, becuase sometimes his stomach really really bothers him.
btw the "guest room " is ready for whoever wants it!!
Love you all....
new ladies, make sure you meet these women. They're awesome.
:love :love
This is Tom (Dad can dance) (The living Dad) (The Undad) etc.
Lupita asked me to post this. She thinks she wont make it today as ds woke at 5am.She doesn't feel she would be a good driver today. Unless they both get a good nap. She's very sorry because she was looking forward to meeting Rhiannon and to seeing you all. Hopefully next week.

hi there. i am new to this thread, i hope you don't mind me butting in - y'all sound like you have fun together! I am moving from Eugene, OR to San Diego sometime in Aug. I will be attending UCSD in the fall. I have a 19 month old son and was wondering if any of you have anything to say about daycare centres up to 20 min away from UCSD. I would love to find one that offer good organic ( I wish!) snacks, NO TV, lots of arts and crafts and outdoor play. Oh, and one that will change cloth diapers too. It's daunting when one looks at the yellow pages for childcare and I feel more comfortable getting recommendations from other mums. Cheers! :)

Hi Chaka,
We look forward to meeting you. As for daycare, there is a pretty good one on the UCSD campus, but it does not meet all of your criteria. I am not sure if you can find one that does or not. Anyway, the USCD International Center childcare is pretty neat. It offers good quality (but not organic) snacks, has lots of playtime on a very shaded play area, is very open to parents staying as long as they please to help kids adjust, is very nurturing, and more. It is also very reasonably priced for students. It does not accept cloth diapers the last I checked. That is a major drawback (especially if you need it for a fair amount of time), but it is worth your looking into. I can't remember the website, but try a web search. That is a start. I will check with someone else that I know that lives in that area and see if she can help. Let us know when you get here. We do have fun and always like to meet new mamas.

Hey there,
If y'all get together early or for lunch, Seanra and I would like to hang out :) I like Sybil's casa! Such a nice yard, would make an Obecian envious ;)
Seanra usually naps around 2pm. We can put it off for awhile tho in the name of fun.

Hmmmm..... getting complicated. Ms. People Pleaser here is struggling with this. Monday early in the day works for me 'cause I can get Miles down later for a nap and we can have Julie and Seanra over. But....that leaves out Lucy and Gabe. After 3 Tuesday works 'cause Miles is in Preschool 'til 2:30 and will have napped there. We can do both Monday early and Tuesday afternoon at my house. If Jeri is up for that then everyone can see Rhiannon, just not at once. LMK. What the heck, what is the point of having a big house and yard if it is not full of kiddos having fun. (Mama's too!):)

We are still on for tomorrow. I look forward to seeing you and Gabe, Lucy. We missed you today. I have been thinking about Gabe and preschool. I am so glad it is going well. I meant to call you last week and check on you. How are YOU doing with it? It really doesn't feel so bad when the kiddo is liking it, does it?
Yes, Julie, lets get together at my house one more time before you go. I would love that. Miles never did nap. We even went for a long walk in the stroller and he did not conk out. I think he was just cranky from sharing his toys and his mama for so long, lol. He was only going to take so much of that! Didn't you love his attitude when I was holding Zoe?:nono Hey, that reminds me, I did not hold Rhiannon today. I will do that tomorrow:baby
See you all later.

dO YOU (OOPS) get together much?
Sybil, only just saw your message (:
Chaka, hi! ICNS used to serve organic snacks. Cloth diapers? ha! (maybe, but it didn't work out for me). It is a preschool though, not a daycare center. My first son went there but my second son will not be going.
I don't know much about daycares as I didn't need one for either kid. I would say that *I* didn't like the one in UTC mall.. too many things that strucks warning bells for me.
You might look into the childcare center at SDU -- I think they might be full and I'm not sure what age they take them, but I know the ass. director and she is a complete sweetie and they have an AWESOME facility. I hven't spent anytime there observing though. If you contact her she might be able to suggest somewhere though?????
Good luck!

