View Full Version : Why don't we do some kind of swap??

I keep seeing these other due dates clubs doing second trimester swaps, third trimester swaps, and baby shower swaps, etc. Why don't we do one? Is no one interested? Or is it just that no one wants to organize? Cause if people are interested, I'll organize it although I've never done one. I love to get and send packages and it seems like a good way for us all to keep getting to know each other better and stuff. So is anyone interested or am I just crazy?

I would love to do a swap! I couldn't do one until Oct. 1st, though, as DH is a school teacher and that is when his first check comes in :p .

Really, this sounds like a great idea! i would love to see what other AP moms would like so that I can get an idea ;)

I think it's not being done because no one has suggested it yet ;) I was juhst thinking about it actually after seeing some of the other due date clubs talking about it. I'd love to participate!

Well, I've seen it, but I"m not sure how it works. I'm interested though. If someone explains it to me, and organizes it, I'll prolly participate. :)

I would love to participate! Don't have too much money to throw around, but from what I've seen its usually like a 20$ package thing.. and that I can definatly do. Especially since it comes back to ya anyway. :wink Oooh now I'm all excited! :LOL

I've seen cloth diapering swaps. I've also seen mama's post lists of things they want/need for the baby and that gives people a lot to choose from.
I think I've seen people specify to the person organizing who they would like to swap with based on the lists. Of course, there are many ways to organize this.

Here is the BABY SHOWER SWAP from the Due In Dec. board:

Welcome to your online Baby Shower! Don't worry you won't have to play silly games or having anyone guess your circumference! This is how we'll work it:

In this swap you will send one package out and receive one package from someone else. The limit for your package is $20 before shipping and delivery confirmation. You may put your package together using new or gently used excellent condition items. If you're not able to do the full $20 worth, then please, don't sweat it. We all want everyone to play!

To make sure that everyone gets a package that they love, please post your "In Search Of" or ISO list by Wednesday, Sept 21st at midnight EST. Make your list as long as possible with things that you want for your baby or for you or for the birth or whatnot. If you want something to only be new, make sure you say so. If you're open to hand made goodies (sometimes you get the most AMAZING handmade things here at MDC!!!!) then make sure you post it.

After all the ISO's are posted, you look through to find a person that you have or can buy $15 worth of items for. You will them PM me your choice(s) by Saturday, Sept 24th at midnight EST or sooner. It's best if you find a few different people you could send to so that everyone will have a good chance of getting matched up. For swap experts, we can do double swaps or two picks if you'd like, but no more than two as it makes my eyes go crossed!

As soon as I have all the picks, I will match people up with one another and post whom will be sending to whom. If someone is not picked at all, I'll post asking if someone could add them to their list of people to send to.

If you're from outside of the US, please say so in your post so that whoever picks you knows that shipping will be extra (or you can find someone from your own country to swap with).

You will have one week to get your package together and to write a nice note about your wishes/prayers/blessings about their upcoming birth/baby/entrance to motherhood and to ship to the person you were matched up with. Saturday, Oct 1st is the deadline to ship. Make sure you get a delivery confirmation number with your US to US shipments and post that number to our thread for your matchee to see and track.

I'm in!!

I love the gift swap idea.

And I looooove the idea of a bead swap toward the end - I wonder if we could even do one where everyone gets a bead from everyone else. Instead of spending all that postage to send 20 beads separately, we could do one where each person sends 20 beads and $x to an organizer. That organizer makes packs of beads and ships the whole thing out to each person who has participated; total shipping that way would be less than $2 per person, I'll bet. Anyway, that's kind of in the future... let's focus on the gift swap for now. :D

OK then...so here's my thought. In the next day or do I will post a second trimester swap thread with guidelines, etc and we will be off. I thought that we would do a second trimester swap so that if we wanted to do a third trimester one or the beads (great idea, btw, Jessica! I am totally excited about doing that but I guess we have another month or two) then we can. Ok? I'll get on that. I am excited. Be thinking of your ISO lists. :bouncy

I'm in! Haven't the faintest idea what I'm ISO but it sounds like fun.

Could we have a little more than a week to get a package together though?
