View Full Version : 2nd Trimester Swap (GET THOSE PACKAGES OUT SOON!!)

So here goes. This is the way it will work this time - if you have questions don't hesitate to ask since I am totally new at this! I took a lot of this from the December board. :wink

In this swap you will send one package out and receive one package from someone else. The limit for your package is $20 before shipping and delivery confirmation. You may put your package together using new or gently used excellent condition items. If you're not able to do the full $20 worth, then please, don't sweat it. We all want everyone to play!

To make sure that everyone gets a package that they love, please post your "In Search Of" or ISO list by Monday, Sept 26th. Make your list as long as possible with things that you want for your baby or for you or for the birth or whatnot. If you want something to only be new, make sure you say so. If you're open to hand made goodies (sometimes you get the most AMAZING handmade things here at MDC!!!!) then make sure you post it.

After all the ISO's are posted, you look through to find a person that you have or can buy $20 worth of items for. You will them PM me your choice(s) by Friday, September 30th or sooner. It's best if you find a few different people you could send to so that everyone will have a good chance of getting matched up.

As soon as I have all the picks, I will match people up with one another and post whom will be sending to whom. If someone is not picked at all, I'll post asking if someone could add them to their list of people to send to.

If you're from outside of the US, please say so in your post so that whoever picks you knows that shipping will be extra (or you can find someone from your own country to swap with).

You will have two weeks to get your package together and to write a nice note about your wishes/prayers/blessings about their upcoming birth/baby/entrance to motherhood and to ship to the person you were matched up with. Friday, Oct 14th is the deadline to ship. Make sure you get a delivery confirmation number with your US to US shipments and post that number to our thread for your matchee to see and track.

If you have any questions, please post them here! How does that all sound?

DEADLINE DATES TO KNOW
Monday, Sept 26th - for posting ISO's
Friday, September 30th- for PMing me your picks
Friday, October 14th - for pkg and note shipping with Delivery Confirmation (if US to US)

Quick ? -- Are the ISO items supposed to be for mama, for baby, for both?

Namaste, Tara
mama to Doodle (7), Butterfly (2), and Rythm (due at home 1/06)

OKay, I will be adding to this as I think of things, so please check back!

Baby Michael's "nursery" (which he will NOT be sleeping in :D) is Malawi from Babies R Us. it is light green with cute patchwork animals--giraffe, croc, hippo and elephant. Malawi is the country in Africa where DH was born, so we had to go with a commercialized product depicting his "homeland"! ;)
For Baby--

Sling or mei tai (used or homemade is fine!). I have a hotsling already, but wouldn't mind another flannel sling!
Baby bits soapy things for the wipes warmer. I don't want used ones! ;)
hats!!! handmade is FINE!!!! Stocking caps or knitted ones, or whatever. No wool, please: DH and I both have sensitivities (sp?) to wool. Ooh.. matching Mom,Dad and baby would be CUTE! :D (used okay)
baby outfits African animal prints is excellent! Used is okay
Christmas baby outfit I am specifically looking for a velvet vest outfit in deep burgundy/ maroon (more pink than burgundy).
Cute african animal-themed baby book-- The lazy one with everything printed out. I just have to fill in the blanks!

For Mom--
Mama tea I am getting 2 POUNDS of RRL tea, but I would like a small sample of tea with RRL, nettles, and all the fun stuff added ;).
2X nursing nightgown used is fine.

Breastfeeding books I have tons of pregnancy books; I would like to build my library of nursing books.
Nice homemade lotion, bath salts/ oils, something Vanilla/ or lavendar, please ;)
mama pads any type, style, etc. A variety is great!
-------------------------------------------------------
Can we make a "Willing to Give" list? I have some brand new items through my doula business that I would love to give:

photo album pink spine and back. Off white on cover with a "scrapbook" type square with bow and carriage that says "baby". This is an album with slots for two pictures on each page, and small margin for captions. Fits 120 photos.

photo album lavender spine and back with white cover. On cover is black and white photo of a silver rattle with lavender ribbon. The caption says: "They will forever hold a place in your heart." There is a very small amount of yellowing along the border. This is a binder type album, so it is refillable, if you can find the inserts. Each page holds one picture. it looks like there are about 50 pages ( didn't count all of them), so this album will hold 100 photos.

Yippie! Here we go! I will probably be adding to this list as I think of things cause I have preggo brain today! :wink

For baby (girl):

Hotsling in size 3 or 4 (would love a girly colored one :heartbeat ) absolutly used! These are so expensive, don't buy it new please.