Hello and thanks for looking at our for sale list...a virtual garage

Then on the very top I decorated it with dried flowers etc. It really is nice and is a goldeny/dark wood. Nice wood, not fabricated or particle board, heavy, real wood. $100

Thanks to Bubbles and Scarlet for your input. I was aware of the UCSD childcare and that they took in only from 2 years old, which will not work for the first couple of months. I will look into SDU and ICNS (what does that stand for anyway?) and not into the one at UTC mall. Thanks again. I will definitely be asking any center that I visit about doing cloth diapers. It should not be any more hassle to them than changing a disposable one. Just dump it in the bag like they dump those in the trash..at least that's the experience I have with the daycare center that I use now. Oh and to juicylucy who sounds like you're just now coming to terms with sending Gabe to pre-school - I started Aidan at daycare couple of months ago and was guilty the first few weeks but he has loved it so far. I love the fact that they get so much stimulation in terms of arts and crafts...things that I don't get too enterprising with at home. Plus I get to run chores without him and thus devote all the rest of the time with him just being with him.

has anyone heard from simone? just wondering if her little man has made his grand entrance yet!
simonee
07-11-2003, 05:20 PM
No not yet. I'm feeling ctx at nite, very weak, and self-exams give me the impression that I'm just about effaced but not dilating yet. I think we'll go past edd (20th), I just hope not too much so I won't end up in the vicious induction cycle. I've never been in normal labor, so I'm not very well able to recognize what's what. Some nights the ctx are a bit stronger ~ esp after I remembered Lucy's warning and started sprinkling peppermint oil on my pillow :o, so I guess I talked to Loops after one of those :p
I'm also being very nervous and unstable. There's just so much insecurity balled into the next few weeks ~ our finances, Jeff's status in the country, the arrival of Willem, it's all supposed to fall into place in the next two weeks or so. I'm trying to work a bit (translating the romance novels) but can't concentrate well, and I feel like I don't have enough to say to really email or call anybody. So all I do is surf the new posts here all the time and post hugs and stuff
Plus I've done so much moving and stuff that I don't really feel any nesting instinct anymore. Why bother sweeping the kitchen if I've spent a week trying to get curtains made and up? I've made a kind of Didymos sling last week, which was great work, but I'm afraid the fabric is too thick and it'll end up as a pair of pants. And I'm going to make a fleece pouch sling for Jeff (for J to carry, not to carry him in :) ), but it's very hard to find the parts (snaps) and stuff here.
Jeri, stories like yours about Rhiannon being mellower than Liam totally make me feel better. I'm secretly afraid that Willem is going to be another hi-maintenance kid, and I have no idea how I'd deal with that. That's why I want him OUT, so he'll be a cancer and not another leo ~ even though I'm much too pragmatic to attach meaning to astrology. BTW Audrey is just a great kid. She may be high-maintenance, but boy is it worth it. She is totally in love with her brother, and comes up with all kinds of nice things to do with and to him. She's even said that he can sleep in her spot, and then she'll sleep on his other side with her eyes open so she won't kick him, just so that he's close both to his big sister who loves him so much and to his mama who can give him snacky.
As soon as he's born, Jeff will post here and in tao, and he'll also send some emails around.
Today I started reading Ina May's book again. It's such a lonely endeavor, being in a country as full as Bangladesh and still not knowing anybody who thinks the same way. The nearest ap parent I know of is 25 miles away ~ I know that 's no further than Lupita, but here that's a quarter of the way across the country! And then I imagine I still couldn't discuss pubic hairdos with her :D There's so much I'd like to share in an afternoon at the park, even if it's that strange park I couldn't even walk to ;) , so much I want to hear from you all... The preschool saga and how we (yes, we've talked about this at home quite a bit) believe that Gabe has so much cuteness to share and to win over all those humongous classmates, how to get Sybil to wash ALL our diapers after playdates ;) , all about Rhiannon of course... And it's so cool to read about how the little guys are starting to socialize ~ I kinda forgot that they were all approaching that phase, and how beautiful it is to see a little child discovering the joys of friendship :hippie
and I'd love to meet the "new" tribe mamas!!!
Oh, but then again: in about a month, my dear board friend Ms Mom is going to Germany for a week or so, and I will get to meet her!!!! BTW our guest room is ready ~ but only for cosleepers :)
:hearts
Please send me vibes. Skip the gentle ~ tough labor is what we need here!! :diaper

I also understand how you can talk about a high maintenance kid in one breath and talk about their incredible virtues in the next. I have the same with Miles. Hey, you're the only ones I'm telling. I'm feeling crampy all day, like period cramps. I usually don't have those. I usually don't have anything, except when I have to take a dump and I already did that (sorry TMI :LOL). They're steady, not painful. Today is my "doctor's" due date, the real one is 4 days ago.

