DH & I will probably find out the gender this time around (for boring practical reasons), but I'd like to keep it a secret from everyone else.

Is that even possible?

What would I say when people ask so that they're not aware we already found out? We won't lie, but need an ambiguous answer. Maybe something like, "We've decided to keep it a surprise" (from you, not from us! LOL).

I don't want people to feel bad that we're keeping them in the dark, so the best answer is the one that kind of makes them assume that WE haven't found out, either.

Am I being totally unrealistic here?

Gosh, I know I would never be able to keep it secret! But I think the best response when people ask "Do you know what it is?" is to smile and say "It's a surprise!" I think everyone would assume you mean you don't know and wouldn't ask further, yet you wouldn't be lying, either.

I agree, some kind of response about a surprise should give the impresion that you don't know either. If they continue questioning about why you don't want to know a simple reply about liking surprises and a subject change should be enough. We are not doing u/s and when most people ask, I just tell them it will be a surprsie and they leave it at that. Of course when I am tired of that question and am feeling sassy the respose to "What are you having?" is usually "A baby." You will also have to watch yourself in refering to baby as he or she. I could not keep it a secret good luck!

When they ask is it's a boy or a girl just say "yes, we think one or the other"!