Hats, would love knit ones! (no angora or wool please, as our family is allergic)

Any gently used girl outfits for sizes newborn, 0-3, and 3-6 months. I don't have much for outside clothes for this babe. (pants, cute outfits, long sleeved shirts, bunting, etc)

I would absolutly LOVE a knit, crocheted, or even quilted baby blanket that a mama from MDC made. My children have never had any grandparents, so I never got the knit things grammys sometimes make. I would cherish anything handmade for this babe! :love

Cloth wipes and used cloth diapers. Any style or kind! I'm not picky at all, and am just starting out CD so anything would be appreciated!

A wetbag of some sort. I don't have one yet, so I have no idea!

For Mama! (thats me :D ):

cloth Mama pads! (there is a celestial print that is SO NICE)

That wonderful book I keep hearing so much about, Adventures in Tandem Nursing. I plan to tandem, so this would be really nice to get! :D

Anything for my birth altar. Special crystals, stones, homeade incense, smudge sticks, herbs, candles, essential oils! etc.. anything at all that you think will help me through pregnancy and labor (and beyond!) My faith is Wiccan, so please keep that in mind when you choose things. ;)

Any young kids books or movies about new babies, breastfeeding, co-sleeping, etc.. especially geared for my youngest dd (26 months) who will be experiencing the most "change" in January! :thumb (we already have the Dora movie)

Just about everything here I will glady accept used! :throb

I'm in!

Here is my list of baby needs: http://www.geocities.com/eponine49/babyshowerlist

Used is fine! (Though anything other than the clothes I would like to be in excellent or like-new condition) Handmade is WONDERFUL! I especially treasure items that someone took the time to make especially for me or the baby. :)

Here is a focal point for my labor (I don't have the guts to put it on my registry list! :D) http://www.sacredsource.com/prodinfo.asp?number=SHE

I'm still looking for postpartum pads that don't have PUL in them. I'd prefer cute prints, but I don't care either way, really. :)

Edit: OMG! I have been looking for baby bags and kimono wraps like these everywhere! They don't have to be organic- or even new! But if you can find/have anything like this, I want! :) http://www.ecobaby.com/infantclothingkimonosteesbaggies.htm

Tara, post anything you need for yourself or the new baby or even for your other children. And Emily, my dd's playroom is decorated in that same theme. :LOL But not for any good reason like yours - in fact, I wish we were talented enough to handpaint something.

I'm not picky. I really love things made with love and I have no idea if we truly need anything, so I'm just doing this for fun really. This is my 3rd and I fully expect to get little or nothing from friends or family as it is, so this is something fun for us. I love to do things for people, whichis why this is fun for me :) I appreciate anything I'm given. We love music, nature...I love trees and the moon. I love journals and stationary. I'm humble, surprise me!

I hope we haven't missed anyone. Never having done this before I don't know if after I match everyone up if I should give out addresses or if I should let you all PM your addresses to the person who has you. How does it usually work? Anyone know? Thanks! I am still excited!

because
09-27-2005, 09:38 PM
I've never done it either, but I think I read something like it on another DDC. If I remember correctly, we PM you our real names and addresses when we send in our picks. Then, when you PM the assignments you send the info with it. That way, info is not on the site and it's all in one message. Would that work?

I wanted to add that I can send some RRL tea (1 sandwich bag) to anyone in the swap who PMs me. i wanted to add this separately, in case noone went back to my original post. :D

sunnylady303

I'm still waiting for one person's picks. As soon as as I have that I will post the matches pretty quickly. :D

sunnylady303
10-02-2005, 09:34 AM
I know we mentioned PMing the picks but I was looking at how other swaps work and it looks like usually they just post them and that's easier for me so I hope it's ok with everyone.

I managed to get everyone together. It was harder than I thought and with only 9 people - I don't know how swaps with dozens and dozens do it!Special thanks to the folks that were able to be flexible! I did my best to give people their top choices, but some people were requested MANY times...

Please, PM the person you are sending a pkg to for their address and any questions you might have about specifics of their list. Then, get your pkgs together and mail out (with a Delivery Confirmation if sending US/US) by Oct 14th (although I think we can be a little flexible on that - just let your person know if it will be a little late). Post your Delivery Confirmation # here on the board when you know it. THEN post a THANK YOU to your sender when you receive your gift. We love to hear what you got and how touched you were!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PM me right away if you notice a problem with the configuration!