The cramps passed in the afternoon, and now it's the same as always. Maybe tomorrow...
Did I ever tell you guys that it's been over 95 degrees here about 10 of the last 14 days? :eek With quite the humidity, too.
I haven't heard Jeff complain about the chilly Dutch summers :) Instead of Anchorage comparisons, he's been saying it's like the midwest. And, looking around, it looks like Kansas too, iykwim.
Anybody going to Gay Pride next weekend?
Sybil, you're so sweet :love Even though you DO have those showgirl legs :mischief
Oh man. I'm having a "cramp" as I type. You know, I wouldn't mind waiting 2 more weeks as long as I knew I had to. I'd enjoy the play and relax time. It's the dang insecurity I hate. Like being a teenager, and analyzing and reanalyzing everything some stoopid guy says ~ "Does that mean that he thinks I am ....? Or the opposite?...." Like, every little intestinal move may mean something. Or not. And somewhere you know that all you're looking forward to is a bunch of pain and a lot of sleepless nites ;)
Keep living it up down there! Are you going to set up a date at the Mission Bay playground? It's lots of fun feeding the seagulls there! If you do, pls think of Audrey, who thought that being able to make that trip was one of the best things about having a car.

Jeri, way to go! If I were there, we'd go together: 4 kids between us LOL "god save the queer" (I once made a banner that said that. I had a friend who lived in a squat right behind the royal palace in Amsterdam, and queen Elizabeth came to visit our queen. The banner made it onto tv ~ musta been the highlight in MY creative life :LOL)
I was up all nite with ctx, every 10 minutes. And then I went downstairs, ate some, checked out mdc, and it stopped. Today I'm going to Amsterdam, visit a friend BY MYSELF while Jeff and Audrey go to the zoo, so it's my last and first alone time in godknowshowlong. And then we'll meet an mdc mama from Chicago, named beccaboo, who's a singer who got to play in HOlland. Heehee, you know me, digging 'em up everywhere! Her son's name is Miles ~ she says they call him Kilometers here :rotflmao

Hello~
Just a friendly little email to let you know we have moved :o)
PM me for our new address and phone #.
We decided to move and escape San Diego for many reasons. Ashland is just 15 miles north of the California border- so we are in Southern Oregon. Ashland is home to the famous Shakespeare festival. It is surrounded by mountains and is breathtakingly GORGEOUS. Playgrounds, parks and nature all around us. We walk thru the downtown area to Lithia Park (a 99 acre park, designed by the same man who did Golden Gate Park in San Francisco) to a playground that is right next to the creek- a creek you can play in!!! It is SO fun!!! You can splash and get your feet wet or go to where the water falls into a small swimming hole! It is incredibly refreshing, beautiful and fun. Seanra likes to sit on one of the big rocks and slide into the water- it can't be beat. There are things to do with children everywhere you look. There are so many neat things about Ashland, it is a small town, 20,000 people. We have a wonderful food co-op. If you want to cross the street, drivers stop to let you go. It is a small town with TONS of culture and conscientious folks. Art galleries, restaurants serving food from around the world and many use organic produce and ingredients, plays, nice shops, co-op gas and gardening supplies, live music in the park- it is really cool! We feel like we're living in the country, horses in backyards and llamas too! There isn't much around us, farms and mountains. Eugene is about 3 hours north and Portland is another 3. Ashland owns and runs Mount Ashland- so we'll be skiing and snowboarding thru the winter. Mount Ashland is about 8,500 feet. It is just outside of town and I hear the view of Mount Shasta from Mt Ashland is amazing. We went to the farmers market yesterday and it was great! Pretty much all organic produce- the blueberries were awesome! There are also wood toys made by folks here in town out of recycled wood- picnic tables too! It also has a midwifery school that is calling my name!!!
We have the cutest townhouse (1000 sq ft), it is 2 levels (Seanra loves that there are stairs *inside* her house), I also for the first time own a washer and dryer (thanks Peepaw ;o)) We have a back patio that is a generous size, room enough for a small pool for Seanra and our new table, chairs and umbrella for eating al fresco style.
We are very excited to live here and be apart of such a unique community. We look forward to 4 mild seasons. Come visit!!!
Here are some Ashland websites that'll tell you more:
http://www.ashland.or.us/
http://www.dailytidings.com/index.shtml - this is our newspaper- it has alot of information.
http://www.orshakes.org/ -about the Shakespeare festival
Take care and if you want to view photos of Ashland email me back, I'll be putting together a photo album over at snapfish in the weeks to come.
~julie, tony & seanra mariposa
I want to thank you all for such a nice going away party. It made the day so much easier- for closure on our stay in SD. You all are so kind and thoughtful. I want to also let everyone know how *AWESOME* Sybil is! She made Seanra 2 video tapes of Dora and Blues Clues and it made the trip easy and enjoyable for Seanra. Also, you had us all over in the midst of company coming- you are truly such a sweet mama and all the SD mamas are lucky to have you in their lives. A heartfelt thank you to you all :) - now come visit :love

