i posted this in the I'm Pregnant forum but i wanted to ask you guys your advice.....
half the time i feel fine and half the time i feel like i'm nuts.
i have a huge issue with mood swings and almost irrational emotions at times anyways, but this pregnancy is definitely intensifying that. is there anything safe and natural that i can take that will be GOOD for my body and my moods? flapjack you mentioned evening primrose oil. what does that do?
i really could use some help.

Good grief do I need this thread! Even if only to know I'm not the only one who's moody and irrational. My dh is driving me nuts, but I think it's b/c I'm nuts! I had another tantrum at lunch b/c he was trying to take a bowl away from me to put it in the dishwasher (really, though, he wasn't being very nice about it).
I feel like I'm only steps away from a breakdown. In fact, I considered ditching all my homebirth plans and moving in with my mother after the lunch episode. I know I'm hormonal, I know there should be allowances made for that, but geesh, this is getting out of hand.

Hi all - I totally sympathise  I had PG blues early in both PGs, although not consistent mood swings.
My little cure-all (other than chocolate :wink ) is a good quality Omega 3/6 oil. It's proven to help with PPD and also can affect your mood for the better.

You brain is leached of it is PG and BFing to feed the baby - a PG/BFing woman's brain actually shrinks if it doesn't have enough Omegas.
I take Nutrasea liquid supplement - it tastes like light, lemon gourmet oil - NOT fishy (I'd gag).

I give it to DH and DD as well - a tsp a day. You can also get vegetarian flax Omegas from Udo's Oil. There are lots of natural sources as well (fish, certain nuts, egg yolks, etc.) but I consider this megadosing for me.
HTH!!

thanks so much for the links!!! i should check wild oats and whole foods and see what they carry. is it terribly pricey?
Me, too! Me, too! It's so nice to know I'm not the only one basically losing it almost every day now. I already have a short temper, and wow, third trimester I blow up over everything. That and feeling depressed. It's exhausting. I will try the Omega oil!

depending on how much it runs- since we're so perpetually broke these days, i'm going to try it too. anyone else who tries it for this reason, please do post back here and tell me how it works for you! :)

I hope it helps  EPO is also a great source, but I know that an animal source is more concentrated.
I pay about 17$ Cdn a bottle - that's, what, $12 USD? The shelf life is 6 weeks, refrigerated. We've never finished a bottle yet (all 3 of us). Many natural food stores here have it but I call around and ask first. There are other brands - Nordic Naturals, etc. but to me I can taste fish and it does NOT go well with being PG. This is really the only one that has no fishy smell, no fishy taste.
There really are fine natural sources, including wild salmon (not a fan of farmed stuff...) and various nuts, flax oil, etc. You just have to be consistent. If mood swings/PPD really is an issue, maybe consider investing in a bottle of oil?
Email the distributor to see where they have it locally.