So glad I'm not the only one not shipping yet!

Hollin, I will have your gift out soon!

My good friend had her twins at 33 weeks and also has a very sick 3 year old at home so I've been doing double duty helping her while she's been going to and from the NICU and haven't had time yet to finish what I'm making - soon, though! Hopefully this weekend.

Kristin! I got my package today and I was so excited to open it! The candle was gorgeous and smells SO GOOD! I've been sniffing it off and on all night. :innocent I can't wait to use it!! And I'm so touched that you included something so personal in my package. :happyt: Dh thought it was really sweet of you!

The clothes were so gorgeous and just perfect!! I especially love the eggplant colored dress from Lands End. Wicked cute!

Imagine my surprise at the bottom of the box, when I pulled out the book I've been lusting after.. Adventures in Tandem Nursing! Thank you SO MUCH! :love I haven't gotten any books this pregnancy at all due to lack of funds, and its been really super hard, because I love to read and absorb all I can. Now I have 327 pages to read!

Once again, thank you so much! I loved it, and it really made my day. :love

I got my package from Hollin today! It was 8 prefolds and a hat in a homemade bag. Oh yeah, and a Snappi and a pair of pins. Hollin, they're just wonderful! :D Did you make the hat and the bag? I'm so excited, it was like Christmas! :) I got home, and I have this doll my mom got me when my brother was born that's the size of an infant at birth, and I tried all the different folds I've been reading about. :)

AND, I sent out my package today, I don't know how long it'll take to get there... But it's out! :)

The clothes were all my daughter's and even though we're having another girl we seemed to have way too many and we somehow had two of those dresses. I'm glad the clothes found a good home and I am really, really glad that you liked the candle and the book! That makes me so happy. :D

Stargirl, you're package was shipped out this afternoon. I hope you enjoy!!!
(Sorry it was a bit late, I had something that I had not received yet, that I had to wait for)

EMILY, I LOVE my package! I was so thrilled with the awesome 2 sets of Mother of Eden Nursing Pads. I had only just discovered them when my son was close to weaning and I am beyond excited to receive these! The tea is YUMMY! I have never tried this kind(Mtn. Rose Herbs Red Raspberry Leaf Tea) and I would highly recommend it.
The flannel wipes....awesome! I can't believe this was your first sewing project. They came wonderful...wish I could sew!
The baby book and disposable camera is such a treat! I thought that was such a neat idea!
And last, but not least, the labor rock!!! LOVE it! You are so crafty...this mama made it wit polymer clay and a design of a birth godess! Can be used as a worry stone and rubbed during labor. I will have it very close by.

THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART, MAMA!

What thoughtful and sweet gifts, I am so excited. This made the upcoming delivery and arrival of our baby girl real.

(Both of my boys think the labor rock is the best! They each want one....I think we will make a craft day and go to the lake and find some of our own stones for them to decorate. What an awesome idea you've given me!)

Persephone-- Your package came today!!! Yay! When I picked it up from the post office, I could smell the lavender!!! That peaked my curiousity :D!

Mama, I do not know how you could pack so much goodness into a little package!!!! :D
My cats were very enthusiastic over the package, and I didn't understand why until I read that the box had catnip in it!!!!
-I will add the catnip and nettles to my RRL tea. Do you remember what catnip is good for? I just remember it is good.
-The sachet (which caused the box to smell so good!) will be going under my pillow tonight!
-Thanks so much for the cleansing grains and baby bath! my face (whole body) has been breaking out so bad!!! Hopefully this will help :D. I might need to ask you the recipe for the baby bath if he likes it as much as I think he will ;)
-Thanks for the flannel wipes. I did make some of my own, but these are bigger, and they look so pretty! Gifts are so much more special than something I made, YKWIM?
-I LOVELOVELOVE the hat!!! It is soooo cute!! And, you didn't know this, but it is EXACTLY the same colors as the baby afghan DH's grandma made for this babe! I put the hat on top of the afghan (which is fuzzy fabric) and it looks like they were made to go together!

Thanks so much mama!!!!