First, we are up for the park tomorrow. Looking forward to it.:love
Second, wanted to tell Lupita to post next time you go to the drumming class. We could just make it after preschool and would love to see you guys.
Finally, Julie we miss you and Seanra so much:crying . The other day Miles saw someone that looked like you and he kept saying "Julie, hold you" (he means he wants you to hold him). It was so sweet, but made me so sad. I am really glad you enjoyed the party. Also, glad the tapes were helpful. Ashland sounds soooooo awesome. We will definitely have to come visit.
Anymore word on little Willem?

hi again everyone - i am still doing research prior to our move to San Diego. Haven't gotten very far with childcare but am trying to find a diaper service in town now. The Yellow Pages online lists 2 but their phone numbers have both been disconnected. Does anyone know of a diaper service in San Diego? Would be much appreciated if anyone has any info.
thanks!

Funny chaka, I just moved from San Diego to Ashland, OR!
There are no longer any diaper services in San Diego. They both closed years ago.
I'd suggest buying dipes here at Mothering, other Mama sites or ebay. There is one place I know of in SD that sells cloth, but it they are pricey. A very lovely store called Magical Child in Encinitas. She sells Motherease and Bleached Prefolds the last I was there. She has some Rikki Wraps and Air Flow covers made by Motherease and I think she sells Aristocrats too. Maybe a mama who has been there recently could update you about what she is selling. This was as of about a year ago.
I hope you like San Diego. Tons of great Mamas from Mothering there...as you can see from this thread.
Good luck with your move!
Edited to say: Come on up Jeri, I'd love to see you all again. The record breaking heat is ending, so now is a perfect time. We'll play in the creek and walk to yard sales :D

Hi Chaka,
Sorry you are not having any luck yet with child care. I hope you find what works for you. You might do better with a private home. I am keeping my ears open for you.
Julie gave you good info about diapering here. We can all help if you want to get more diapers. We have a hard core group of cding mamas here and would love to hang out with you. Several of the moms do cding in apartments so may have help for you washing on your own in a rental.
We had a fun time at the park yesterday. Hope to see everyone next Thursday. I am not bringing any snacks unless Gabe promises not to step on them, lol. Maybe we will have a new baby in the group by then!

Hello everyone :)
I'm new to this forum... can't sleep and started looking around... for once baby isn't keeping me up, it's just me! LOL!
Anyways, I grew up here in SD, then moved to LA for college and stayed for almost 20 years... moved to Florida for a few years with DH (ugh... what a horrible place!) and moved back to SD in February.
I have a 3 yo son, Dominic and a 3 month old son, Kenton. I would love to get together with some AP momma's in SD... especially CD'ers LOL... gotta share the addiction with someone LOL.
It sounds like you all have gotten to know each other over time and I look forward to getting to know you all :)

hi Lolov.. a few of us meet every Thursday afternoon in Serra Mesa (near Mission Valley) in a lovely, shaded park. You are welcome to join us- it's very relaxed and we usually end up talking about cloth diapers (and I STILL go..heehee..I'm a not-quite-yet CD user but am going to be starting in a couple of weeks with my newborn!)
Anyway, if you need directions let us know. It would be lovely to meet you and your sons :)

ahhh, another east county mama :) I'm in La Mesa. To get to the park, I take the 94 W to the 805 N and exit on Murray Ridge/Phyllis Place. Then turn right onto Murray Ridge and drive till you get to the four way stop. Take the second left AFTER the four way stop (believe the road is called Chantilly?) and follow the road round to the left. The park is up there. We meet on Thursdays at 3pm-ish.
Don't worry if you can't make it this week. We are there every week:) And good luck for your son starting preschool. Sybil (Bubbles) and I both have sons that have started preschool in the last couple of months, so we can sympathize (feels to me like it's harder for the mum than the child!!)

Oh boy - i don't know if i can handle washing my own cds. i tried for a couple of weeks and all i ended up with was smelling ammonia everytime I came close to ds.....putting vinegar in just never worked for me...I know there are some formulae i can try to put in the washer but it just seemed so easy with a diaper service here in eugene. i really do not want to put him in disposables again though....ugggh!
well thanks for the info and i'm really looking forward to meeting all of you. as for childcare - i think the montessori school of la jolla may be where we end up...they agreed to do cds too!