Persephone
10-20-2005, 03:40 PM
Heh, if you want, you can just sprinkle the catnip on the floor, and let the cats roll around in it. :) It's much more entertaining than drinking it as a tea. :D (My cats clawed through a carboard box and a double wrapped plastic bag to get to it when I first got it! (It's from mountainroseherbs.com)

I'm so glad you liked everything! :)

I also got my package from because today! Wow! Let me just say I am overwhelmed with everything! It is all so great! I got a great purple wetbag that will be perfect for toting around wet diapers in the diaper bag. I got some beautiful handmade MOE-style mama pads! They look perfect and I can't wait to give them a try. There was also a sweet little blue hat for my little one- sure to be nice and cozy for the Winter. She also made me a wonderful blue pouch-style sling! I tried it out with a doll (the same one that gets all my diaper practicing) and it fits perfectly! I can't wait to show it off to everyone when I'm carrying my little guy all around. Thank you so much! It was all so wonderful and I also loved the passage you included. Opening the package and exploring all the items was such a wonderful treat for me!

And just so you know, the pouch was weight-tested by me and my 31# toddler...

We had a Build-a-Bear bear that was a shower gift that got all of our diapering and sling practice before DD was born... the question is, after you diaper your dolls, do you pick them up and pat them on the back? And maybe hum a little lullaby? :bag:

I got a package from MamaTaraX last week! There was some RRL and Mother's Milk tea, which was such a coincidence because I had RRL on my shopping list for that exact day! Okay, I'm lame. I got my package two days ago and haven't posted. Stargirl, it was wonderful!! It totally made my day and my whole week. I cried looking at all the little baby things. These are the first things I've gotten for this baby. It made it so much more real. I can't believe you tie dyed those clothes yourself. They are adorable. And I love the mittens, and the hats!! We really needed those. The blanket is so soft and beautiful and the cd's are great. Especially the CD you made really touched me and we have listened to it several times already. Dear Willowrose,

Not to worry- I received it yesterday!!! It could not have arrived on a better day either. I woke up at 1:15 am Wednesday night and I couldn't go to sleep at all. Let's just say it was an incredibly long day at school. :nut Then I had a supper date with some girlfriends which was lovely, but my bed was calling to me. As I drove home, I stopped to pick up the mail, and there was your fantastic package!!! It absolutely made my day. My week in fact!!! It was all I could do to not speed all the way home.

Thank you so much for the lovely card- it was very touching. :heartbeat For the other girls reading this, Willowrose is an outstanding shopper!!! :bouncy This is what my wonderful package contained: 1 chinese prefold, 1 Fuzzi Bunz and 1 miracle blanket!!! I am sooooo excited to try them all out. My husband, who is an engineer, was very impressed with the technical details of the FuzziBunz. I can not wait to snuggle my little Edelweiss in that gorgeous Miracle Blanket. I only wonder if I can get one in my size. :wink

Willowrose, thank you so much for your kindness and your generosity. I absolutely adore my treats and I will think of you fondly each time I use one of the diapers or snuggle my precious baby in the blanket.

In friendship,
~Erin

MamaTaraX, your package shipped out Priority a few days ago so you should get it anytime!! I'm sorry it was so late. We had a lot of financial (and other) issues last month that made it pretty difficult. I do hope that you like your gifts though!! :innocent

I don't know how I missed this thread, but that IS an awesome match! It's so weird to see something I made in someone else's house, and on the internet! Lol! I'm so glad you like it! :)

ANA!!! I got your package!!!! I was just excited to get mail for a change, usually it's my DH getting parts for his bikes ;) Thankyou so much! I was going ot make a seperate post -- I Hope this doesn't get lost!

Ana sent me a sweet little book of quotes and writings about babies/being a family, absolutely fabulous (done by her family!) tie-dyed onesies, beautiful stationary (I love stationary!!), baby shampoo by Tom's of Maine (didn't even know they made it!), a little pillow filled with lavendar, some other good smelling sutff that now escapes my memory, and a quartz crystal, and the coupe de grace: chocolate! It's all very sweet and pretty and I love love love it! Thank-you Ana!

p.s. It's against my superstisiousness to get all giddy aboutbaby stuff, but darnit, those onesies are cute! They're too big fo r the newborn baby dolls I have otherwise they'd be wearing them right now ;)

Namaste, Tara

Oh I'm so glad you like them Tara!!!! :D :jumpers: Hopefully those onsies will be just the right size when it starts to get a bit warmer outside. And I give myself 5 stars for awesome restraint for not eating that chocolate before I sent it to you!! :wink

Yay!! Once again, I'm so sorry it was late.. but I'm glad it made it to you okay and that you enjoyed it! :thumb We all had so much fun tie dying those. And I have to admit, that tie dying project was the first time I had EVER tie dyed!! I can't believe I skipped that activity as a child. It was so fun! :lol
